The reason I love Avsim the most is I have been tipped off to some wonderful freeware and payware, staying out of forums would deny me the gift of information they provide, given the brave members who try the payware first especially. Just today I read about a Navion for Xplane11, a free one which I believe was formerly payware, and the most beautiful Navion I've seen in any sim. I have always loved the lines of the Navion which looks contemporary 50 years after it was created, just one example of a fine aircraft. I would have never known about the payware Aerobask Eclipse for Xplane11 without these forums. Or the Alabeo DA42 for FSX and P3DV4, one of my favorite pist…

When I lost my old system last year I lost a lot of software I had purchased. I had four sims, with my new system and Xplane11 added, I have five: P3DV4 Xplane11 Wings of Prey No Limits Coaster Sim 2 TrainSim 2019 Thanks to Steam, I was able to resurrect Trainsim and Wings of Prey over the past couple of days. Although I am not big on shoot 'em ups, I felt Wings of Prey was the best arcade style sim remembering WWII, and I especially love to fly the Battle of Britain sorties, I can only imagine how adrenaline must have kicked in for those protecting the United Kingdom in those days, as well as the poor Axis pilots forced to fly missions the…

Hello all, I have previously, mentally renamed this site to AirAlmostDailyX news, but recently I feel this should be upgraded to AirAlmostWeeklyX news. Has anybody got any idea about what is going on over at that site. It used to be (for me) a compulsory daily visit but I rarely bother now ... Maybe once a week and it very rarely has anything not previously covered by FSelite News, when I do bother. Despite my, perhaps ribald, comments, I do actually miss them and hope they can make a comback. Regards Tony

We also must remember those who fought on the ground on both sides. This is a moving piece to remember on Veterans Day. I have been in Cologne several times, probably walked right over where this scene happened, most recently last year on a month long tour of Europe. I too go to Germany to reflect on a former enemy, now a friend. John https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/10/us/ww2-reunion-us-german-veterans/index.html

  13. This past week has been the culmination of something that seems very specific to flight sim, which is that addon makers are apparently bent on trying to argue and fight against their customers for every question/remark/feedback given to them. Is it so hard for ORBX to not start arguing with a known youtuber in his comment section to try and prove some sort of point? Is it so hard for PMDG to answer regular questions or remarks without making essays on how said remark was stupid/rude/irrelevant? Is it so hard for FSDT to accept their software might sometimes be at fault without going at war with the person reporting it? Is it so hard for FSLabs to n…

I just learned of this since I am still an LSA licensed student pilot. It would be a great help to us if it comes to fruition, especially if the FAA grandfathers older aircraft that fall within the new weight limit, like a Cessna 152 if they raise it that high. The biggest problem with LSA's is even with the two occupant restriction, useful load can be exceeded with only a bit a fuel aboard, making the flight dangerous in many ways. LSA prices were driven high because so few aircraft in the used market could qualify for it--the Luscombe and Ercoupe, and neither had a good useful load, having low gross weights. The only alternative was to pay $100-200K for a market tha…

I've been a bit obsessed with weight lately when I was reading up in relation to a recent (and very enjoyable) trip I took with REX airlines in a SAAB 340B. The airline (fantastic pilots and flight attendants btw) were very proud of their bespoke "flight bag" which amongst other things claims a fuel saving due to reduced weight. But the sort of weight saving we are talking about here wouldn't even register on the fuel gauge of my tiny Kia Picanto car, let alone a 12 tonne aircraft with 2,400 kw of turboprop power. Yes, I know planes and cars do not translate for very obvious reasons and that aircraft have great sensitivity where a car does not, but still - it amazes me as…

  18. We all use our civilian sims for different and good reasons. Some use all sims available. One sim is not better or worse, they all have merits - what is important, is what makes the simulator work for you. I have run a simple poll before about which sims we use, but this is a more expanded poll about your views based on what we currently know and where we see the future for our sims of choice. We are an interesting community with sometimes, polarised views on this issue. What is your current stance on sim choice? This isn't reason for a bun fight, nor is it an invite to start one.

My 1TB SSD is getting close to maximum capacity. I am not installing Netherlands because it would reduce the free space required for the computer's operation. I went to my local computer shop where my tech and guru who built the computer I am using now works. Two summers ago I ordered the parts as I could afford them (CPU, Motherboard, SSD, memory chips and video card.) He got the case and liquid cooling system and whatever else was required. I want Windows 7 installed so I can install FS2004 (for CalClassics propliners and 1960s scenery) as well as my old MSTS train simulator along with P3Dv4 and all my Orbx scenery. He suggested a dual boot system leav…

I'm re-learning everything since being out of the loop for awhile and have forgotten a lot. As for navigation and the autopilot...I think I understand the nav/gps switch...with autopilot engaged and switch on nav mode the autopilot will follow whatever VOR is tuned in and when switched to gps it follows the flightplan. So what happens if the flightplan is all VORs...if switched to nav mode will the autopilot follow the flightplan completely or would I need to have it in gps mode? Another thing is how is navigation done these days since they're going to phase out VORs? I've heard about gps waypoints and I guess using fixes too. This brings up another thing...I can't really…

Just wondering about frame rates in general. I've got my settings close to where I want them and get about 50 fps on most runways and general size cities. Bring in bad weather and it drops to in the 30s fps. My real concern is if I'm in a big city like Chicago with bad weather which knocks it down to the low 20s and wondered if that's in the zone or not. I'm ok with it but at the same time I'd like to be within the recommended fps. I don't fly in big city areas all the time but I do like flying to them using real weather. I usually fly general aviation aircraft and would like to hear some opinions on flying and occasional low fps....I don't want to push and stress the com…

This sounds like an unfortunate mess, but that's always the danger of investment into this industry. Having gone thru "investors" (aka sponsors) when I was auto racing there is a lot of promise and a lot of nothing delivered or in most cases the funding promises turn into "product discount" ... only to find the product is unproven and usually fails at my expense (aka destroys a motor). I've had auto racing friends that "joined" force with a larger team owner Lou Gillotti in the hope of more funding ... turned out the joining of forces was so that Lou could bleed them of money and further his own race team. When it comes to money it's dog eat dog in the racing worl…
