  1. I made some Ortho scenery for a forest, using Bing as a source, and I'm noticing a lot of clouds are built-in to the ground textures. Any idea if MSFS-2020 will use the same source photos as Bing Maps uses? Will they do anything to correct the clouds in Bing's photos, so the ground isn't covered in cloud textures?

I watch all the lovely pics and vids with a nagging thought at the back of my head. Is it really for me who live at the end of line of a lousy ADSL2 connection ? Are we going to see a FSX redux when a nice sim in 2006 required hardware to be released in 2009... This time around, the issue wouldn’t be CPU or GPU but bandwidth. I am no expert at all in the matter. This issue has come up in several threads already and I thought it might be useful to focus it in one thread. Declaring a flight and waiting for the download of imagery along the route to be completed before flying ? Allow users huge regional (the West Coast for instance) downloads to lighten the…

This forum is getting a little repetitive and contributions scarcer that they were. Time for something new but I don’t have any bright idea to share so why not something useless and slightly ludicrous ? Let’s have it. NDB emits on the same band than AM radio stations. Wouldn’t it be cool if some FS20 aircraft had an ADF receiver with a voice mode that could get local radio stations where we fly ? Most of them are streamed to the Internet so it could be done. If you’ve your own useless (and slightly ludicrous) idea, dont be ashamed, add it here😀!

  5. Update threads for upcoming updates usually get locked until the update actually gets released. However, many people still want to discuss about expectations about upcoming updates, so I created this topic so that those people have a place to talk. After the update gets released, discussion can move to an "official" update thread. Until then, this is an open discussion thread about today's upcoming update. If any moderator thinks that this is a bad idea, feel free to shut this topic down. (Also keep the "Is the update out yet?" posts to a minimum)

HI all Today new update, I was looking through the old once however, and noticed one thing. That video released the 29th, where you break through the clouds, a ring effects happens on the wind shield. is that normal? I mean, I never IRL dove through the clouds like that (obviously :P) but it looks, like a hard edge. Whata re they trying to simulate here? Cheers Vic

  8. Xbox servers down from BusinessInsider.com "Microsoft's online gaming service, Xbox Live, powers online gaming for millions of Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners. On Friday afternoon, the service went offline for a large portion of those Xbox owners. Microsoft reported issues with the core functionality of Xbox Live, from basic signing in to account management and search functionality. It was the third time in as many days that Xbox Live's "core services" went offline."

At least what looks like an in-game vid. Flight simulator action ! Love that one The good (I even might say the impressive good) : the rain, the final glare, the feeling of flight The bad : the transition from the cloud/mist needs a serious revisiting

August 29th, 2019 – Development Update Wandering into the grass of irrelevancy attempting to flush out the rodents of inaccuracy in order to bring you the “real news”. As we bring August to a close, the team wanted to provide a few quick updates and some new content. Development Roadmap – General release of the DR is here! We’ve added a few updates for September to improve clarity. So, I made some calculations on the bandwidth required to stream orthoscenery in real time, given the following hypothesis: .) At initial loading, the scenery is loaded in rings of decreasing resolution. The inner ring has a given resolution (e.g. ZL18, ZL17, etc.) and a radius of 5000ft (about 1 mi / 1.5 km), and outer rings have progressively lower zoom levels; the radii of outer rings have been chosen to ensure a roughly constant visual resolution (i.e. skewed, distant terrain requires progressively lower ZL than the terrain underneath the aircraft, for a given visual resolution). https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-dPBW4CWwDPiQgHTEJEIfkbCMiwyjeGT/view?usp=driv…

Can we request longer preview videos please. We all realize these are from pre Alpha builds. It's not finished yet. I feel 4-5 minute videos would be appropriate. Greazer.

Has there been any screenshots, videos or mentions of seasons? It's not a deal breaker for me if there are no seasons but if there is going to be seasons, hopefully at some point in one of the updates, they will hint at the fact that seasons will be in the sim.

Anyone reckon we'll be seeing something like this in FS?

  16. Started by andyjohnston.net,

Just wondering if others are seeing the same as me. Clicking on the link to the msfs web site now redirects me to https://www.flightsimulator.com/ where it says the page can't be displayed.

  17. Started by MDFlier,

Greetings! Since I know that MS is watching / listening, I have but one simple request. Would you PLEASE make sure that we have access to ALL of the options that we need to set on our GPUs to make the sim look the way that it should from the options menu in the sim? For years now, I've had to use Nvidia Inspector to set some of the options that aren't available from within the sim. 99% of us are using Nvidia or AMD GPUs. Please make sure that we can configure them properly via the in-sim menus. And as to the rodent thing.... We on the coasts have to avoid the occasional flock of seagulls or egrets. Just saying...

  19. Started by rhumbaflappy,

Just a caution here about the Tech Alpha Builds and what MS will expect. First, participants will most likely be under an NDA... so no discussion here about what you experience. Next, you'll be a guinea pig for hardware, multiplayer, and streaming content testing. They'll want specific things checked. They will not want to hear about rodents or the direction of water flow in the rivers. It's a TECH alpha. They need to see if this thing will even work on the general public's hardware. You'll have assignments. And no whining allowed. Weak systems will be very much needed, so they can test the limits of what is possible. In all, this will probably not be a lot…

FS9 was A Century Of Flight. FSX was just... FSX. I wonder whether FS20 could be called A Coming Of Age 😉 ?

Extremely interesting for what it has and has not. The bad : No car on the road, no steeple in view (there is a need to have churches in European sceneries !), some bizarre looking industrial buildings (untextured ?) The good : Excellent colorimetry (no reddish or bluish overtone like we see on some orthos), great field textures, the feeling of being there, not a landmark landscape.

  24. Started by Dominique_K,

It looks like a tidal beach like we have on the Western coasts of France, the sea withdrawing several hundreds of meters baring the sand. I do not think that we'll have tides in FS20, the ultimate frontier of FS synamic sceneries but we can dream, can't we ? More seriously, will the clouds bring only shadows over the water or also shade the sea a greyish green ?

  25. The insider program is about to start in a few days, and I don t know if I will be able to take part of it since I am using Windows 7. I know Windows 7 will not be supported in january 2020, but my plan was to wait for Microsoft's infos to see if my hardware will be strong enough for MSFS and in that case, buy a Windows 10 retail licence alone (145€...ouch), or if I need a new Pc wich will have Windows 10 already installed. I know there is no official informations yet on minimum configuration required but at the same time the insider program may require Windows 10, at least that is what I understand. Anyone in the same situation here, or any advice for me ?…
