Just an observation, but it seems like so many developers are shying away from the idea of creating a new flight simulator-- usually due to money, resources, other costs/time. I get that, but on the other hand, you have developers like Xplane, DCS (their A-10 and Blackshark), Thirdwire simulations and Flightgear simulator all created on minimal budgets by teams of anywhere from one to a handful of people (Flightgear being an all volunteer group). What if just a new simulator world/environment was created with maybe one basic plane? Let the third parties create the airplanes, traffic, weather, landclass/textures and scenery. I mean these third party companies are alread…

I have to say that since the news of MS Flight was announced, I spend more time on Avsim (and some other forums) then in FSX... This afternoon I finally started a flight with the PMDG 737NGX but I stopped when I was at cruise altitude because I was curious what had been posted on Avsim in the meantime. It's great reading about FSX, MS Flight, P3D, Aerofly FS... These are great times for flightsimming... but the simming itself seems to have become less important. Everytime I start up my PC to do a flight with the RV-7a above PNW I first have a look at this forum... and before I know it my time is up and I haven't done any flying at all... :wink:So I wondered: are there any…

Considering that MSGS is looking to hire someone to take charge of SDK development and documentation, that bodes well for the potential extensibility of MS Flight... :( https://careers.microsoft.com/JobDetails.aspx?ss=&pg=1&so=&rw=1&jid=29189&jlang=

We've had Flight alpha code running in-house for well over a year; about 25 of our team installed a few builds. We've been talking to MS for over two years about Flight.I have to apologise to this whole forum because I sent Alain Needle a PM about a year ago since he was pestering me so much. And I let him know a little too much info. Oops, you guys have suffered for that lapse, sorry.Long story short, we spent a lot of time working with MS on white papers and looked at the code, gave them copies of all our products, told them how to do it right. They even used screenshots of our 1S2 Darrington in their mission dialog boxes, so they must have installed our scenery into F…

This morning I uninstalled the Flight! beta.I do not want to be a part of this fiasco.I am totally disappointed with what has happened to this great title, one of the few pieces of code that microsoft have produced that had the ability to win hearts and minds.Back to FSX for me, with one eye on what happens with Xplane, and you can be sure that if I go with Xplane in the future it will be on Linux.Saddened by the direction Microsoft have taken and I worry about where this company will be in five years.

Hi guys,Does anyone still remember Simcity 4? I'm kind of thinking that history is repeating itself.1) Simcity 4 launches in 2003 and while it's a commercially successful game, it's losing steam against other EA mainstay titles like The Sims.2) EA launches Simcity Societies, a dumbed down version of Simcity which enraged hardcore fans of the series.3) Simcity Societies is moderately successful an expansion pack is produced, but not successful enough for EA to produce a sequel. The Simcity franchise technically 'died',4) Monte Cristo decided to come in and create City Life and CIties XL, while they were OK games they weren't popular with either the hardcore or the casual c…

Here's a quote from Tom and some other general ramblings :)"I said it earlier and am not sure that it might of slipped by un-noticed...Freeware won't exist in FLIGHT as far as I can tell. Also, I would venture to guess that liveries, such as United, BA, Lufthanza, etc. will have gone the way of the dodo. MS won't want to sign up for licensing, and won't assume the liability of accepting unlicensed a/c from others. "As Tom mentions here,, I was also wondering how many missed his comment quoted above and what your opinions are?I'm a long time MS sim flyer, started with FS98---> all the way FSX. Bought everyone and a boatload of addons. So, my point?Did we all start buying…

Maybe if we all go set up our tents on the Microsoft Redmond campus, we can invoke a change in Flight. We can huddle in groups-- the FSX guys on one side and the FS9 guys on the other side. We can setup a network and sip on hot chocolate while we play flight sim. Maybe a group of Xplane guys will come and beat the drums for us. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_CokeCompany headquarters in Atlanta started receiving letters expressing anger or deep disappointment. Over 400,000 calls and letters were received by the company, including one letter, delivered to Goizueta, that was addressed to "Chief Dodo, The Coca-Cola Company". Another letter asked for his autograph, as the signature of "one of the dumbest executives in American business history" would likely become valuable in the future. The company hotline, 1-800-GET-COKE, received 1,500 calls a day compared to 400 before the change. A psychiatrist Coke hired to listen in on calls told executives some people sounded as if they were discussing the …

All this fuss about flight simulation software suffering from bloat... hundreds of MB for a safe and solid installation? Why, I made an IFR flight simulation that uses only 18 Kilobytes. 18,459 Bytes to be exact... What's more it is perfectly scalable vector graphics, so it will fit on any screen size without jaggies. You can even fly aerobatics with it and the "flying machine" is safe and crash proof - just let go of the controls and it self levels.Don't believe? See the world's lightest flight simulator here:http://eagleskinner.com/ESgalleries.htm499$ seems like a good price, anyone want a copy?

Here’s a list of fictitious, but funny lawsuits that we’ll see next year. Disclaimer: It’s only humor folks, don’t bite. We could all use a laugh.Lawsuit # 1 – Nintendo sues Microsoft for Patent Infringement.Kyoto, JAPAN – Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced today that his company was suing Microsoft Corporation of Redmond, WA for patent and copyright infringement. He said that the lawsuit was in response to how closely Microsoft’s new flying game, called Flight, emulated the look and feel of Nintendo’s Pilotwings Resort product. In a translated statement, Mr. Iwata said, “Actually, the kids like our product better because it’s more fun and in 3D.” He then add…

Last year I had particular hopes and expectations for Flight, as most of you did. Subsequent to the January press release, the only thing that came as a real surprise to me was that the core game would be free (I had expected it might be a $19.95 download or similar). The hopes that I held were reasonably high, since I have seen how the level of immersiveness and accessibility in games has improved considerably over the last few years, let alone the graphical advances. Although I am not a beta tester, I fully anticipated that videos and screenshots would be leaked over the net, despite the NDA.Having looked at these, I have to say that I my impressions have exceeded those …

I hope that MS suits are following the outrage from the simmers and not just the Xbox fans. It's clear to me at they should offer 2 versions of Flight and dare I say price the PRO version higher to allow 3rd party addons and the extras we expect from a sim.

Why don't you send them an email and tell them exactly how you feel.... remember to ask that your message be forwarded to the suits upstairs who are responsible for this mess.I will donate $25.00 to AVSIM for the first person that sends them an email and receives a reply.

A lot of people on here are kicking up a Fuss over flight and refusing to try it... ITS FREE FOR GODS SAKE?In the long run exposing the flight sim world to newer people may be better as gaining exposure to Flight will inevitably make newcomers want more once they get into it. If all goes well flight may well evolve into the sim we have all been hoping for... However trying to kill off the game will NOT make Microsoft think "Hey, Maybe we should revive the Flight Sim series" it will lead them to give up on the genre for good. I just see so many users hating flight with a passion and making lame jokesI reckon flight is the gateway to a new generation. Trying to pick up a ne…
