TL;DR: Can MSFS come with its own scenery gateway like XPlane? I am a freeware XPlane scenery developer. I have never made an airport for Microsoft ESP before so I have no clue as to how you folk do things on your side. In XPlane, we have a scenery gateway (see: https://gateway.x-plane.com/). The logic behind the site is as follows: 1. Users use Laminar Research's assets to make airports 2. These are then uploaded to the Gateway and checked by appointed moderators 3. Moderators give feedback and either approve/reject the user submission 4. If approved of, the scenery is then shipped with the latest XPlane update. This ensures that the …

Some really interesting observations from a guy who sees things at a different level than most of us. Apologies if it’s already been posted elsewhere, I started a thread because this guy doesn’t get the hype of the other people and he’s observing things none of the rest have them have.

Trying to figure out where some of the pictures in the gallery on FS Elite previews are taken I have recognized some of the places like New York, San Francisco, Paris, but not sure about the rest, like the one below. https://fselite.net/previews/microsoft-flight-simulator-4k-previews-from-the-global-preview-event/ For instance picture #10 :

I've been away from the sim world for a few years (MS Flight threw me into a depression) but news of FS20 has me skipping back. One thing though that always bothered me, was the absence of wig-wag lights. In the real world, they are not only significant at alerting you of a runway but they have an intense presence about them that is just so cool to me. So at the end of the day, I just hope they've included wig wag light..

  10. Any word on how fast your internet speed needs to be for streaming this game? Already get stutters now everytime AS updates the weather in P3D. I know there is an offline mode and ability to precache terrain but what will the quality be compared to live streaming in real-time? Heard precaching might reduce scenery detail slightly to reduce download wait times? Will the Microsoft servers running this be up to the challenge of a large surge of players at certain times and days? The amount of data that has to be sent to the end user regarding satellite terrain weather and shading seems huge compared to online FPS style games... Has there been menti…

  11. Water has always been the poor cousin in the FS family world of sceneries (incl. P3D). The high seas colors and swell are barely OK as seen from altitude but the costal areas (incl. tidal basins, marshlands, corals etc.) and inland rivers/deltas (silt) nowhere close to the real world and difficult to improve in a LC world with a grain no finer than 1.44 km2 . I suppose that the aerial/sat imagery will help. Also the waves crashing on beaches are out of a bad cartoon. But more important than these two issues the friction physics and the absence of real 3D waves agitated by the wind (strength, direction) make floatplanes takeoffs and landings very arcad…

The info below is from ARSTECHNICA who attended the demo gathering https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/09/the-new-ms-flight-simulator-taught-me-how-to-fly-an-actual-plane/ Asobo says it wants the community's feedback in a big way, and in a good-faith gesture, the company is already working with third-party developers who have made and sold add-ons to existing Flight Simulator games. Shortly after the new game's E3 reveal, existing third-party devs began talking to Asobo. NDAs were signed and reps flew to meet with Asobo and Microsoft, receive the upcoming game's SDK, and affirm their interest in having their add-on wares hosted both in an in-…

Does anyone have any ideas as to how the new sim will work with mesh? Will we still have generic mesh resolution and then more detailed resolution options or do you think the mesh will simply render true, globally. It seems to be the latter

As I have followed the simmer community over the last decades (especially the last decade) I'm sure, we're now forcing a bunch of new problems, once MSFS is released: - "there is currently low/high tide at my beach, Why isn't that represented in the sim" - "LH0815 has departed this morning at 08:15 from EDDM, but in the sim the AI LH0815 has departed 15 minutes later" - "I have built a new pool in my garden, Why can't I still see it in my sim?" - "Where is the rainbow in the sim I could see out of my window?" and so on ....

I see a lot of negativity about subscription and streaming. How many of us don't have a music streaming app. ? Do you buy CDs or even buy and download tracks ? Spotify : I download the client and stream down the music I am in the mood to listen for 10 €/month. FS2020: I may have to download the core and stream down the scenery I am in the mood to fly. What's wrong ?

One of the interviews with the MS developers has hinted that the flight dynamics models are clear text files. Does this mean that anyone who looks into the aircraft folder can see the FDE modeling implemented for each aircraft? Bearing in mind that companies like PMDG would consider anything of the sort created for their aircraft to be exclusive IP, how does that leave developers who do not want this information shared?

In FSX and P3D and now also in the MSFS2020 lakes and rivers have the unrealistic looks as oceans. The waves in rivers and lakes should not be that visible as they are in oceans. Do they really not differentiate rivers and oceans textures in MSFS2020?

In the Seattle Interview Panel one of the panelists refers to this as a “ten year project” or something to that effect. This is in line with a lot of software these days like Windows 10. Even games these days get updates and new features for longer than in the past. Everyone wants seasons and VR right away, which would be nice, but unless there’s a disaster there will be time for updates.

They are ticking just about every box there is, But it's going to be DX11 with Emulated Ray Tracing. I could have sworn it was RT based on some of the videos, showing reflections, but no. This sim could be the end of tweaking though. Worldwide Orbx like ground scenery. Plan a trip then just go. In XP I have to spend so much time do maintenance, upgrading plugins, tweaking scripts, art controls etc. This will hopefully end all that (except for custom addons). Greazer.

Hi ASOBO and Microsoft, I hope you are well, I looked at the FSElite video today on Aerodyamics and Cockpits. I feel there are some things that maybe because of time were missed and I wondered if you could include regards Aerodynamics and environmental impact on the airframe such as Ground Friction how will the different weather situations effect braking and taxi performance? Will the Aircraft skid due to Oil or Icy conditions on the runway? Will it be a fly by numbers approach to the airframe or will it be more physics centred in that the environment has an effect on fuel burn, lift and drag etc.. Just things that would make it more reali…
