I have discovered the news of MSFS 2020 only a few days ago, so I assume most have seen these observations from PMDG: https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/14257-12jun19-pmdg-and-the-microsoft-flight-simulator-2020-question

Hey, will FS2020 feature the same ridiculously oversized autogen trees and houses that are present in FSX (and P3D) ?!?! Please do some actual research, like comparing the real world to the laughable oversized cartoon that is FSX / P3D! Oversized autogen trees and houses create a false sense of altitude, i.e. you feel you're flying lower than you really are. In FSX (and P3D) I disable both tree and house autogen because I can't stand flying in a world where houses are the size of "warehouses" and trees are the size of "redwoods", it's an absolute joke. And I've never purchased any 3rd party scenery (like ORBX, except for their "global" series) becaus…

We've come a long way in having a much improved atmospheric lighting in 20 years ! As I recall, FS9 was much better than FS2k2 then the clamour of simmers for shadows including cloud shadows was nicely implemented with a workable DX10 (remember Steve's fixer 😊?) , giving a much better sense of depth. But the atmospheric light is still rudimentary, harsh, somewhat binary. There are addons to mitigate that (PTA, REX stuff etc.) but any tweaking has lost all its fun for me long ago. What we see in the trailer looks good. But I expect that FS20 will give us straight from the box (so to speak as there won't probably be any box) a reasonable approximation without any …

Hi everyone, This quote is from Phil Spencer in the Guardian interview. https://www.theguardian.com/games/2019/jul/24/head-in-the-clouds-the-return-of-microsoft-flight-simulator What do you understand by that?

The FS ATC was introduced in FS2K2 in 2001 and improved in FS9 in 2003, it is now 16 years old ! A revamping is long overdue. I am under no illusion. I doubt that the new sim will offer a truly comprehensive ATC functionality. But I hope it corrects at least few basic irritants like : - vectoring an IFR flight to the destination airport much too early in the flight - the inability to raise ATIS/tower on radio when the aircraft is more than 30 miles from the airport - its inability to throw a curveball (like reducing speed, ordering a hold pattern)

Maybe it is time to stop talking "evolution vs revolution" in general terms to get into what we exactly mean when we ask for something new. I did a first post on water. My feeling is that MS could easily do something to improve water rendering and physics. Now another deficiency of today's sims which I suspect is much more complicated to reprogram. Interaction between relief mesh and air dynamics has been very much neglected until now. Turbulences over relief and convection on slopes (moutain/valley breeze, anabatic/katabatic winds) are poorly implemented (understatement of the year). More than more eye candy which I do not despise, I wish the MS team could…

I have some concerns regarding airport configurations on previous sims (mainly FSX, so is a MS one) and the way the sim handles the active runways. I'm going to make an example with LEMD Madrid-Barajas Airport, but it can be applied to any airport with similar characteristics (feel free to post here the airport, setting or issue of your concern). I'm making this topic mainly because, as MSF developers said, they read the forums, so I think is a way of giving those "issues" some visibility. I'm aware of maybe this is fixed. But hey! We don't know anything yet, so better say it now than when the sim is already released. Example LEMD counts with 4 runways…

I start to think I will go to a trip around the earth with this new sim as he will hopefully offer us the possibility to see it as it truly is. Mainly short legs to fly low. Does anyone thinking the same? What would be your route?

"Turn down the lights, tune out the real world, and turn on Flight Simulator. Flying high over the Grand Canyon, it's easy to forget that you're sitting at a desk staring into a computer monitor. Sure, Flight Simulator looks real, but it also sounds real. And sound has a subtle yet powerful psychological effect on a simulation's believability." This quote taken from Flight Simulator's Learning Center encompases a great philosophy in regards to sounds and their effect on simulating an immersive environment. I feel this is an area where despite the quote above, hasn't been pushed to it's full potential as of yet in the Microsoft line of sims when it comes to the…

https://www.theguardian.com/games/2019/jul/24/head-in-the-clouds-the-return-of-microsoft-flight-simulator “For games like Flight Simulator, the cloud provides “a system that kind of understands how much capability I need at any point,” Spencer explains. “It’s no different than what we’ve done in years past, streaming into available RAM that’s available on our consoles.” Flight Simulator will have an offline mode when it launches in 2020, but given how heavily it relies on data streamed from Microsoft servers, it’s likely to be severely truncated.”

1. Flight Planner - there's plenty of good flight planners, they should not spend resources on this. Same goes for sim data and moving maps etc (got Navigraph). Stay focused on the Core Sim features. 2. Super advanced default planes. Default planes should be decent enough. Don't go all out for instance and attempt to destroy the Hotstart TBM 900 in XP! 3. Release one patch like FSX then disappear. It's called proper product support. 4. Skip people like FSX did. There is some evidence of walking people in the trailer. We also need a first person walk mode for instance when inside the terminal or to do the walk around etc. 5. Turn this into the sims. …

I have been a Microsoft flightsimmer since the very start of this amazing journey back in the 1980s. As MS flightsimming has been a part of my life for a long time, I am very exited to play this latest version when it is released in 2020. I want Microsoft and specially the Xbox Game Studio that develops the MFS to have a huge success with this new release. - Keep an open communication with the customers - Release a SDK ASAP Thanks Microsoft

The latest announcement for the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 looks very impressive😃 It appears that compatibility will be assured for airport scenery and aircraft simulator developers. However, IF things are as they appear, there is likely to be major market disruption for Prepar3D and Orbx. The future looks very interesting.😎

The MSFS Team updated their web: JULY 11TH, 2019 – DEVELOPMENT UPDATE As the team enters the dog days of summer, we’ve been hard at work putting the finishing touches on many of the big updates we’re planning to share toward the end of summer. Our excitement continues to build, as does our impatience to share this information with you. So we press forward counting down the days until we can open the hangar doors and dive into the details with you. There are many very important topics being discussed in the community (e.g. New Flight Model/IFR-VFR Flight/Weather Simulation Depth/VR Support, etc.). The team is constantly monitoring the feedback/suggest…

(-Disclaimer- this is pure speculation) On the FSI website the devs say the next update will be on July 25th. The EAA Oshkosh Airshow/ Fly-in is this week and I have no idea if this is pure coincidence or that they will somehow have a booth. They obviously do not have a finished simulator so the chances of them making an appearance are pretty slim, but the fact that the update falls during the same week as the largest aviation event just makes me wonder! what are your guys' thoughts? If they did somehow show up, what would they do/have to show off the sim?

"The Concorde-X for 64-bit is now officially on pause. (...), we have to ensure that we align our business model with the significant development news that we received from Microsoft, and since the aircraft is so specialized, we prefer to evaluate further once there are more details on the new platform." "We were very happy to read the announcement of the new Microsoft Flight Simulator platform (which most now affectionately call "MSFS 2020"). It signals the return of one of the most prolific products that our good friends in Redmond have developed and we are all very excited to take a preview look into what looks to be technologies bringing the simulated world to a ne…
