Singapore Airlines is launching the world's new longest flight: WSSS-KEWR direct, over 9,500 miles and 19 hours of flight time. And, here's the real kicker: there's no economy class. In order to help save fuel and cover fuel costs, the A350-900 ULR aircraft used on the route will be configured only with Premium and Business class seating, for a total of 161 seats. Here's a seat map of the plane: More info here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/advice/new-worlds-longest-flight-singapore-new-york-newark/

Just interested in whether anyone is flying a sim hurricane hunter with live weather from any of the sim based weather engines, and if so, what was your experience? Screenshots?

Came across some video of a fly-over and it's going to be a while before things get back. The Panama city airport is nearby and probably isn't any better off. https://youtu.be/plUGQqJROJI scott s. .

In case no one has heard yet, this was probably expected - https://www.foxnews.com/us/entire-f-35-stealth-fighter-jet-fleet-grounded-by-military-after-crash-in-september. Personally, I can see why it was grounded. In P3D, for me, this is probably one of the most difficult fighter jets to land!

With Hurricane Michael hitting Florida I wonder what winds fellow simmers might have experienced. I have been in Tornadoes, I am not including them as my highest winds because I do not know what the winds were, they were localized and horrific and caused us some property damage, and in three cases almost cost us our lives, such as when one came out of nowhere when my Dad and I were golfing near Napa, California, where there are hardly ever any Tornadoes. We were trapped outside and my Dad said the small Tornado's funnel went right over me. Fortunately it had not hit the tree or buildings on the course yet, unlike Dorothy being sucked up into the skies in the funnel I w…

Interesting video, and another example of ordinary pilots showing extraordinary decision making. Reminds me of the United DC10 crash (Flight 232) into Sioux City Iowa. John

My favorite month of the year! The Blue Angles are in town! I caught a picture of one flying over! All puns intended.

Nice story, although it is funny how the media uses stock photos of aircraft, since the interior of the aircraft and pax does not match the external aircraft pic.... https://www.sunnyskyz.com/good-news/3033/Pilot-Keeps-Promise-And-Takes-All-Elderly-Villagers-On-Their-First-Flight

Whenever anyone finds out I am retired military they always say, "Thank you for you service." Sometimes it's a bit embarrassing and for we Vietnam vets about 45 years too late. That aside; this afternoon I went to the supermarket and a fireman was in behind me in the checkout line. I turned around and said, "Thank you for your service." He was a bit taken aback but smiled and said, "Thank you." I mentioned being retired military I get it a lot and I though fireman and cops deserved it too. Maybe I can start something here. Noel

My great uncle, Frank Morgan, was a Pilot Officer for the RCAF in WW2. I'm trying to nail down the models of planes he flew, and which squadron he was in. He died in a Wellington returning from a raid on Tobruk on July 13, 1942. Their fuel tanks were shot up during the (successful) raid, and the plane was blown off course by adverse weather. He ordered the crew to bail out, but insisted on staying with the plane to try to bring it down safely. The plane crashed north of Cairo, and he did the next day in #13 Scottish General Hospital. He'd been shot down once before. On October 20, 1941, his memoirs say the crew he was on had just dropped a 4,000-pound bomb on Br…

I saw and responded to the online flying poll (I do not choose to fly online). But I remember when light sport was ramping up and I was shopping instructors, one with a Zenair heavily used MSFS and Vatsim for training his students for flight around controlled airspace. I used to set up free flight online flying sessions in MSFS of old with me and a buddy of mine, he downloaded my ultralight trike here at Avsim and we'd fly thru the canyons of Arizona, or along city fronts together. But his budget no longer included a sim capable computer while I continued in the hobby. We both took real world lessons but I had more time built up, almost fifteen hours by the time I qui…

Betty came home from the doctor's office yesterday with a magazine that had an article titled '100 is the new 80' alluding to the fact that there are over 75,000 Americans 100 years old or older. That compares to 80years old just a few decades ago. As a life member of The Air Force Association I get Air Force Magazine every month. The General Electric ad on the back really struck me. TIMELESS WARRIOR Time to re-engine Battle tested during more than 60 years of service, the B-52 fleet has earned a re-engining to sustain it's service well into the future. This critical mission needs the company that can deliver proven performance and flawless syst…

Jim Young Forums Administrator Posted 21 hours ago Sorry to throw water on the party but the Hangar Chat should be aviation related, real world or simulator, that will not fit in other forums. Topic locked. Hangar Chat This forum is for the discussion of real world aviation topics and "any other topics not covered in other forums." Isn't humor "any other topic" ? Sue

For those of you who are curious about the bits are on an airliner that you don't normally get to see and what all your virtual GSx ramp agents are doing, here are some pics, with an explanation of what they are... First a pic from inside the rear cargo hold of a Thomas Cook A321, which looks to me like it was on Stand 28 of C Pier at EGCC, you can see the remote stands in the distance with the cargo facility behind what looks like a TUI Boeing 757, To the rear of the door frame entrance you can see a shiny triangular access panel, behind which are the radar altimeter avionics. Here's some additional things to notice if you've never been in the hold of an aeropl…

Hi all, here is a question I have since I want to enter some calculations into my virtual flight planning. What is the unit used for jet fuel prices? I checked out the current Jet A price at KSFO and it says it's $8.38. But per what? Gallon, Liter, Kilogram?
