Photo Scenery Support Forum

Are you a Photo Scenery enthusiast? This forum is a user-to-user support forum for freeware/commercial photo-real scenery such as the scenery published by MegaSceneryX.

  1. I've been using VFR generation X photo scenery for a while but I've been annoyed at some of the erroneous terrain mesh provided. By purchasing FS Global Ultimate I was hoping it would be able to display the abnormalities in a better way but unfortunately it seems to be using the same erroneous source data. This is a erroneous fault line just west of Balmoral castle in the Scottish highlands in VFR gen X. This is the same view using FS Global ultimate terrain mesh. As you can see, they're both the same. Another error in the mesh that's always annoyed me is the one of Sumburgh head. Unfortunately FS global Ultimate Is the same as VFR gen X and both are way o…

  2. Hi Everyone: Does anyone know if there are night textures included in the Mega Scenery Ultra Hi Res city titles? Their screen shots are exclusively of daytime shots. And if there are night textures, are they also considered to be ultra high resolution for night as well? I have contacted the people aver at Mega Scenery and am still yet to hear back a reply. Does anyone know? Thank you. Chris Catalano

  3. Hi, guys. I was away last week, hence I missed the release of the new Austria Professional photoreal scenery and some possible discussion about it. However, my forum search did not bring up any results, so I thought I might start this topic. I wonder how those of you who have bought this product like it. I mean, I like the idea of photoreal scenery, especialy since Austria is my home country, and IMO it's beautiful here. However, I have seen some discussion over at Aerosoft, where some guy said he is not impressed by it at all (well, at least partially because he thought that there were winter textures included, I don't really mind that it's daytime/summer only), and…

Just beginning to install FSX from FS9 what a job, anyway I like Blue Sky Scenery and am also buying MSE v2, my question is there away to tell were MSE tiles are placed in the state, I really don't need the whole state installed just were BSS doesn't cover, hoping to save a little HD space. Thank you all for a great forum. Ken

Hi all, I have a rather odd problem with MSE SOCAL..I think You can see in the pic at KRNM (excuse the split screens) there is what looks like a bad attempt at enhancing the runway. Its white and the glider has the wheels sunk into it. I methodically went through my scenery library and eventually got to MSE Socal. Disable MSE and the airport returns to Normal. I did this several times to make sure that its 100% MSE thats causing it Inside MSE Socal there is an airport BGL named KRNM-RAMONA I disabled it and its not the culprit Why would MSE Socal be causing this effect? doesn't sound right to me at all. Any ideas anyone?

I tried LOD at 6.5 and MSE manual says try at least 7.5. At 6.5 I get OOM error almost immediately so I went back to 4.5 with no OOM. The problem is the textures looks HORRIBLE. Super blurry and still take quite some time to load. This is above 4000 feet as well. I read that under that they won't be very sharp. I tried lowering TML from 4096 to 2048 but then my PMDG textures don't load correctly because they use 4096. I hope I didn't waste a bunch of money on this photoscenery because they pics looked great on the site but not in my FSX. '

I read in the manual to turn autogen to off but I only have 8 states and one hi res city of photo scenery. How do I manage when I am flying over other areas that aren't photo realistic?

  10. I was wondering if anyone has encountered a similar problem to this one. I'm using Generation X Version 3 UK photo-scenery that had been running reasonably happily on my less than ideal system for several months. Then, attempting to fly from Glasgow to Benbecula I am surprised to find the geography of the Western Isles significantly rearranged. Large lumps of land appear to be floating off into the North Minch. I also notice that other areas that should be water are filled with random tiles of land. These land tiles might change to water as the flight continues but might also be swapped for other land tiles and tiles that have turned from land to water might turn b…

I have some MSE v2 states but I am wondering what would a good realistic night lighting add on payware that works well with fsx default and photoscenery and not too hard on the system. I emailed MSE about possible release of their night lighting but nobody ever responded back and personally the lighting looks horrible in MSE at night. I was flying over MSE California over LAX and there is so many patches of light and no light. A power plant is partially lit up and the other part of it is not. Many issues and who knows when the release will be of night scenery from MSE. I read that once all the USA is done they would start working on night.

I downloaded the zip files and install manager to a folder. I ran the installer and it put the exe files in the folder. Can I move the exe files to an external drive and not have it plugged in? I just bought a 1 TB internal drive and the scenery is taking up ALOT of space.

Hi, I’ve recently gotten into flight sim, I’m using an add-on called TileProxy. I usually fly out of CSS3 and the issue I had was that the FSX airport was misaligned compared to the TileProxy Scenery. I’ve used FSX Planner to relocate the airport but I’ve must a messed up because the airport is too far south. When I tried to move it back again, it didn’t work. I also tried putting back the original BGL file for this airport APX182150.bgl back in FSX’s scenery directory but to no avail. Would you gladly offer a suggestion? Thanks JD

  14. Started by Kuragiman,

I have seen a few threads on a few other boards about Ultimate Terrain X and MegaSceneryEarth working together. Does anyone have any example photos of what this looks like? The general response is that yes, you can use both at the same time, but you have to order them right and you will lose a lot of features of UTX but get the night lighting system of UTX. Is that the extent of the compatibility? Maybe PC Avivator can shed some final light on this. I really want to be able to enhance night flying with MSE products since they have very limited night light texture support. Anyone have some screen caps to show off these two products working in tandum?

Using 50cm/pixel photoscenery + openVFR Autogen, is really starting to look great. Look closely and you'll see real-world placed houses, 3d objects, and trees thanks to the openVFR.

Now I love MSE2 Washington State, but I'd like an explanation of this supposed 50cm/pixel source advertisement. It's is clearly not 50cm/pixel source. I mapped a very small portion south of Seattle from Bing maps at a resolution of 1 meter/pixel, which should be less quality than the advertised 50cm source from MSE2. However, what we see is clearly not the case. Being just south of Seattle, this should all be high quality scenery. Perhaps Sim Savvy can explain since he's the maker.

And a little comparison to ORBX and MSE2. I have more but limited to a total of 4MB. Just a few hundred feet of the ground. Sure MSE2 is blurred due to the lower rez count, but there's something I like about their texturing.

MSE V2 just announced Ultra-Re Cities Which is good news..I think. .I was wanting something like this rather than an entire state. some states I want entire state but I wanted it complimented with something like the Mega cities which we used to have. My Fav old mega city is Phoenix and DFW. But the bummer is, I did not see anything about night textures nor autogen. Although this is high resolution " While current states are made up mostly of 50 cm source data resampled to 1 meter, Ultra-Res Cities are not resampled and are displayed at 50 cm (or better if higher resolution imagery is available)." I hope PCaviator would see the wisdom of putting some effort…

I have noticed today that megascenery earth takes up a lot of space on my hard drive. I have 3 states and that is 150GB of memory. I have a external hard drive that uses USB hook up. Am I able to put scenery and other FSX files on that and keep it plugged in or would that not work. I never realized how much memory FSX takes with add ons. I have over 300 GB of memory used in FSX and add ons. If there is a way to separate some files onto the external that would be great. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  21. I created a new thread to post some Orbx screenshots to demonstrate Orbx's use of PR tech. If I have time, I may do a three-way comparison of some areas (Orbx vs. TP vs. MSE 2), but not right now. I am just focusing on Orbx screenshots at first. Orbx is a strange breed in certain areas as they mix True PR, some PR, tiled PR (fake but real), and autogen together. Sometimes it works very well, and sometimes it does not. This is the starter post, but I will get some better ones as I come across them during flying. Let me grab some Stewart shots. Here are some of the Good's and Bad's of Orbx Photo-Real: GOOD (Missoula) Blends in nicely overall and everything work…

  22. Hello, I am a pilot student flying out of Van Nuys (KVNY) and Camrillo (KCMA). I bought this software for FSX thinking it would be a good tool to practice since I was thinking by flying VFR, it is important to recognize highways etc... But I am very disappointed. My PC is recent i7 with 16Gb of RAM. Two EGVA GTX 670. Three monitors 1920x1080. SSD with plenty of space available. I usually fly from 1000 to 3000 ft. No matter what setup I did, the scenery is flat and boring and pretty ugly. And also the Hollywood sign is missing! And the Griffith Observatory is sooooooooooooooo flat that it looks like a pancake after a sumo sat on it LOL. Anyway tonight I ju…

I'll have to say I'm a tad bit impressed with TP. Since reading the Nevada thread, I decided to install this Tileproxy thing, set it to Bing maps and 30 cm scenery, and did just a couple comparison shots with my MSE2 Washington scenery. Need more time with it, but very nice, on par with MSE2. I let you decide which you prefer...

Since this is on sale, I'm considering it. I currently use Blue Sky Scenery for photoreal coverage of quite a bit of the US southwest, but they have limited coverage of Nevada, and when flying jets out of NAS Fallon, you run out of photoreal really quickly if you fly in any direction but south. However, is there anyone willing to share any opinions on this? Decent quality? Flaws? Any mis-matched colours? I've never used any MSE stuff before.

I have FTX Global but I just found something by a company called Mega scenery called photo scenery. It looks pretty awesome and it appears to get rid of all auto gen stuff though which I am not sure is good or bad? Does anybody have any experience with this scenery and if you do which was better the photo scenery or the scenery with the autogen? Are they compatible with FTX Global?
