Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024)

I try to start MSFS, as usal, (the normal procedure) as I always do, but I get "thrown" straight into MS store (???)... Why? What has happend? Any idea? Love Buspelle

Doing a flight from KOXC to KHPN. Entered Departure and arrival in the Welcome screen. Flight plan shows KOXC KHPN. I go to the search box and enter CMK VR. select it and all of a sudden the map zooms way in. Can't select the "ADD" because it now in view. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I noticed that if I select the waypoint from the search box immediately and shoot my cursor onto the screen as fast as possible I can sometimes catch the ADD box. Am I doing something wrong?

I am now in my late 80s, and since retiring from active flying in 1990 (8 years RAF/ 32 years BOAC/BA) I have been actively involved with all of Microsoft products excluding MSF 2020. Having been used to normal scenery throughout over 40 years of flying, I do prefer the option of the likes of VFR Photographic Scenery GEN X. I use this combination with P3Dv4 since the demise of FSX, but I do object to having to pay a large sum for the updates. My question - Is VFR Photographic Scenery GEN X ever going to be compatible with MFS 2020, because I can't adapt to computer generated scenery. roytc

Hi folks. SO about 10 days ago I updated my gaming PC to Windows 11. Then, yesterday, having not used MSFS for a while, I started everything up. All seemed well but no matter what I do, after about 5-10 minutes I get a CTD with exception '5'. I have read multitudes of things on the internet about resolving it but so far, nothing has worked. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind little bugs, or some stuttering that has to be worked out, but CTD's mean not using the app. FYI, I have a ROG Maximus XII Hero motherboard, i9-10900 CPU, ASUS GTX-3090 GPU, and 32Gb of 3200mhx memory. All hard drives are either M.2 or SSD.

I've been fairly pleased with the progress that MS/ASOBO has made in adjustments to the turboprops in general and to the performance of the TBM. These changes, along with improvements from the tbm930 Improvement mod have brought this aircraft closer and closer to book. One of the remaining issues was the gear/flaps creating too much drag, requiring torque settings quite a bit higher than normal on final with everything hanging. Now it appears they went too far - even if I pull the throttle all the way to idle on final, the aircraft just won't slow down enough to make a normal touchdown. Now, she floats for a while, even with the nose held at about 7 degrees. …

Flying the Cessna 182. With the Honeycomb throttle quadrant. I can't adjust the alt or the VS through the quadrant. Have to make these adjustments with the mouse and on screen knobs. Any Idea why this is? Or what I have to do to get the Quadrant to adjust the on screen panel? Thanks Walt and "Happy Flying" Any advise is always appreciated for sure.

Hello all! Does a GPU Render Latency matter a lot? For some reason MSFS 2020 is the ONLY game on my PC that seems to have a high Render Latency....Around 15-50ms. Thanks!

After SU6, runway steering was erratic or not at all. Also, CH throttle quadrant was erratic, sometimes going to full throttle after landing. I tried every setting I could find that was related; no joy. I shut down the computer and pulled all power cords, including powered usb hubs. When I restarted, MSFS worked perfectly; all controllers functioned normally. I've used this procedure before and it fixed other unrelated problems. I'm not sure if this will help anyone, but I thought I'd share. If you're at your wits end, this is one easy procedure to try. I'm still not sure why that works and why it has worked with other unrelated problems. Dave

Does anyone know how to increase only the ortho ZL in-sim, aka the resolution of the ground textures? After SU6 they are pretty blurry at 200 lod. Increasing to 400 lod increases the ortho ZL but also increases lots of other things like object draw distance, which in turn bombs out FPS. I want to simply increase ortho ZL (which should have minimal impact on fps) while keeping everything else the same. Haven’t been able to find a way to do this…

I am trying to install MSFS (Windows store version) onto my 2nd computer. It got to about 30GB out of 123GB and the download seem to have froze. So I quit MSFS and restarted the computer and launched it again, and now it's stuck at the Checking for Updates screen. Any ideas on what the issue could be?

After four years with my current CPU/RAM system I going to upgrade my PC in near future. Alder Lake aka i9-12000 series has received very good performance reports on tech sites. It will need a new MB with a new socket/chipset (LGA 1700 / Z690) and will support DDR4 or DDR5 RAM. Unfortunately, I have upgraded my DDR4 RAM very recently. But now I read that games that rely on streaming will notably benefit from DDR5 RAM. What are your thoughts, anybody else with upgrade plans? @mods: I put this topic here rather than in the hardware forum, because I think the DDR5 vs DDR4 question is relevant for MSFS.

HI I have low voltage / main gen warnings intermitently. Now I have a situation where the throttle doesnt repond to hardware throttle (Warthog) inputs - the throttle in the sim doesnt move and no increase in revs. I have tried other aircraft and the issue is not present ie throttle in the sim moves visually and rpm rises any ideas please

A bit of a strange problem. I'm using the Saitek yoke and throttle, and when I fly the c208 the mixture doesn't seem to work. It's mapped, and when I use the Mooney I have no issues, it seems to be only an issue with the c208.

I know I am missing something simple, but even having glanced through the manual, I am unable to find the key combination that takes me to the rear cockpit view. Can someone please enlighten me?

Is there a fix around for the "too much authority" of the control surfaces? It's very difficult to make smooth movements because at low speeds you get full elevator and ailerons control, which is unrealistic and makes smooth landings more difficult, at least for me.

I have a home built cockpit. Is there a way to remove the virtual cockpit to leave only an outside view?

It looks like the default is 1500 FT. Anyone know where we can change that number? I am attempting to start the ICON A5 on a local lake but, not having any luck so I have been going with an air start near the lake. Regards, Ray

I've been wanting to consider making a switch to simply the already-complex process of preparing for a flight. I end up having to use several tools for different things. I use Simbrief to build my routes (for use in the CRJ FMS) and then a sight like AirNav to get my elevation data and such (which I still can't seem to find in SimBrief) and I also pay for Navigraph Charts so I often will use that as my moving map. Am I over-complicating things here? Can I get all of what I need in just one of them?

Computer only 13 months old, purchased already built. Slowly as months went by, temps began to rise. At 85+ running MSFS and would sometimes peak at about 100 in heavy scenery and other heavy programs running on the desktop. Now I have never seen even 60 and usually runs MSFS in the low 40s. Desktop programs without MSFS running is in the 30s (it used to be the 70s). Only thing I did was replace the original water cooler (house brand) with a new one. Enermax Liqmax III 120 RGB AIO CPU Liquid Cooler from Amazon. A very basic water cooler but Enermax is well known PSU company and the build quality looked very good.
