I as a small boy would see things about the future, like the Jetsons, Star Trek, or Lost in Space. I'm halfway thru my life I suspect, and at mid point I realize I am living in the future they showed me when I was a boy....

Long before the Internet there was shortwave I had a SSB capable shortwave receiver and with a 50 foot antenna clipped to my whip antenna, I could pull in clearly Oceanic air traffic over the Atlantic, Pacific and Caribbean. My longest captures were more than 5000 miles distant from Napa, where I first used Shortwave. I found this link after an hour of searching, a very powerful web based Shortwave radio which has more functionality than the cheaper radios, including a graph that allows you to hone in on Shortwave broadcasts. The learning curve is only about twenty minutes or so. For fun one should try tuning the Oceanic air frequencies and using the lower or upper s…

  5. This is a remarkable commemmoration of an event 75 years ago today. A US Air Force WW2 aircraft narrowly avoided killing children when it crashed in Sheffield, England on 22 Feb 1944 killing all on board. Mr Foulds tended the memorial all his life and was rewarded this morning when the USAF and RAF performed a fly-by over the spot. What a great tribute to both Mr Foulds and the brave crew. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-47323045

Does limiting the framerate to 20 or 30FPS improve performance? Some people set the slider to 30 while others set it to max. Why? What advantage is there to limiting it? And if there is none why have a slider at all? Noel

Hi. I've just installed the new Flight1 2.09 version of their GTN 750, which brings the software up to Garmin 6.50.1. The main feature being the integrated VNAV facility. I've only had one flight so far and it did seem to perform very well with a straightforward descent from FL240 to 3000ft. I'm just hoping they can come out with similar solution to use, and integrate, the GS 600 Txi. Check out AirWagner on YouTube

Hi, I have the blackbox a340-600 in p3dv4,but let's be honest, the sounds are horrible. I know Turbine sound studios has a wonderful sound set,but I was wondering if there is a freeware option for the trent 500. I spent 45 min on the web,and I found free sounds for every other jet engine EXCEPT for the trent 500. So I was wondering if anyone knows and could direct me to free trent 500 sounds I could use. Thanks James

Ive read the new version v4.4 improvements and features printed in p3d site, a two page list. The big list of issues address 95% of "military" aspects of the simulation. Weapons, tracking missiles, drones, armoured vehicles, multiplayer for military training pourposes, etc. You can feel how much work programmers have spent time in this new version, but I can only imagine them as being soldiers or officers engaged in developping a "war sim" While I understand Lockheed Martin has gone into an all-military production since the Tristar 1011, the sim P3D which is a continuation of Microsoft FSX and luckily Lockheed Martin decided to take it forward, the sim serves a …

If like me you remember sat waiting for your Commodore 64 to load up sublogic flight simulator 2 off a cassette tape this place will be sacred ground, and amazing news. FLYT simulations is working on KCMI Champaign-Urbana. The hours I spent as a teenager flying out of here with its white wire framed runways and taxiways on a simple green background. Circuits,ILS and VOR approaches flown one after the other all day during school holidays all by using the keyboard for control. Coming for both P3D and x-plane ! Ever since orbx did Meigs I was hoping someone would do KCMI. I’m delighted by this announcement http://www.flyt.com.br/dev-insider/wi…

So about a year ago I started a project called New Skies it was supposed to be a open world flight simulator but I stoped December 2017 because well you can’t really make something like that on your own But recently I was talking to a friend about it who knew someone that might be able to support the project if I was to revive it I said sure so after starting the project again I started getting a lot of support around my community so now things have changed in 2020 (most likely) we plan to release a new open world flight simulator called New Skies with the hope of having the best aircraft physics and graphics possible! It will include a global idea of airports from small …

  14. Just saw the news video about the Cessna Twin that seems to explode in mid air and crash in to a California housing area killing 5 people yesterday. The view that I saw looked much like the plane had explosives or something go off as it was coming out of the sky. I don't recall ever hearing of anything like fuel tanks exploding in the air on a small plane like this. I guess parts of the plane are spread over a 4 block area. Just wondering what you guys think? The only info they had was that it had just departed a near by airport and thunderstorms in the area.

As some of you may or may not be aware, AVSIM competes in an annual race around the world using Microsoft's Platform for Flight Simulation (includes Prepar3D). This event has been ongoing since 2003. Its an exciting event consisting of 2 sometimes 3 teams trying to fly around the world as fast as possible given a ruleset which can vary from year to year (to make things interesting). In recent years however interest in the event has dwindled, we have a team of about 10 members, mostly north americans at the moment but we have had a team as high as 20+ members. My question to all of you is would this be an event that would pique your interest? Basically the teams…

Another sad day for British aviation with the collapse of BMI Regional Airlines today. This airline was all that was left of the once thriving British Midland Airlines, based at East Midlands Airport, with a history dating back to 1938 when it was founded as Derby Airways. The company said that it had been “ badly affected by rises in fuel and carbon costs and uncertainty over Brexit”. It operates a fleet of around 17 ERJs with some of the aircraft being operated under contract on Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines routes to Bristol. Bill

I'm asking this question here because I've been banned from the Orbx fourm. I can read the posts but I can't post or respond to anything. The wages of a sin and all that. I see a new North American airport has been released for Sun Valley Idaho. But it's only for P3Dv4. I have P3Dv4 installed but I also have P3Dv3 installed because of the vast collection of FSX and even FS2004 aircraft that work in the Orbx worlds of FSX and P3Dv3 but won't even show up in P3Dv4. One of my favorites is the PMDG Beech B1900CandD for FS2004. I fly it from time to time inP3Dv3. It would be a shame if all the new Orbx releases are only going to be for post FSX-P3Dv3 sims. …

Flying and a love of mathematics goes hand in hand, given the old days before gps's we used maps and slide rules to help with our navigation, then came the pocket calculator, and then the aviation calculator, and so on. I found this website and it is rather cool--wish I had one of these websites in grammar school, high school and college since I first started learning Algebra in the sixth grade, in an advanced math course.... https://www.mathpapa.com/algebra-calculator.html

Happy to see the flight landed safely - Delta Emergency. Caused by heavy turbulence over California. I heard the winds in California were going to be well in the 100's (via Accuweather but cannot find this information on the web; there are warnings but 70 mph winds are the highest). Still it may explain why I suddenly had warnings of overspeed when flying the CS757 from KLAX to KSFO yesterday with ASP4. At first I thought I had done something wrong but obviously got a huge tail wind pushing me forward even faster. Landed safely at KSFO...
