I believe that MS is doing the right things with the free FLIGHT.Take a deep breath and really thing about it1. A new sim is good for the everyone.2. FLIGHT is scalable , both regarding sceneries and airplanes3. FLIGHT is based on a modern 3D engine4. FLIGHT will introduce new simmers to the flightsim arena5. FLIGHT will just be better and better with every new addon6. FLIGHT can be developed further according to the market demands7. FLIGHT will introduce both commercial and free addons8. What is the third develpoers saying about microsoft flight? It seems very sad to know that these developers work so hard for the customers of fsx, and now it seems they won't make any money. But I would like to know what's there reaction will they force them to do a box version?

If you're fortunate enough to know someone who knows someone you get a good look at what Flight is and isn't. I think we're pretty clear on what Flight isn't and that horse has been beaten to death. That is pretty bad, but if that were all, it would be easy to move on. The shame is not in not what Microsoft did do, but what they didn't do and that's really what is a pity. What they DID do is optimize FLIGHT for far better performance that you can get in FSX. Some people say that Flight might get people interested in FSX. I thought that too for a while, however, when I think about it some more, I don't think it is going to happen. Why not? Because Flight is aimed at people who wnat to install something and then play it. Period.Imagine someone installing Flight and playing it. I remember when FS98 was released many of us imported all of our addons into Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator because it had better performance and looked nicer, even though it really wasn't meant for that. Seeing as Flight is nothing more than an optimized version of FSX, even with the severe crippling of the ability to import addons into it unless it comes from Live, it is pretty depressing. That said, do any developers think it is possible to "jailbreak" Flight so we get the engine and simply import addons into it? This would be like jailbreaking an Apple or Android phone. Don't know much yet about Mac OS', but I get the sense their basic architecture seems more stable and less crash prone. I understand they don't have nearly the reliance on inclusion of so many dll's and other essentials that tie in applications to the OS/hardware. Because of this there is more reliance on the developer to publish the app essentially w/ all it needs. No registry! There are major architectural differences between the platforms, but I don't think this in any way precludes building a super stable core application that 3rd party devs could write for that would give end users broad customization controls, as we see in FSX. Hi AllFrom what I have seen so far from what has been posted, pictures and videos, official and non official is that Flight seems to be like the airplane version of Take on Helicopters or Test Drive Unlimited 2 from Atari where you got to do missions and drive cars around Hawaii or the island of Ibiza and pay for DLC content, more cars etc and a casino addon etc etc. Take on Helicopters from what I have seen has areas you can fly around with and do missions and tasks with so in a way its not really that much different to Flight.
