When I lived in Napa, I had two methods of listening to ATC.... One was a Radio Shack scanner, another a Shortwave radio. The shortwave went bad, so my ex wife got me a new one which I still have, from Radio Shack as well, a DX392. However it had one thing that made it a poor choice, it would "mute" when tuning, which prevented one from locating SSB (Single Sideband) broadcasts used by Oceanic. Fortunately there was a mod, kind of a computer hack of sorts, not for the brave. It involved opening up the radio, locating a connection, and bending a wire from a cable (or cutting it). It made this radio, especially with a clip 50 foot antenna, ideal for catching oceanic b…

Very. Extremely. Beyond Reason. I had a HD failure several weeks back. I have launched into a complete reinstall of P3DV4.5+ AND XP11.3+ both wiped out. I deep breath and go about doing a reinstall. So. I install the latest version P3DV4.5, I launch, its working. I install all my Orbx Global, Regions, Airports..this takes two long consecutive days. I launch P3DV4.5+, its working, I test out Orbx stuff, all seems great all around the world. So far I'm happy. I get busy outside doing much needed household stuff, gardening and such and move onto other computer projects like making slideshows. Two weeks now I had not fired up P3D...tonight, …

..Or perhaps an all-night flight for that matter? I was trying to figure out if I could conduct a long distance flight so that I at least take off and land in daylight (ignoring real life scheduling). My specific trip in the sim is Perth Australia to Cape Town South Africa - over 5000 nm. There's a handy little site called sunflight.net which shows you graphically with terminators whether you're flying in daylight or at night. You have a slider which you can move which shows the progress of your flight as the earth rotates, moving the terminators and sun positions as you go. You input the departure and arrival airports (IATA 3-letter codes) and the date &am…

Hello again, this year marks the 10th anniversary of another high profile crash. 10 years ago this coming Saturday, Air France flight 447, an Airbus A330, on what was supposed to be a routine overnight transatlantic flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Paris, France crashed into the North Atlantic barely 3 hours after leaving Brazil. The data recovered from both black boxes 3 years after the crash would send shockwaves through the commercial aviation industry and shock pilots the world over, both recreational and commercial. After having the autopilot disconnect from having the pitot probes plugged with ice, 32 year old primary first officer Pierre Bonin, who …

KLM to fund development of fuel-efficient Flying-V plane: https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/klm-flying-v-plane-scli-intl/index.html Not sure what they are thinking because the further you are from center the greater the distance you travel up or down during a roll. Which means during strong cross wind landings you may end up injuring or killing people sitting the furthest out from center with high vertical g-forces, but anyhow what do I know about physics 🤣 The article has no mention of the roll effect on these aircraft but I think this is just a marketing ploy

Hello, I am curious if anyone knows what the max range is for the 747-400 Domestic when flying with very few pax? I was thinking of using this plane in P3D to simulate having my own private 747 so most of the flights I would make with it would be very light on payload weight and wonder what's the max distance I can get out of it is. Thanks

Last month I flew to South Carolina to visit my granddaughter and great grand kids. Wonderful trip until I got back home. I started getting sharp pains in my back when breathing so I went to the emergency room. The first thing the doctor asked me was if I had been flying recently. Indeed I had. It turned out that trip gave me pulmonary embolism or blood clots in my lungs. To make a long story short for the first time in my life I was admitted into a hospital and stayed for three days while they gave me blood thinners. I came home weak as a kitten and will be taking blood thinners for about a year. It affects mostly older passengers. Look up 'flying pu…

When it comes to charter flights. If anyone is in the know. Will people charter a 500nm flight in a small single engine piston plane? Say like a C206? The reason I ask is someone told me who I believe used to be in the charter flying industry that if you were to buy a 206 you would have to be willing to fly that out to a 500nm radius from your home base airport. It's hard for me to believe that someone would actually want to do this.

Having owned Flight1's Cessna 421C Golden Eagle and their 441 Conquest II for at least 10-years; What's the deal on the Alabeo version of these planes? Aside from the great textures on the Alabeo's; Is there any compelling reason to purchase them to replace the Flight1 versions? After watching a couple of YT videos I noticed that the Alabeo's seem to have the same inaccurate idiosyncrasies as the Flight1's. TIA

Hey all, I had to get this off my chest after what I saw at an airport today. For simmer enthusiasts who have no interest in flying for real, ignore this post. Please continue to enjoy your simming as you like. This is intended for those who are looking to use FS as a gateway to real flying. I think one of the biggest misconceptions that flight sim brings is the notion that airplanes are more capable than they actually are in real life scenarios...ie "The AP will save me if I get disoriented or in unusual attitude situation" or "The high performance airplane is easy to fly, I can fly without checklists or without memorizing Vspeeds." News for some, the AP wil…

So I wanted to know, you know how like if a pilot ever approaches a small GA prop plane, the aircraft is always cold and dark? Like with no power on, no lights on, no avionics on, etc. With every Boeing I have ever seen or any airliner I have been in, I have never seen one cold and dark when at the ramp. Pilots of those aircraft never really seem to have to do cold and dark startups. The airplane is always on. Why is this? Do some pilots ever get to the aircraft on it's first flight of the day with it being cold and dark, and have to do everything themselves? Or is it like a mechanic who does all the work, and these pilots just set up the autopilot, start the engines, and…

Just a word to the newbies, Proflight Simulator is sending their email scams and spam out again. It is another ripoff of the free FlightGear simulator, these dregs surface once a year or so to lure people into believing a great new sim is out. John

I've been trying to contact you .. I've tried several times to join your Grob Tutor forum - no luck. Tried to register. No luck. Tried a 'Lost Password' routine. Nada. All I want is to congratulate you on your Grob Tutor - it is beautiful ! Congrats to Dave Bryce and his team.👏 I'm flying it in FSX, P3d v3.4 and v4.5. (and having a ball). For as many years as I can recall I have, as I have mentioned before, seen these Grobs over me at about 200' on their approach to R03 at EGOW. I can now fly the Grob myself. What a beautiful model. All I need to do now is sort the lights in v4.5, but hey - I'm too busy flying it.... Regards and thank…

I have Stage 4 Lung Cancer and have decided to step down immediately as the Forums Administrator to ensure continuity of operations. I will remain on the AVSIM Staff working with the AVSIM CEO when needed. Tom appointed me to this position in November 2013 and I have mostly enjoyed my long tour of duty as the Forums Administrator. I believe this position was one of the most difficult and challenging positions at AVSIM. I want to thank everyone at AVSIM who helped make my job a little easier and enjoyable. It was especially tough when Tom suddenly passed away leaving AVSIM with no leadership. Tom called me from his bed at the hospital and told me he had 'only mont…

Sorry if this is a super basic question. Just getting started with Xplane 11, primarily to practice with Garmin 430 and 530. What exactly does Reality XP add to Xplane's simulation of the 430 and 530? Also, any opinions and guidance of the RealSimGear 430 and 530 bezels would be appreciated. Is RealityXP recommended or needed with the RealSimGear bezels? Thanks in advance! Sam

Hello everyone it's been a while but may have heard of this book or not, but there's a book I would highly recommend; Highest Duty: My Search For What Really Matters by Sully. It's a really good book, with lots of parts of Sully's life, from his early childhood in Texas, to his service in the Air Force, to his early years as a commercial airline pilot, from the meeting and later marriage of his airline sweetheart Lorraine, to the transition from loving husband/pilot, to loving father/pilot, to the trauma and horror of 9/11, to the fallout of 9/11, and the events of January 15, 2009 that are now known as the Miracle on the Hudson! When I read the book for the f…

Hi all, been flying sims so long that finding a real challenge was kind of exciting. landing a light plane is second nature to me, yet this landing was really hard. Take off from Bandon State S05 on the Oregon Coast. Fly 060 for a few minutes, and you'll see a valley with the town of Coquille off your left, tucked into the mountain side you are facing is a private strip called Gederos. Its asphalt with no number. Its in a cut in the forest, and if you land long you will be in trouble. Gederos is hard to find, and once you find it will be a fun landing. You can't approach high, you'll end up crashing into trees. You can't really do a touch and go, unless you ha…

I use the ATC Chatter from Cleosim for fsx, it stopped working about a month ago, I sent Cleosim an email, they stated that there was a problem with the way that the program uses the live stream files and that they were working on a fix, does anyone else use this program and has anyone heard of a fix for this yet?
