So I know what the difference is between the categories, but there’s some stuff I’m in the dark about. 1. Does ATC have to clear you for a CAT I or II approach, or is that solely a decision the pilots must make based on their capabilities? 2. If the weather conditions call for a CAT II, could the pilots just go ahead and execute a CAT III approach just in case the clouds are lower than reported?

My heart goes out to all involved. This is truely the most mysterious aviation event in modern times. Out of 230+ people no one called home if there was a problem on the plane which flew far longer than first realized. In contrast passengers from the 9/11 flights called relatives. The captain was an avid simmer on his off time who loved aviation, truly bizzar to say the least...

Saw this on the news today that occurred on a flight to Basel. Fortunately the FA or anyone else was not seriously hurt. Never seen anyone, much less an FA and her beverage cart bouncy of the ceiling.

I am a creature of natural light, the more brightly lit my sim environment is, the happier I am. My lighting needs evolved into a dream I did not think could be possibly realized. I need light for simming because I have an odd neurological vision challenge when indoors, with dim light I get disoriented and can fall. I first used incandescent lights, you know, the Thomas Edison types. They were so hot I could actually light a match by holding it an inch above the bulb's surface, my brothers and I would play that game and like Tom Hanks in Castaway we would say "whoooahh, I have made fire!" But we were not memorized by it, fire just reminded us of the flights we'd take…

It's all explained on the FSDT and FlightSimLabs forums. https://forums.flightsimlabs.com/index.php?/topic/22002-17-june-2019-news-update/ http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,21029.0.html But basically, Esellerate will shutdown on September 30th 2019 and FlightSimLabs will move to "FastSpring" and customers will receive new order IDs and serials on June 30th 2019. (new orders will be using FastSpring on June 30th and Esellerate officially discontinues on September 30th 2019.) As for FSDT, they will use another DigitalRiver service called "Share-it" so existing users will not be affected.

Hello everyone, I'm keen to hear how you have used desktop flight sims to complement and positively help you with your ab initio (pre-navs) stages of flying training in the real world? I am currently undertaking real world flying training on a Cessna 162, and am up to the early stages of circuits. To nail down the procedures on a circuit, I am trying to get on the sim at least once a day to do a few rounds with the A2A C172 (closest accurate ACFT I can find for P3D to my training C162). However, I start to suspect that overtraining on a C172 on a Sim may result in some bad habits or wrong type of muscle memory for when I fly the C162 IRL, which negatively impa…

Jet2 are leasing A320, A321 and an A330, most if not all from Smart Lynx. I have recently been on the Smart Lynx A320 from EGNM to LIPX and I was wondering what call sign they used. Would it be the Jet2 callsign, Channex or the Smart Lynx callsign which I've several including Smart Lynx and Tallin Cat. Does the insignia of the aircraft have any bearing on this, the outbound flight the A320 was in full Smart Lynx colours (ES-SAM) while the return flight the aircraft was plain white (ES-SAQ). Thanks Phil

I've been fighting this for years with my Quest Kodiaks from FSX through P3Dv4. I finally reverted to startup scenarios with the engine already running. But I think I found a solution to the startup problem. Not perfect, but so far it works. Set your parking brake on. Advance the throttle about a quarter of the way up. Set the fuel conditioner to off. Turn on the starter and as soon as NG gets to about 5 or 6 slowly advance the fuel conditioner until you see the puff of smoke in front of the cowling and leave it there. When the torque starts rising bring the throttle all the way back. It still strains a bit on the parking brake but it doesn't 'run away' leavi…

On Monday I installed Orbx's Australia 2 and this morning made a test flight from Aeropelican to Canberra at 2500 feet until I got to the mountains where I jumped to 4500 feet. Just an hour flight but I have to say the cities and towns look more 'habitable' than they do in the original Australia More urban area covered and more three dimensional houses. Yesterday I went to the Orbx limited user's forum to ask if I should uninstall all the original airport sceneries. I was told to leave them where they are because updates for them will be coming soon to makem compatible with Australia 2. I am just comparing the two sceneries for I know little about Australia…

Tittle can look misleading, but it's the theme that is so... In soaring 99,99% of my colleagues have their gliders equipped like Airbuses... I love to see the apparatus, and they still carry with them some extra instruments, but honestly, I still take my map with me, and a simplified E6-B, and a 45 euro 2nd hand Kobo Mini I seldom manage to even switch on - with Top-Hat Soaring, just in case I get lost, and lower than I should :-). But the bellow story, and the thread I got it from another forum are Hard Stuff... So, for the "tougher" here it is... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_188_Pacific_rescue The thread where I got it from is about Polar Navigati…

Asking a simple question to Aerosoft (below) and this is what I got... Several of Aerosoft's great "German Airports" have gone missing for many years. No releases of a Prepar3d v4+ version of Munich and or Dusseldorf in the Professional series? I know there is a Munich by Taxi2Gate version but it's old and the developer is a complete mystery! Great to know there is a new Zurich in development. --------------------------------------------------------------------- From one of their developers (name removed) "Yes Munich and Duesseldorf are missing, but what's about Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Friedrichhafen, Hamburg, Dortmund? Yes, development is not…

So on some NG 737 aircraft there are the ones with standard blinking strobes and a standard blinking beacon. Some NG aircraft also may have LED strobes and a standard blinking beacon, this light combo is also the same on the MAX. Is there any reason though that airlines aren't converting the beacon lights on the NG to LED beacons? Also why aren't the MAX aircraft equipped with LED beacons? Thanks, Alec.

I had originally placed this in the Milviz Section of the Avsim forum, however I need to update some of my points made and therefore it seemed a good opportunity to move the post to hanger chat. I'm not sure if there are updates pushed through Milviz Addon Manager as a few points below are no longer valid; I purchased the PC6 from Milviz yesterday and have been enjoying some flights around Tapini. Overall Milviz have done a great job with the PC6. Whilst it's not an aircraft I know much about, it's a blast to fly especially when using it's STOL capability. What I like The turbine engine start up is the best I have experienced within a flight sim (Microsoft…
