Hi folks, having tried some of MSE's products, I really liked them and will be having an install of just photo scenery + some airports based FSX (as well as another install in parallel with other types like orbx, etc). Anyway, since I will be buying a whole lot of it, and I want to have it installed in my sim, and as I have also been reading the AVSIM config guide, I found this small section mentioning it: Photoscenery - If you own a lot of add-on photoscenery, such as from Orbx/FTX, Aerosoft, MegaSceneryX, MegaSceneryEarth, Tile Proxy, or Blue Sky, you should know that these products will all install in the background even though you may be using only one…

Since there have been recent changes by Dovetail in the way FSX:SE handles scenery loading / unloading and given that DX10 passes textures more to the GPU, assuming one is running Steve's DX10 Fixer is it better to run in DX10 mode with photo scenery such as Horizons GenX, or stick to DX9 when using FSX: SE ? Does anyone recommend best settings in either DX10 or DX9, when using FSX Steam, to best help loading photo textures to maintain sharpest texture tiles given a low end system? I currently have autogen turned off to maximise resources for texture loading. My lowly system specs are: AMD PhenomII quad core 2.6 CPU XFX GforceGTX 260 2gbyte graphic card 8 Gbyte RA…

We all know that photo scenery takes up vast amount of space. But what are the impacts on photo scenery performance depending on what type of drive we chose to store all those gigabytes of scenery on? I’ve once more looked into that and these are my updated findings: The first column shows texture loading, which basically is how long time it takes for FSX to load the ground textures to full sharpness, so a lower value means that you can fly faster before your ground textures start to go blurry. The second column shows how long time it takes to load a flight. You can also see the performance at different relevant affinitymasks. The affinitymask also makes…

Here's my situation. I'm using megescenery earth - Chicago, along with several states. The states work fine during both daytime and at night. The Chicago scenery - only at night - city lights are not "turned on." Basically, when I take off from O'Hare and head toward the city, most ground light is in the distance. There should be city/suburban lights everywhere. It's Chicago afterall. And just to prove it to myself, I deselected the addon scenery, and the lights were everywhere - as you would expect. Now, with Megascenery turned on, as I approach an area that is lit up, before I get there, it goes dark. It looks ridiculous when you see a lit up building in the mi…

I'm currently installing the full set of Horizon GenX Photo scenery but I'm a little confused as to the correct order of items in the scenery library. I was under the impression that 3D objects and airports should take priority, followed by scenery in descending order of detail, with the terrain mesh last. But several volumes are putting the airports last and sometimes the night scenery below the terrain mesh. What is the preferred order, please, or doesn't it matter?

Perhaps the main problem with MSE is that it doesn´t have night textures. I find this worst than not having 3d buildings. How do we solve this problem ? Is there some other software which put lights over MSE scenery in the cities and roads ? I tried FTX global, doesn´t work, BTW, after we use some kind of photoreal scenery, it´s difficult to goback and use things like FTX again, all cities look alike...In Prepar3Dv2, city lights are even brighter than with FTX Global.

Hi chaps, Let me first tell you what I've worked out so far about this topic, then I'll ask for your advice. So, nightlighting over photoscenery adds massively to the immersion. I fly a broad range of photoscenery, in P3D v2.5 exclusively now but previously in FSX. The world has changed a little of late, with a number of new night-lighting options available. Let's start by clarifying that we're talking about photoscenery with no intrinsic night lighting effects here (unlike ultimate VFR or the old megascenery v1). So we'd be talking about MSE2 or home-made photoscenery predominantly. There's a 2013 thread on this topic for FSX, but everyone seems to ha…

I have installed the beautiful photoscenery freeware by Bluesky as well as the afcad updates it includes so the airport sits correctly over the scenery. The only issue I am having is at airport with control towers, it is showing two of them one next to another, and sometimes different. Is there a quick fix to this?

Hi, I'm a virgin to photoscenery; never having been interested due to the lack of autogen / 3D. However I have just picked up the full set of 3x Horizon VFR Photosceneries v2.0 for the UK, locally from Gumtree for £5  .... and also picked up Treescapes in the Earth Simulations sale. Can anyone give me any basic advice on any changes to the FSX.CFG (or anything else) that could help display this type of scenery as best as possible? I normally have MAXTEXTURELOAD set to 1024, as I'm not normally bothered about HD; should that value be increased when using this product? Any other tips? Many thanks in advance.

My question is about 'stacking' a hi-res city scenery on top of a Megascenery 2.0 state. Will that cause a significant increase in memory demand - or not? OOM crashes are already too much of a concern.

So as I've been getting more into this, and learning about all the different elements that make up our sim world, I've reached a pretty good understanding of the different elements, products and addons that make up scenery in FSX. Enter photoreal. I've looked at a several products, among them "MegaSceneryEarth" which I am sure you're all familiar with, and read through numerous posts about the good and bad, its lovers and detractors... As I will be starting out with GA planes, I've been told photoscenery is great for it, until you hit certain heights (different for different folks and products) and go below that, where it's blurry flatland... Staying foc…

After the download which I did manually, I took off from KGNC ( Grand Canyon Airport ) and the first thing I noticed was snow on the ground. Well we all know that snow will not be visable with photo scenry. So I took a look at my files and compared MegaEarth Ohio with MegaEarth Crand Canyon and the difference is in Ohio there's a " scenry " file and none in the Grand Canyon. In the Scenry Configurator, I did have to add Grand Canyon after the download, but it does have a check mark next to it. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance.

MSE2 offers some really good photo-scenery for the US, but what they offer for Europe leaves a lot of room for improvement. So far only France VFR and Austria HD offer decent scenery for particular parts of Europe. A few months ago someone mentioned here on avsim here in the photo-scenery forum that there is excellent photo-scenery for Italy available. And the best thing is, it is all free!! It has taken me three days to download the whole shebang and a few days ago I took my first flight in Northern Italy. Boy oh boy, what a fantastic sight. It does not only come in superb, real to life colors, no it even covers a fairly large part of Switzerland, part of France …

Hello all, a plea for help, would some kind soul point me in the right direction. I am getting a CTD when flying near Prestwick and this seems to be caused by a faulty tile in Playsims/Horizon VFRGenX Vol 8 photoscenery. I have tried Playsims and Horizon websites and emailed support as advised on the (holding) webpage. All with no reply/success. Does anybody know where I can download the Horizon quickfixes? I am especially interested in Vol 8 but I understand there are fixes for other volumes also. Thanks in advance Gordon

I just got Mega scenery Washington and Oregon. I also have Mega city Portland OR. I've notice that some of the airports don't line up with the scenery. I start FSX at Pacific City OR KPFC. When I look done, the sceneries airport is off with fsx. Shouldn't they be the same? I use ADE for my afcads and could adjust the airport to the scenery. Any one noticed this with any of the Mega sceneries?

I have been looking for a good alternative to my MegaScenery NorCal scenery to use in FSX for months and thought my only hope was waiting for ORBX.However, just today I found Blue Sky Scenery! Unfortunately it looks like their files are unavailable to due megaupload being shut down... :( Looks like I discovered them just a couple weeks too late!Does anyone happen to know when their scenery might be back up? Or is it by any chance (legally) hosted anywhere else? Thanks!

Hello. I'm hoping someone can help me out with an issue I seem to be having using the BlueSky Photo Sceneries. I'm trying to get these to work in FS9 in a system that should be able to handle them just fine. The problem is that after a few minutes (sometimes less) in an area where these are things stop getting rendered and everything turns really blurry. The system is a Win 7 64-bit Core 2 Duo 3 GHz with 6 GB of RAM and a GTX 750 1 GB video card. I know these sceneries for large areas have been put in lesser systems and am told they work just fine but I can't figure out why I can't get them to run better. I'd appreciate all ideas you might have to hel…

I've just installed MSE Belgium and Netherlands and my FSX crashes whenever I fly anywhere near St Hubert AB (EBSU). Has anyone else experienced this, please? I'm a pensioner with only a basic computer knowledge, so I haven't a clue how to solve this! Thank you.
