A question for anyone familiar with real-world operations of the lovely tri-holer freighter. If an MD-11 had to be flown to an MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul) facility, then would there be a specific pallet of ballast added so that she could fly empty? Would this be subject to a whole load of variables such as range and fuel quantity required? I would think that if possible, some cargo of some sort (for the destination) would be loaded to maybe generate some revenue on the flight. Thanks.

My thoughts and prayers to all of the residents and our members living in the Bahamas. Hurricane Dorian left them no mercy. The devastation is totally unbelievable and we will be seeing more as Dorian finishes its path of destruction.

Good morning I wanted to share an opinion and check if i was wrong or right. I tried both sims and I cannot get 100% satisfied with neither of them. Nevertheless, I might miss something. I will just detail what for me is missing so people who knows can comment: I am missing in P3D : - Global ortho cover. In X plane there are 2 files allowing a Earth zoom 13 cover -Sloped runways -Engine haze exhaust -Free Live traffic (X plane has got a free plugin) -Aiport Life I am missing ijn X plane - Decent 3D cockpit freeware planes for long haul trip - Good engine sounds (I am quite amazed that the engines sounds are so bad) …

Although I am still active on the web, I am going to enter home hospice care and I cannot post anymore due to nephropathy and literally a panic attack I had yesterday when I stopped breathing, however my therapy pet woke me so I could put on my oxygen.. I wanted to share this email I received from Flight One, it is not of concern for me since any accounts I have used there are long since inactive, but they were a good company while they lasted. I do not know whether this post is a spam attack or true, so I wanted to advise the forums of what I received in case you receive one and follow their advice, if some asks you to confirm your commercial vendor relationships or Av…

Hello AVSIM members, If you ever heard and ever thought of buying Virtual Pilot 3D, Do not. Virtual Pilot 3D is a scam similar to 'Pro Flight Simulator' (see Travelling_Wilbury's scam alert for pro flight simulator). It is actually the open source, free FlightGear that you are buying. Furthermore I have never heard of Virtual Pilot 3D before. Moreover, it shares the same motto as ProFlightSimulator, Which is ' It's the next best thing being up there'. Link: http://virtualpilot3d.com Where I heard it was scam: http://c-aviation.net/flight-simulator-2017-scam-alert/ Therefore do not buy this software. You can also see some other scam sites in …

I know this is silly but hear me out... If you would have an air charter company flying PC12's etc in California you would normally fly into KSMO/KHHR and even into LAX in some cases. In the simulator world, my computer can't handle that area and I don't want to shut off all the graphics when I fly in and out of there. But at the same time, I'm trying to keep this realistic. The only way I know would be to "assign" those flights going into those airports (KLAX, KSMO, KHHR, etc.) to "other pilots." Can you think of any other "stories" to come up with that a charter pilot wouldn't fly into those areas? Could you be assigned say the "outer skirts" a…

Has anyone had any experience with ELITE XTS Simulator? Does it offer anything realism wise that is missing from X-plane and P3D? What I do like about it though is the crisp 2d cockpit graphic. Do you think this sim is worth checking out?

If one should try to estimate the total market value of the most popular flight simulator for PC and their addons, do we reach 1 Billion USD? The most popular flight simulators are FS2004, FSX, P3D, XP11, AF2, DCS, and IL-2. How big is the market value of the addons? If the total market value is 1 Billion USD, I guess that the addons count for 700 Million USD. That is 70% of the total value. I guess that a company (not a one man developer activity) must do some market estimations before starting up in this business. So what are the values? Like to hear your comments and figures.

Hey everyone, so I had a question I had been waiting to ask just never knew when. But the question is, when flying VFR or IFR. How does a pilot know when he or she enters controlled airspace, of course I'm taking the unrealistic route by using Little Navmap. But I would love to know how they know if they're in controlled airspace in the real world. Thanks, ~Taylor

Been trying to make some decent videos of the guys in our Flightsim group multiplayer events , to have an interesting recap of the flight that is not boring and uninteresting. To capture takeoffs and landings etc from different angles and edit them with cut shots, angles etc and if possible have shots from inside the cockpit as they are flying. Can anyone suggest what hardware and software I would need and give advice... Is the xbox controller useful in panning zooming and generally controlling the views ? I don't want to spend much on equipment, just yet. Thanks for your help... PS- I already have Ezdok3 and TrackIR

Well, I passed! While there are some differences in the way the short bus flies compared to the 330, thankfully it wasn't as drastic as going from the Boeing to the Airbus like I did 10 years ago! I'm home after a 3 day IOE trip, and excited to hold a line with international trips next month, plus 16 days off! I'll be around, and happy to answer any Airbus questions, or international (Atlantic) questions anyone may have. Cheers, -B

Of special interest to me is that, while upgraded to a more modern glass EFIS, and dual FMS, the venerable SP-77 autopilot is still installed! Both the pilot and the FO stated that they enjoy hand flying their aircraft! This video was just posted a week ago, so it's a fresh look!

I don't know how many of you watch the Smithsonian Channel's series "Air Disasters." But the season premiere is Sunday, September 8th, at 8PM ET. If you frequent this forum, then you should love this program, which is a high-budget, science-based dissection of precisely what caused various aircraft accidents, both recent and historical. Each week focuses on a different tragedy. The show is of high production value and, in my view, is absolutely riveting. You might give the show a chance if you've never seen it before. This week's episode is called "Deadly Descent." https://www.smithsonianchannel.com/shows/air-disasters/deadly-descent/802/3474732
