My question is simple. I have been looking into PFPX and also Simbrief but cannot see how PFPX is better then Simbrief. Both incorporate weather, both have ETOPS planning, both have fuel calculations and on Simbrief they seem to be correct. Both will give me a full flight plan and can save these flight plans, so the question is what make PFPX worth paying £50 for a years subscription and then having to pay more every month after that?

Okay, with time on my hands and dreams of Powerball winnings making garbage of the darkness between my ears, I started to do a "round the world flight planning" thought exercise and have run into a problem. First, I don't fly tubeliners - ever. If I did, this would not be a difficult mental puzzle; it would be a relatively simple process. Second, I have figured out multiple routes 3/4 of the way round the world from various starting points in a turboprop. My problem comes down to crossing the Pacific. Even if I route myself northward Hong Kong-Japan-Aleutians-Canada, I have trouble making the distance because I can't match a long-range aircraft with a route across…

Hello there! Was thinking on making the trip KMRY-KSFO with the Majestic Dash Q400, but when using PFPX to determine route, it made me go back south to BSR (BIG SUR) to follow the BSR2 Star into KSFO 28L/28R. Does anyone know what type of flight plans that are common on such short routes? In this case, flight time is around 30 min, so I'll guess you have to plan the approach while still being at the departure airport. I also assume that arriving aircraft into KSFO is being vectored and not given a star from KMRY (?).

Goal: Use my microsoft surface as a moving map/flight planner during flight in P3D. Cost should be minimal or zero. Attempts thus far: Tried both magicdesk and splashtop to drag my GTN750 across to the surface. Both are too jittery and unstable to use reliably. Known options: Fltpln Go has an option to connect their android app ( I use a note 5) to fsx, which may be able to be converted or modified to use with P3D. Have pfpx and Plan G, unaware of how to connect to P3D wirelessly. I'm hoping the great community here can help me with solutions. I'd love to be able to use my surface for viewing plates, watching the moving map, looking up freqs during …

Hi All. Your missions: Flight plan to follow your favorite football team (US, NFL) on all their away games. I just finished the season in a C195 with three of my friends, using real weather (Historic) for the games. The Dallas trip was brutal without AP, but it is really rewarding to do it "old school", and leaving the GPS in the hanger. In fact, this is a coold idea no matter what sport it is. Hello fellow simmers; Im sure that this question has been answered several times; however, I'm to incompetent to find the correct answer for what exactly im looking for. For my flight planning im using PFPX, when I plan a flight within the United States, I always go to flightaware and copy the route of the flight that I want to fly. This is not the case for the EU flights tho. I cant seem to find any "active" routs of which I can follow. So i always take the route that PFPX generates. Is there any website/ forum... that can give me an active route for an EU flight? Many thanks in advanced and of course many thanks for the suggestions/ solutions. Happy New Year an…

Just got the Aerosoft A320 on special and although I'm not new to flight sims, flightplans are a new facet of the hobby for me. I completed Aerosoft's first tutorial flight and it went perfectly well. I then tried to make my own flightplan for a short flight between Montreal (CYUL (my home airport)) and Toronto (CYYZ) using this but didn't go as well. Entering the flight plan isn't a problem, its finding the right plan and the SIDs and STARs that fit with it. I'd like to know how you guys build/choose your flightplans and how you choose the SIDs and STARs. Also, does anyone use the vanilla FSX ATC in conjunction with your flightplans?

Hello wonder if I could get some help, I'm using FS2004 with IFLYB747-4 but with this aircraft as yet there is no Navdata available to use for VHHX so Im trying to find flight plans which I can manually input into my FMC. for instance if I fly to VHHH the route from that point to RWY 31 or 13g and any routes which I can take to fly out of Kai Tak Living in Japan i'd particularly like to fly from RJGG or RKSI or VMMC too/back from VHHX Im trying a flight now from RJGG (Nagoya) to VHHX using VHHH to Elato then Magog TP then fingers crossed from that point entering the RWY Hd 316 Ils Freq 109.90 and hope for LOC capture to RWy 31 Any advice would be grea…

I was hoping to get direction on finding a good tutorial on Nav systems like the GNS 530 for FSX. Video, or written either so long as I can follow along. I get the basic idea of how to manage the GNS530 but I imagine there is so much I am missing.

Can someone recommend a FlightAware type website that caters more to Europe? Specifically looking for website that can provide real world schedules, aircraft types and flightplans between user input origin and destination European airports? I realize FlightAware can provide most of the info but it does not provide the real world routes between European airports. Thanks

Ok, Just purchased PFPX. Not cheap at 41 Euro's, BUT seems a good investment. However I notice that it comes with a VERY old nav database and I need to spend even more money (22 Euros) to by a license to update it. That makes it a 60+ Euro investment. I already have a license to Navigraph to keep my aircraft FMC databases current and their charts also. Is it correct that I must purchase this Aerosoft NavData Pro to get PFPX current? It seems to duplicate the functions of Navigraph to a large extent - i.e. both can update the FMC of aircraft such as PMDG's NGX? Thanks for your help.

Hi all, I have been using Routefinder (free) for a while now but the flight planning is quite basic, often not representative of real world flight routings. I have identified PFPX as an option to purchase. Fly mostly the PMDG NGX. Looking for a program that is relatively easy to master and will send flight plans in NGX accepted formats. Are there other options that I should take a close look at or is this considered the best of the best? One last question, can PFPX display on a second monitor while FSX is running in full screen mode? I am using a GTX 780Ti and Windows 10 Pro x64.

Here's a flight plan that I created with PFPX... It's a very short flight from KIAH to KDFW. It says my initial flight altitude is FL340, but when loading this flight plan into the PMDG 777 and getting ther PERF INIT automatically updated on the FMC, it shows a different FL. So which one do I use? FL340 seems like such a high altitude for such a short flight. Doesn't sound right to me. Not sure what the real world FL is for KIAH - KDFW. Also what's the proper order to go through setting up the FMS before you take off? Do I set up the fuel load first using the information provided to me in the flight plan below, enter my ZFW, configure my payload, or does payload u…

I heard about this and wanted to know exactly what a step climb is used for? Is it automatically calculated into your FMC when uploading or entering in your routes? or is this something you have to manually specify? Also in the PMDG 777, how would you manually perform a step climb? I'm assuming using altitude intervention mode? Ex: dial in the desired altitude on the MCP and hit the FLCH or VS button? Correct me if I'm wrong. Or is there a better way to handle step climbs?

Could someone please walk me through on how to vector myself. Here's my scenario. I'm using the PMDG 777. I created a flight plan in PFPX, exported it out, loaded it into my FMC, select my departing and arrival runways, along with the approriate SID/STARs. When pressing the LEGS button to look at the waypoints on my flight plan, I see it starts off with some stuff like (600) or (FAF), (INT), (VECTORS), etc I can't seem to grasp this technique down and would be happy if someone can show me exactly what I need to press on the MCP. After I perform a take off, do I set the AP on, and then manually use the HDG selector to steer my plane to the (600), (FAF) and (INT…

Looking for a flight planner that would save a flight plan complete with sids and stars so they would show up already done in the company route section of the cdu. I know the online versions don't, at least the ones I tried so maybe someone knows of an online or even payware version that would save a complete plan.

Good evening, When planning a flight, how do I know if I'll encounter a headwind or a tailwind? At what altitude and waypoints would I be able to anticipate the components of the latter? Headwind and tailwind are factors I never really considered until recently, especially on long hauls where it has become more evident, the need to educate myself about these things. Arrival times are affected by said components and I'd like to correct this by adjusting figures of nautical miles. Please, if anyone knows, I'd truly appreciate your response. Use example flights if you need to. For reference, I fly FSX boxed using the standard plan in fsx. I then fly high…

How many times can you switch between VFR and IFR? For example, departing LFLU to LFLG in a C172, LFLG is in the middle of horseshoe shaped mountains. MSA on eastern side is around 10,500 and higher. But you can enter through the openside of the horseshoe to get into LFLG from skyvector.com. I guess the main problem is that I have PPFX and it does not seem to be aware of the mountains. It looks like PlanG might help with MSAs.

Sometimes I come across charts that do not display what coordinates (S, N, E, W) are there. LSZH is one example, take a look at what I face when I try to enter "D8" into my FMC (FlightFactor 757 for X-Plane) in order to capture LOC and APP for runway 14: Then I'll look at the chart, but this is what I see: How may I navigate with this? Here's the chart http://www.fly-sea.com/charts/LSZH.pdf Thanks.

Hi When making a flightplan I rather often need a geographic navigation fix which is not in the data base (Updated NAVIGRAPH). The updated FMC USER'S MANUAL for PMDG 737NG - AOM page 30 Revision - 1.4 2APR04 and page 31 Revision - 1.4 23APR04 show three methods to fix the problem Place bearing/ Distance Latitude/Longitude Place bearing/Place bearing I generally fly the 737-800 version 1.1, and need unknown fixes. For DME approaches, for instance, I use the # 1 method which is easy and works fine. But when there is a succession of unknown waypoints (4, 5, 6 ...) for instance, method # 1 don't work, and method # 2 would be the best. Unfortunately, neither the format pr…

Hi Guys, I hope this is the right forum otherwise, please move it for me. At this moment I'm getting my feet wet in flight planning. if seen a lot of options for this. I decided on the free onlineflightplanner for a simple flight plan and I took a subscription Navigraph Charts for 9 Euros a month. I must say that its pretty hard like this. The hardest part are the transitions. For example, the STARS for EDDM doesn't really add up from the route I took from Eham. You might not understand what I mean with so little info, but the point is that i have been struggling with it. Now i saw a website that had software called Professional Flight Planner X. As I read abo…
