Pity the UK discontinued hovercraft service. I went from Dover to Calais and back last year in a much larger ship/ferry, biggest vehicle I have ever been driven on in my entire life, It was indeed exciting, even if it was not a hovercraft and took around two hours for the Channel crossing each way. I enjoyed seeing the white Cliffs of Dover, very similar to the cliffs at Pt. Reyes national seashore I went to with my college earth science class back in 1980. The geology was impressive to see, on the Hawaii side of the North American plate, just to the west of the San Andreas fault that gave us our big 1989 earthquake in California during our Bay Bridge world series. …

There are so many choices for US airports scenery. I have FlyTampa , FSDT, Flightbeam and Drzewesky Seattle Airports. I want to add Atlanta, Charlotte, Ohare and Las Vegas I know KLAS will be out soon by FlyTampa., Charlotte is offered by FSDT and ImagineSim - I don't have any ImagineSim airports. How do they rate? I also see Drzew.... is doing Ohare and Chicago. Is that the best choice for Ohare? Is there a clear pecking order in terms of quality of these players?

In case, anyone missed the post on the FSUIPC official forum: https://forum.simflight.com/topic/86409-run-program-in-profiles/?do=findComment&comment=523758 His son John will take over the development of FSUIPC, so there should be a seamless transition.

You're probably reading my title and wondering what in the world I'm talking about, so bear with me and let me explain. After years of flying FSX, DCS, and X-Plane I did my first two VATSIM flights ever today in the CRJ-700 and it was AWESOME (and terrifying!) Now, let me explain. Just a little background, I grew up in Texas and live in rural upstate New York so talking slow with a little drawl is something I'm very used to. And I realized today that I have a hard time understanding ATC and other aircraft just because of how fast they speak! It's like a whole new language to me, I know that in aviation they speak quickly and it's necessary but any advice for how…

Clearing up the weather https://s2maps.eu/ Endless sunshine, eternal summer - the Sentinel-2 cloudless layer combines over 80 trillion pixels collected during differing weather conditions between May 2016 and April 2017, and merges them into a sunny homogeneous mosaic, (almost) free from atmospheric impacts. Our thanks go to the European Commission and the European Space Agency for the free, full, and open Sentinel-2 data. Small team, big results Almost 250 Terabyte of Sentinel-2 data were crunched fully automated pixel by pixel using EOX homebrewn software combined by Joachim Ungar and Stephan Meißl with further Open Source tools. Supported by the processi…

No, I'm not giving up P3Dv4. I love it! And two or three times a week I take my Quest Kodiak out for a stroll somewhere in the Orbx world. But the lack of military aviation, aircraft and military AI, for P3D leaves an empty spot in my flight simming world. As a retired Air Force member having worked on or been around everything from F-86s and B-57s to F-4s and F-105s I want the chance to fly them too. So I opened the bottom drawer of my desk and dusted off and installed FS9 which will be the platform for all the wonderful military AI and military air bases available at MAIW. I assume that eventually military aviation will catch up with P3D (in additio…

Good day. I was wondering whether there would be future consideration to run FS Expo's outside of the routine countries (USA, UK, etc) and to maybe host one year in the southern Africa area? We in South Africa have a first world conference center in Cape Town (CTICC) with beautiful views and venues in the area and the exchange rate is very favorable. And we have a large flight sim community in South Africa. Just a thought. It would be great to see all the great developers here (I believe PMDG have South Africans on their team). Regards.

I got to see two of these aircraft up close and personal at Bradley International airport in 1980. I was asked to work at their air museum one night, which was damaged in the Windsor Locks Tornado. The museum had free access out to the tarmac and the runways. Before seeing the A-10 I and my two female hosts went out close to the runway and saw a 747 take off right over our heads, the roar was amazing and it was no more than 100 feet above us. Airport security checked us out but cleared us since we were with the museum. It was a great night, I enjoyed it immensely, it was the night before I flew home from JFK back to SFO. I was staying near Hartford with the two wome…

Well for over a year now I have had a moratorium on buying addons and I have stuck to it rigidly. I wasn't happy with my sim setup because of the fact that I was getting blurries in P3D V4.3 with Unlimited frames. Anyway, I decided to give X-plane 11 another go when I saw it on sale on Steam and promised myself I wouldn't purchase any addons. Much to my surprise with only freeware in had a fantastic time with X-Plane 11. I figured I get back into the saddle with P3D once there was a viable VR option. Now I know that "viable VR option" is a subjective statement but that came along for me with the arrival of the Samsung Odyssey+ for CAD$449. We are all in a position t…

I bought myself two add ons as a late holiday present to myself, both aircraft add-ons for Xplane11--one the MDLC Mig 15/17 and the other the Alabeo 177 for Xplane, which will replace their default 172 as my go to aircraft for short hops, like my breakdown cruise from Hayward to Reno today. I may buy something for P3DV4 too tomorrow (so my debit card company does not freak out seeing three online purchases today). I love buying add-ons to invest in our hobby. All of us here in one way or another have worked to keep it alive since the 80's (or for the younger ones, the 90's or this century). What our hobby has also done is bring simple folk like me behind the panel…

Heathrow Airport was closed down for a few hours last night because of a drone flying on the approach. Apparently there was a police helicopter trying to locate the operator, but I don't know how that ended. Because of the closure, Gatwick got a lot of diversionary traffic to the point where it could not take any more flights, and then they started coming up to us at Manchester and to a few other airports, forcing us to deal with some flights we were not expecting as well as causing us to tow off some aircraft from the stands on pier C to make way for other potential diversionary traffic. Then of course the passengers had to be catered for, transported by buses etc. So th…

I use FSUIPC5 to set my controllers and I've never had any problem with the MD80 until recently. My Elevator is set correctly in FSUIPC5 and is moving the yoke in the VC correctly. Now, when I'm taking-off and I pull back on the yoke to rotate, I can see the yoke in the virtual cockpit pull back equal to my hardware yoke, but it has no effect on the aircraft. The aircraft is trimmed correctly, yet it does not leave the runway unless I start trimming up. Once in the air, the nose just goes down like there is no control until the aircraft is heading straight for the ground. The elevator trim works and will bring the nose of the aircraft back up, but then it star…

Elite Dangerous (2014), the popular (and VR supported) sci-fi space-faring simulator, has seen the launch of the Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter 4 update, the final chapter of the game’s third season of DLC. Elite Dangerous: Beyond first landed early this year with Chapter One, which directly followed the Thargoids (the space-faring alien baddies first introduced back in September 2017 with the Horizons update) assault on humanity’s starports. Beyond then saw two smaller rapid-fire chapter releases this summer, Chapters Two and Three, which included new ship types, weapons, and a number of system improvements. Chapter 4, available now, is the “largest Elite Da…
