  1. More or less than FSX? What types? Which ones specifically? How many will be "study-level" if any? Will some be made by third parties? Personally I hope they have as many as FSX even though the default aircraft weren't great in hindsight. FSX had enough to give people a taste of everything. For example, there should be a glider even though its not the most popular aircraft. I'm glad it looks like they have the carbon cub (or another cub). Obviously there's a few GA planes already. There's got to be at least one airliner. Which ones have been confirmed by marketing information? DA-6. Cub. Which one is in the African clip?

What am I doing wrong? I'm logged into www.flightsimulator.com and all I see is the short 6 second video of the blurred aircraft and that's what I see if I'm NOT logged in, what gives? Never mind, figured it out

  3. For those who don't follow the OrbX scene closely, excellent news from the dominant scenery developer. John V who seemed to be until now a little "reserved" about FS20 says in a post today : With regard to the new MS simulator, we’re very excited about its entry into the market and as MS have already publicly committed to working with third parties then I am confident there will be opportunities for Orbx and the many other FS development studios all over the world. In the same post, he announces an expansion of the regional LC scenery program ! We are hiring 3-4 more GIS specialists and texture artists for our UK Dev Centre. They will be involved in crea…

i heard this is what the new Microsoft flight simulator will be using, is this service out yet if so has anybody used it? what will the price be to use it? this is a totally new technology to me and it seems very interesting. thanks

  5. First, people are mentioning Stadia specifically. That is a Google product that Microsoft will never use. Microsoft's equivalent is xCloud. The next issue is that there are different types of cloud/streaming of games and sims. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_gaming#Types If you look at the Wikipedia article, there are several types of "cloud gaming." The most well-known type seems to be gaming on demand, based on a thin client where the server does everything and input is fed quickly to the server and the results are sent back. Another is progressive downloading, where you can play the game immediately but other parts are downloaded in the background. …

The 4 new videos are captured at 60 fps, while previous ones were at 30 fps. Don't know if they seconded my request in another thread, or it was just by chance. Anyway, these latest videos look smoother compared to the previous ones (e.g. the aerobatics one, captured in an earlier build). From what we've seen even in these latest videos (visuals, weather, flight model), I don't see competition for MFS, just as it had been up to FSX. There are still a couple of unknowns, e.g. performance on a mid-high level pc (but the latest videos are promising), performance in VR, bandwidth required for scenery streaming, etc. that could possibly leave a small market shar…

Wich engine do you think the new flightsim will be buildt on? To me it looks like its either Unigine or Unity with Simul's TrueSky plugin. On Simul webpage you can see one of the partners using truesky is Microsoft Game Studios.

  9. Whenever the team posts new videos, there are those who complain about stutters. It tends to divert and pollute an interesting discussion about the video content to something utterly boring and annoying. The sim is in such an early state that these performance issues I am sure will be addressed. If you cannot resist talking about, maybe write a letter to the team or start a separate topic on it, but please do not bring it up every time.....thanks a lot!

With this new style of 3D maps to scenery what do you think will happen with the heliports as they get scanned over? I assume the 3D buildings will be generated if its in a detailed area or autogen on top of ortho if it was a non 3D scanned area just like any other area within the sim. X-Plane has the heliports in its database and just drops a simple H pad at the GPS coordinates. Can we hope the Nav data with the identifiers, name, and location are added to the sim? I assume where it sees a big concrete pad its will just remain a concrete pad in ortho and be blurry up close. It would be great if they could combine the nav database with their scanned data and recognize…

I love all the visuals from MSFS'20 thus far, but I'm truly hoping that the ATC will be significantly improved to go with the eye candy. We all know the issues there. Also, adding some dynamic range to the spectrum of sounds around the airport would be welcomed as well.

Anyone noticed they changed the registration number on the TBM? Used to be AS-MGS, now it's AS-XGST. MGS = Microsoft Games Studio; XGST = Xbox Games Studio. It might mean they started the project before the branding change.

My PC spec for P3Dv4.5 is: ASUS Z170 Gaming Pro, I7 6700K OC'd to 4.5GHz, 16Gb RAM@2134 MHz, MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8 Gb, 4 x Samsung 860 EVO 250 Gb SSD My planned spec for next PC for P3Dv5 and MS2020: GigaByte Z390 Auros Pro, I9 [email protected]/5.1 GHz, 16Gb [email protected] RTX Gaming X 8Gb, Kingston A2000 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD, Samsung 860 2TB SSD My BIG question is: As the build has a new CPU with 2 times the number of cores and threads than the old CPU and also a faster motherboard with faster Memory, faster video card and faster M.2 SSD, one should think (in theory) that the performance running P3D and MS2020 should be twice …

  15. Started by jetlag,

For weeks, I have tried without success to log in. I know I have an OK insider account because I have just received an email re: alpha testing If I try to log in I am told to create an Xbox profile, which I don't need but I click "accept" anyway. Then I see a revolving circle of green dots for a few seconds and finally a message that an unexpected error occurred and try again later... This is rather frustrating. Has anybody else got this problem? or better still the solution? Thanks

I know we haven't got any info from the MSFS Team about how they have implemented multicore usage in MSFS2020, but... Will MS2020 implement code to fully utilize multicore usage? Which will be the most important, clock speed, cores or threads?

Telling me to get the survey done, when the fact is, I completed the survey within 15 min of it being posted. I wonder if they sent this out because they have not gotten enough applicants??? Well I can say for myself, I'm ready now - I have been ready as soon as I saw the trailer. 😊

I just found out that MS will have real drones with advanced 3D cameras covering large areas, so users can connect to them and have real-time world sceneries. Not sure we will see this in the first MSFS2020 release, but maybe in 2021. Did I smoked or dreamed this up. We will see.

I note that in the form for the Alpha test, we were asked if we had caps on our Internet usage. We have Comcast and have a 1TB limit per month. We usually use about 60% of that until my granddaughter was off of school for the summer and must have watched Netflix 10 hours a day! We went over our limit last month. So, I fixed that problem. But, if we normally use about 500-600 GB per month as I teach online for three schools and we do enjoy streaming music and video, I wonder how much more MSFS would add to that. There are unlimited plans and, if necessary, we could go with that although they are not cheap.

Reading the Development Roadmap below tells me that we will only get updated World, Weather, Aerodynamics and Cockpits functionality in the first release of MSFS2020. Other areas as AI airplanes, ATC, View system etc will not be updated with new functionality. As they also stated in the August 22 update that the SDK update was planned for August, MSFS will be backward compatible with todays P3Dv4/FSX airplanes( with some minor updates) I am in no way complaining, I am excited by MS return to flightsim, but this is what I can read out from the DR.

If we have a couple of 15 seconds video and some pics, what would you like to see ? For me : - a video of a floatplane on water with a little wind making waves. - four pictures of the same landscape in the US or Europe each on a different season

The clip seems to look to the North. Isn't a little weird that the center horizon should be so bloomy ?

  23. It is the vacancy Microsoft leasves. And there will be vast uncultivated territories. Think about sceneris. 3D cities are very few. There are no 3D cities for most of Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America. So we need 3rd party base pack, vector, landclass for different areas, and aerial imagery with accurate 3d landscapes like TrueEarth series. Even for those 3D Cities offered by Microsoft can leasve a lot of room for improvement. Why has not Microsoft offered any closeup ground pictures? It's very likely because 3D photogrammetry buildins and trees are not very pleasant sight when watched closely. Well the 3rd party developers can improve on this. Orbx are you liste…

Isn't a sloped runway we see as the relief seems to indicate or is it wishful thinking on my part ? A nice overall atmospheric lighting but the reflections of the fuselage at the end of the clip are excessive. Hollywood, here I come !

The cloud shadows are extremely nice, the soft gradient at the border of the darker zone is an impressive improvement over what we have now.
