I will soon be building my first PC (primarily for use of FSX). When I look on Amazon, I am confused as to which version of Windows 7 to get? The two versions that I see are Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (Full) System Builder DVD 1 Pack ($99.99) verses Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium ($189.99). Any Suggestions? Thank You.

I don't think it makes a difference, except when I start up FSX I don't get the little annoying color scheme box. Any thoughts?

Dear All,I run FSX on my 120 GB SSD (btw: in the default location) under W7 Home Premium 64bit. The company that build the computer one year ago installed W7 on the SSD. I use this computer exclusivly for FSX and two other sims (racing - that are installed on the HDD). After installing most of my add-ons (on the SSD) I face the situation that only less than 15 GB remain. That is not much. Do you think it would be a reasonable idea to transfer W7 (including all related stuff like virus scanner, etc) to the HDD (1 TB) and to have (only) FSX on the SSD? Or would this cause problems? This would mean to a) transfer all (down load add-on-)files from the HDD to a network computer…

Yesterday after receiving my newly minted copy of FS2004 from Amazon I tried to install it on my new laptop which is equiped with Windows 7 Home and a i5 core processor. Well everything appeared to go swimmingly until we got to the 77% completed area when it stalled on the Amster.cab file on disk 4 and there it just hung up while CD ROM continued to spin away. I waited a considerable time for a load but nothing changed and I eventually aborted the installation, I tried this process three times each with same result .Does anyone have a clue as to what may be the cause of this, I sure would appreciate some direction. This is 64 bit OS with 6 GB of RAM. Thanks in A…

I got a big problem here, the Windows 7 x64 OS isn't recognizing the 8GB RAM that I have installed. I'm stuck on 3.49GB RAM as if it is a 32-bit system. Both Memtest86+ and Windows XP x64 is recognizing the 8GB RAM, but somehow not Windows 7 x64. This looks like an OS issue rather than a hardware issue. (RAM is tested and it is working) I heard about a BIOS fix but i couldn't find any more information.

I'm stuck in REX since I can't point to where my fsx.cfg is located. Searching for fsx.cfg reveals that it is located in the Appdata folder. But I see no such directory listed under users//. How can i prevent Win 7 from preventing me from doing what I wan't. That is being able to open all folders under users/ /?

I have a hdd with win7 pro 32 bit on it which will not run the pmdg 737 ngx. So I have purchased another oem of win7 pro 64 bit. Should the update/upgrade be seamless or will I have to install many programs again? This drive also has all my fsx installations (many add-ons). I really don't want to lose them. Jon Shearer

Hello, I am currently running FSX on Win 7 64-bit. I am experiencing a problem that comes in the way of manually installing liveries in the Aircraft.cfg files. So here's what happens. I can open the aircraft.cfg files and copy the textures, but when I add the "[FLTSIM.(number)]" entries into the CFG, and I attempt to save the file, it says "access is denied" and I therefore have to save to My Documents and copy and paste the CFG file into the aircraft file. I am an administrator on my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Using Win7 x64 and got a glitch... When I select either the Devices and Printers, My Network or Bluetooth Devices option from either the Start button OR the control panel, the PC scan never finishes and nothing shows. Just an empty window. Tried rolling back Windows several times but doesn't help. I desparately need to connect to my mobile phone that does not have USB:-( Any ideas what might cause this or how to fix it?

A friend has a Gigabyte GA EP35C DS3R mo/bo and E8400CPU which I have been trying to help him overclock. He can set up a 400MHz CPU clock in the BIOS, the PC boots and runs and the POST screen shows the CPU running at 400 clock. However when he looks at the computer properties under Win7 it shows the CPU running at a stock 333 clock, CPUZ also shows this stock speed.Anyone any idea why the BIOS accepts the overlcock but it is not shown under Win7 and FSX does not show any increase in frame rates?I have the same mo/bo and CPU and mine has a similar overclock and the 400 clock speed is shown under Win7 and CPUZ and there is an increase in FSX performance.I have built my own …

Hi guys.So on my new build I decided to go with the full license of Windows 7 instead of the OEM because I might as well upgrade parts later and I didn't want to rebuy Windows.Every 6 months to 1 year I like to do a "fresh up" on my computer, meaning I reinstall Windows (or on my old Dell, "Restore to Factory Settings") to start fresh and clean. How do I do this on my custom build computer? Do I just save all my stuff then restart the computer with the Windows 7 disc inside of it then delete the partition? Thanks.

Where is my FSX Folder?Running on an i5 Windows 7 / 64 bit.I have been happily simming on FS9 for many years. I do own FSX and have recently installed it on my computer.I have my HD partitioned with FS9 and FSX installed on Drive E. ( not in Program files or x86.)My trouble is I cannot find my FSX folder. Where could it be? FS9 is there. I can fly in FSX by opening it through a shortcut on the desktop. But I need to direct some programmes to the FSX folder (in particular the driver for my CP Flight MCP) but nothing shows for it.When I go to” All Programs”/ Microsoft Games - it only shows FS2004When I go to “Programs and Features” it doesn’t show as being installed. All th…

There has been talk of the following tweak back in 2010, so I thought it might be worth repeating it here. Because I feel this is so relevant to FSX users, I am Posting a short Post over there suggesting they drop by here for a look. Firstly, I am getting quite a jump in FPS (in FSX), but the whole experience is much better; smoother, hardly a stutter.I do not take any credit for the following information, but have gleaned from different Posting across the Web. It always seems to me that very often people Posting here in general think others have the same knowledge as them, and therefore do not always give a very clear step by step when explaining how to do something. …

I have looked here and aroud the web for a step by step upgrade from Home Premuin 32bit to Home Premium 64bit. There are bit and pieces of info based upon various circumstances but no definitive step by step and specific pitfalls.I have Windows 7 32bit Home Premium installed. From what I read to upgrade I need to boot from the Windows7 Home Premium 64bit DVD. I should get some question about "Custom". So I set the BIOS to boot from the 64bit DVD. It did that and I saw the white bar at the bottom saying it was loading files. It went through the loading process and began what appeared to be the normal Windows7 loading process with the Welcome screen. When it finished the sc…

Building an additional PC and want this one to be a Win7/WinXP dual boot system. Done some research but have a few questions for those who have done it.1) Is it easier to install Win XP first then Install Win7, or Win7 1st and Win XP 2nd?2) Was thinking to install Win7 on SATA drive and WinXP on seperate EIDE drive. Good? bad? Or should both be on same hard drive?3) Possible to set up only one copy of flight simulator to use with both systems or do I need two installs, one for each OS?Thx,Clutch
