Im noticing a lot of knee jerk reaction. FULLY understandable! But its going to be free, so at least give it a try. Some quotes from this artical.http://flyawaysimula...rosoft-studios/"The team behind Microsoft Flight® consists of roughly 50 people, including a mix of professional pilots, 40% of which worked on the previous team.""The team has put a great deal of effort into getting the game to run smoothly at it’s highest settings, while not requiring out of this world hardware. But also, getting it to still look good on it’s lowest settings, accommodating those end users with lower-end hardware and even those running the Windows XP operating system.""However, the gam…

I too feel the need to vent my frustration at what a let down Microsoft Flight has revealed itself to be. Here is my open letter to Microsoft:"I've literally grown up with flight sim, introduced to FS4 by my dad and buying every edition since. I've followed blimps around Meigs field, learnt about ILSs by flying through the hoops in the sky, discovered VOR navigation, joined the freeware community, bought peripherals, spent thousands in countless PC upgrades just to be able to run FS, joined the VATSIM online flying community, been amazed by the quality of payware addons from the likes of PMDG and Orbx and even got my real PPL. After 20 years of being an incredibly loyal c…

Please remember, as much as you might hate it or love it, READ THE TERMS OF USE. The very first 2 points are:1. Do not take photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Beta software.2. Do not post photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Beta software on any venue. There are 14 points altogether, and read the final word...Violations of these Terms of Use and Nondisclosure Agreement may result in being banned from the beta and/or legal action.Don't be a boofhead and start posting screenshots just because you don't like what you see and need your ego stroked.

I don't get it. i'm sorry, I truly don't. this game is FREE and you're all complaining!?if the whole world, plus extra aircraft costs $-100 it'd still be the same as buying another release of FS (FSX costed me $100AU when it first came out)I bet you people wouldn't complain if the game cost $-$100 if it came with all the worlds scenery...

  6. Ok there have been bigger news stories today, but lost in translation is the superb set of screenshots Microsoft delivered for the January 2012 set.Screenshot 1 - External Icon A5Beautiful rendition of the soon to be released Icon A5 showing delightful lighting and crisp accuracy and detail on the landclass and textures - better than anything I've seen before outside photoreal scenery. Just look at the accuracy of the grass and river!Screenshot 2 - Cockpit Icon A5Clean lines and outstanding design - you just know the lighting will work everywhere in this fully realised reflective plush cockpit. A real joy to behold and a lot of fun it will be to land in water and tarmac. …

When I saw the gameplay video on another site tonight, all I could think was the folks at MS look like they are competing with the lame flight games in Wii Resorts...balloons, coins in the sky dtc. When I want a flying challenge, that is not what I'm looking for...Colin

Hey guys, someone had to deliver the bad news... I'm sure Tom feels much the same as we do, in alot of ways. But we need to say thanks for him being the one to provide us with this forum, and the information we have here today! Many of us, tried to point out, what was obvious to us, while others were in wishful thinking mode, and I can't blame them one bit. I love FS too!But while FLIGHT is dead to many of us.There is a bright side to this coin!FSX will still be here and has many years of good life left in it!XP10 is out, P3D is out and Aerosoft has their FS coming soon.We will get over this hump. Just not int he way MS was thinking we would.Let MS build FLIGHT for the Xbox…

Sorry that my first post has to be so negative but as a long time flight enthusiaist I felt the urge to finally signup for one of these forums and post my thoughts on this upcoming Flight title. If I understand correctly they will start out by giving you free access then charge for addons whether that be new areas or new airplanes? I have never been one to endorse DLC and refuse to pay for it. IMO much of the availbale DLC on the market currently is things that should have been included in the original game. If Microsoft thinks that this sort of pay to play method is a good idea, I have bad news for them at least from my standpoint - nickle and dime me and crash and …

  12. We already know Microsoft will have microtransactions for scenery, airplanes, and airplane liveries. What else will there be microtransactions for?Pilot clothes & accessories?Fuel?Seasonal textures?Weather options?GPS add-on?Turbo charger?Vortex generators?Other aircraft mods?Seems to me they are going the route of Rise of Flight. You can now purchase a scarf for your pilot in ROF. No kidding.

These are questions i would want to know about, will there be traffic in the skies and will there be any kind of ATC? Going to be very lonely flying around without any radio chatter or seeing other aircraft in the air. If there is traffic i'm guessing it will be consisting of 2-3 aircraft that come with it free. Another question to ask: if Flight takes up to 30GB of space what would the United States or even the world take up? That is if the U.S and other parts are just as detailed as Hawaii might be. Myself, will probably just download and give it a try and wait and see what happens during the rest of 2012 to see what is added.

First let me say that I am looking forward to MS Flight. I think it will be be a fun mini-sim, and I look forward to some Hawaiian GA flying sometime soon. But this recent announcement makes me pause and reflect that the amazing journey of constant improvement that we have seen in the flight simulator series is over. I first flew FS on an IBM XT in 1983 (microsoft's v1), and also had the sublogic C64 version around the same time.Every time a version since then has been released, it has been a clear evolutionary step. The sim community has known what it wants, and it has generally got at least part of this with each new release (even if we complain about what's not there!)…

  19. This works with any corporate decision, read in it's entirety for a good laugh. The Plan to develop and publish FlightIn the beginning was The Plan (Flight). And then came The Assumptions. And The Assumptions were without form. And The Plan was without substance. And a terrible darkness fell upon the face of the Aces team. And they spoke amongst themselves, saying "It is a crock of crap, and it stinks."And the Aces Team went unto their Supervisors and said loudly, "It is a bucket of dung, and we cannot live with the smell."Whereupon the Supervisors went unto their Managers and didst say, "It is a container of excrement, and it is very strong, such that none may abide by it."Th…

  20. We hope the freebee Flight works for MS as an introductory platform until they finally realize their mistake. They, then, will reopen the gates of global scenery for around $ or even $100 first adding 100 top airports (FSX last was 40 so they repent themselve to us by adding 60 more new ones) for free (meaning: included on the price). They get it finally and start selling Airports and Aircrafts top of the line made on Windows Live. Third party developers go nuts and happy like MS just reinvented the wheel by adding the projects into the mix. We all play along and pretend we are happily surprised.End of fairy tale,MAB

    1. A chance for Google to compete DIRECTLY with MS ?2. Perhaps Google can incorporate/combine Flightgear and Google Earth ?3. A possible breathing room for X-plane and perhaps a chance to offer a more traditional alternate to the MS marketing model ?What the heck is going on with Google anyway - has it lost it's edge generally ?

  22. Dear MicrosoftMany of us have enjoyed and come to love the Flight Simulator franchise for decades. It has brought us thousands of hours of joy and become a large part of our lives. Before you transform it into World of Warcraft of the sky and totally take away any dignity we have left just let it die. Before you release something with sky coins, power ups, group teleportation devices, and quests, just let it die. Before you turn a once proud title into an arcade game, just let it die. Before you release character design interfaces that allow us to choose the color of our eyes and the size of our biceprs, include sexy copilots with big bosoms, a point system and levels…

I just LOVE extremely dense autogen, specially trees. That's why I hardly ever leave PNW: even other Orbx regions don't do it for me (all those barren mountains...). I just read in an editorial article the following:"You can see for miles and the trees are fully populated as far as you can see. In past games, the trees were added when they came within a certain range, creating a popping effect that was jarring and completely unrealistic to gamers. Now the visuals are much better."Maybe I am going to LOVE Flight...! ^_^What I mean to say is: don't get too ###### (or too excited) before you've actually tried the FREE (!!!) version. :( My first reaction was 'Bummer' but now …

Just out of curiousity, when AVSIM wentto look at the product some time ago, was there any mention made that this was unlikely to be of much interest to the people who frequented the site?I have to wonder if Microsoft really felt this product would appeal to the long-time flight sim enthusiasts.
