The Win7 OS Forum

As simmers migrate to Win 7, we are sure there are going to be numerous questions regarding the use of FS and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it.

  1. Unfortunately I have purchased an LG A520 laptop seven months ago, exclusively to boost my FSX experience, for a relatively low price (nearly $ 1000). The laptop has i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 2G Nvidia GPU, and Windows 7 64 bit OS. After two months from purchase, it started showing blue screen of physical memory dump, followed by automatic restart. The event was happening intermittently not related to any specific activities. I took it to the horrible service center and they delivered it back after "updating some outdated drivers" according to them. Two months later, same problem occurred again. I took it to the service center, along with printed screen shots from Event…

Hey guys, Whenever I run FSX I get a constant loading cursor (the one with the arrow and little blue turning thing). It started a few weeks ago and it is really starting to annoy me, and it could be the reason for fsx crashing every so often. I really don't know what is causing it, it only starts when I run fsx, and even when FSX is closed it stays. It can't be a performance issue or something because I get solid 28 FPS (locked) at ORBX YBBN in the PMDG 737. Cheers guys, Ollie P.S I had no idea where to post it so I put it here, mods feel free to move if you feel I have put my problem in the incorrect place.

Hello. I have been getting random BSOD's over the last few months when surfing the net. I have not had one when fling in FSX but since I surf more than I fly, it may just be a matter of time. I originally thought it was an issue with IE9. The crashes mostly happened when watching videos on YouTube and similar sites. I switched over to Chrome and I though all was well - YouTube worked fine. Today, I was typing a response to a thread on the TripAdvisor forums and I got a BSOD mid sentence. I guessing this has something to do with one of the ads but I am not sure where to start trouble shooting. Java and Flash Player are up to date. I know this isn't directly related…

Hey guys I’m in the middle of a major system upgrade, basically what I have is I’m replacing my processor/mobo and putting in an SSD. What I have now is i7 870 with and Intel board, what I’m getting is an i7 3770k with an Asus P8z77-v Deluxe mobo. I will have three drives, a DATA drive, a FSX drive, and the SSD will be my BOOT drive, right now I boot off my DATA drive. what I want to know is will it affect my system performance or cause any problems if I just rename my DATA drive, install windows on the SSD and move the SSD to the top of the boot priority list so it boots off the SSD and not the "old" DATA drive....sorry if that was really confusing!!! If you need …

Greetings, I am running a AMD Phenom II X2 545 CPU 3.0Ghz on a Gigabyte MB. I have 4gig DDR3 ram & a ATI HD4850 512mg video with Win XP 32bit. I run FS9 quite well. I am wanting to go to FSX eventually but my FS9 setup is very good. The question is will installing Win7 64bit be any improvement for FSX & more importantly will it hurt my FS9? I already run my FS9.exe large address aware. My understaanding is some of my older add-ons might have a problem with the 64bit OS. It seems like a lot of work. Any thoughts on the subject would be appretiated. Pat Callaghan

  8. Hi all,I had FSX running on my Windows7 32bit system for about 18 mths to 2 years with no problems at all. As you can see from my signature I have quite a few aircraft mostly carrenado and PMDG all working fine along with FEX, UTE, and GTE. So when PMDG brought out the 737 I waited a few months before deciding to buy the said add-on. The 737 worked ok but I decided it was time to upgrade to Windows7 64bit and really get the most out of my 737. That's when things started going wrong! So far I have installed FSX in C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator and also in C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have FSX deluxe and have SP1 and …

  9. I will soon need to install W7 in a new PC. Presently FSX is on a seperate HD. I know that I will need to reinstall all applications included FSX and I Suppose the add ons. On the FSX HD I have all the usual FSX libraries and all add-ons such as FS Genesis, FEX, Ultimate Terrain, My Traffic X. Can I take advantage that the FSX libraries are already up to date on the seperate HDD that will be physically transferred from old to new PC. Also true for some airplanes add-ons (Coranedo, the Twin Otter, and another one) ? Roger

Hi all, I have an older system, see specs on my sig, however just want to know if I will gain or at least see the same performance with FS9 moving to Windows 7 64bit from XP 32bit. I would like to play some BF3 and I know XP wont run it. But my pride and joy is always my flight sim. So I rather ask and see what you guys thing. I cant increase the memory on my system since 2gigs is the max it can take. I have heard of some folks being able to get 4 gigs on it getting some workaround with volatage via the bios. But I dont think Im going to mess with that stuff. Just want my sim to perform better, or at least not worse than XP 32bit. Thanks, Bill

Note: You may want to reference my post, "Sound has a mind of its own!" posted by me yesterday on the MS FSX Forum. There I made my first attempt to attach screenshots with poor success. With Windows XP 64 bit, I had "Microsoft Photo Editor" which I used for resizing screen shots to an acceptable size for AvSim attachements (700 pixels width). This has worked for me in years past with no problem and I have been able to add attachments which were clear and legible. I recently upgraded to Win 7 64bit and it does not include Microsoft Photo Editor or any other program I have found so far that will let me resize screenshots. I copied or installed Microsoft Photo Edito…

Hi, I have used it with XP, the sound acelleration slider found on the DXdiag sound tab. It is an initial solution to tackle the 'famous' crackling sound that can be heard while in the VC of an FS9 aircraft. I've gone back from FSX to fly jetliners in FS9 and it's the only thing ( the crackling sound in the VC ) i have a problem with. I run Win7/64 on a i7-980x 3.33GHz, GF GTX480, 12GB Mem and a Creative SB Xfi Titanium Pcie soundcard. No problems with crackling sounds in FSX. Advice is to turn the sound acelleration slider back a few tads and with a bit of luck the crackling sound should then be dealed with. So i run DXdiag and open up the first sound tab…

In the last couple of weeks my FSX computer (i7 2600k, 8 Gb memory, GTX580 card) is having systematically blue screens. It seems the problem is related to "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" caused by driver "ntoskrnl.exe", a W7 system file. I tried to find out a solution to this issue (other than a reinstall of W7) but found no working answer. I did a system recover to the "last kown working condition" with no results either. I may try next a repair with the W7 disks. I wonder whether anyone had already a similar issue that may recommend something to fix this problem. Thanks

Hi,Not sure if this is correct forum, but have just purchased Acronis back up proggy, and there is an option for differential or incremental. My question is, which is best, and for those that use this back up solution, what settings do you find best.I have created a rescue disk, and have backed up OS,W7 64, and my FSX drive. So any tips from users would be much appreciated.Cheers

Hi All, I'm running windows 7 64 bit on and I7 920 processor which has been overclocked the 3.8ghz. So far my FSX experience has been really good as has all the other things I use the PC for (photo editing mainly). The message on the blue screen is: driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. Before anyone asks to my knowledge the drivers haven't changed recently. Can anyone help All the best David

  23. I've researched this issue (thru these forums, internet search, etc) to death and am at my wit's end trying to resolve this...I've recently purchased VoxATC and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail (decided on the box version as I understand you receive additional voice packs) so thought I should make sure my PC is ready on the voice recognition front. I have used Windows 7 speech recognition before as my secondary computer (laptop) contains many FSX utilities as well as the Feelthere Tower simulation which I use with Windows 7 speech.. On my main FSX PC I use a headset microphone and am able to configure the microphone and "train" the speech engine using my voice…

  25. W7 64 bit with 8gb of memory but only shows 3.327gb in Task manager and CPU-ID. I remember faintly that there is some change that needs to be made to get the full 8gb to show since I had this when I first installed Windows7 64bit and 8gb showed up. Anyone know what that was?? Ihad asked this before and link to solution is: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/363296-windows7-only-sees-4gb-but-8gb-installed/page__p__2268920__hl__nudata#entry2268920
