Recently I switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 ( 64 bit ) and since then I noticed a dramatic longer time to open FSX. Ex: To open FSX : 1 minute To select an aircraft : 1 minute 5 sec With XP it was much faster. I use a dual core CPU plus 4 gigabyte RAM memory. It was suggested to install more memory but before doing that I am anxious to hear the opinions of other flight simmers. Mind you, once an aircraft is selected then it runs ok,about same as with my former XP. Herbert Werni

Hi, First post in a while ago here goes. I have been having trouble with Windows 7 lately with what I think is a application that keeps on running in the background sort of like a virus. I have done a few scans and can't find anything. I usually have to double click apps a few times to open them especially with Google chrome. It also means that the app may become inactive like when you switch between apps on dual screen. It doesn't close or minimise it just greys out, I'm sure you know. It also slows down the internet browser and startup speeds a four bit. Any ideas on how to fix it would be great. Thanks,

Hi folks, Please can somebody help me with these issues... I just finished reinstalling my whole FS9 setup in Windows 7 x64 and almost everything is working as it should. However, there are a couple of problems that I have not been able to solve. 1) When I switch views, the time for all textures to load up is really slow. I have set the FS9.cfg variable to TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400 but this seems to make no difference. 2) My 2D panel is riddled with flickering problems. Seems to be only on XML gauges or overlays, but there are plenty of those in my setup so it's really annoying. I have checked, and the flicker is also present in the default FS9 GPS gauge. …

Hi there, I've been running a genuine Win7 install with MSE installed since I formatted it when I received my pc. For some reason, today I got a pop-up message from MSE saying that "windows did not pass genuine validation, security essentials will become disabled in 30 days if you do not resolve this issue". It then provides a link to go online and resolve now. Is this real? I didn't even download anything recently and never disabled MSE, why the message now? Help it, please. Cheers, Pete

Hi cannot install latest Nvidia on Vista anymore. Seems it's not Grub related and no even sp1 fails to install. Sigh I need nvidia drivers on crappy Vista Uuhm also wine is no alternative as I cannot install vc++ 2008. Even the Win8 dev prev doesn't seem to allow installing directx sdk. Any ideas on how to save my tons of Fs9/FSX installed addons so I could reinstall vista? Thanks

In Koster's Software/Hardware tweaking guide (http://forum.avsim.net/topic/370594-read-before-posting-software-hardware-guide-for-fsx/) he details instructions on how to use the Vsync tweak for windowed mode users of FSX. He advises the restarting of Windows Aero mode, and suggests 3 way sof going about this from manually restarting, to the eloquent way using FSUIPC. I have chosen the in between, opting for the use of a .bat file to restart Aero and FSX to take advantage of the Vsync tweak. Although FSX is launched with my .bat file, Aero does not appear to restart. All I get is the Windows 7 message indicating that windows is running in basic mode, nothing to indicat…

I recently made the move from FS9 to FSX and as I went from a constant 60+ FPS to around 20-40 FPS I started thinking: what if Vista is causing the decrease in performance? Currently, I run Win Vista Home Basic 32-bit and on FS9 I used to get 60+FPS on my current hardware(see signature). Since I do have a copy of Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit lying around, if I upgrade to Win 7 Ultimate will I see some sort of improvement in FPS? I have already tweaked the fsx.cfg a lot to work more efficiently with my current hardware. If you want to know what kinds of addons I use, you can see my profile. If I need to upgrade to a 64-bit, will there be any changes or not? I do plan on r…

Windows7 64bit 8gb i5 2500K I can't eliminate the Hibernate function. I have set Hibernate off in the Power Options of the Control Panel but Windows insists on creating the Hibernate file. I would like a bit more disk space and this is wasting it.

I have Win 7 x64 installed on C:\ a 120G SSD drive. I had FSX installed on its own dedicated 128 Gb SSD as E:\. That drive has now failed and will have to be replaced. What do I need to do now? I can't uninstall stuff on my FSX drive since it's broken. Can I just reinstall everything on the new drive which will also be E:\ ? Or will I mess up the registry in that way ?

I am just in the process of upgrading my current system (Asus p7p55 D-le / 8GB DDR3 1600MHz, Core i5 - 750) to the following setup. Asus P8Z77 DE-luxe, 16 GB DDR3 x 1600 Mhz, Intel Core i7 - 3770K. I run Win 7 x 64 Ultimate and will continue to do so if possible. My question is - will it be possible to disconnect everything and just have the original c: Drive connected to the new components and upgrade all my hardware without having to do a fresh install of Win 7 or FSX? FSX is on a separate drive, which I will reconnect if all goes well upgrading chipset etc. (My FSX is over 200GB and I am not even sure I could find all of the original software add ons.) …

Mine appears to be here : C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\FSX\ I've seen posts saying its in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSXProgramData , but that is definately not the case! Why do people report this being in like 800 locations>? I am asking this because I am having problems with utilities such as MakeRwys.exe not picking up on changes in my C:\FSX\Addon Scenery\scenery\ which is the folder in the FSX install location that has some bgl files with updated scenery. This scenery works fine in FSX, but these 3rd party FSX utilities have problems. So to end this question once and for all, where does the official scenery.cfg belong?

My issue... OOM (FSUIPC gives me the dings that I am nearing the OOM mark and I get the window telling me to lower my settings)... This only happens when I'm on approach to an addon airport like FSDT or FB with US CitiesX.. I'm running FSX gold with accleration. System specs : W7 64bit i5 2500k OC to 4.7 and stable with prime95, temps in the 60's under load. EVGA Nvidia 560 Ti Superclocked edition with 1Gb 16Gb of HyperBlue x DDR3 1600 RAM with bios set to X M P settings (DDR3 1600 in bios instead of AUTO) Note: all apps have been closed in the back ground except what FSX needs. Been reading a lot about VAS and the 3Gb fix. But being on a 64bit and…

Hello! Looks like this is an exceptionally bad year for my simming. Lots of great addons coming but I face problems following problems. Anyway... After watching a great documentary about Lufthansa Cargo MD-11 66-day round the world trip, I decided to install my slightly dusted PMDG MD-11 for FS9 and recreate the route. The install went fine except for the fact that it forced me to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable. I didn't mind so I started the install. But then an error message jumped out: The MD-11 has been installed (as well as its patches) but no the MV 2008 files. The effect is I can operate the aircraft in the sim with no problem, …

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I just upgraded my computer to Ivy bridge I5-3570k, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, 8 GB corsair vengeance memory 1600. With this system I run FSX pretty smoothly on Vista 32bit. I'm happy with it but would like to upgrade to Windows7 64bit for compatiblility with other parts of the system as well as other programs besides FSX. My question is am I able to upgrade to 64bit without having to go through the hassle of reinstalling everything, including FSX. Is there a way to clone everything over to 64bit and let windows make the necessary adjustments so that everything on my vista 32bit works on the newer windows7 64bit.
