The Win7 OS Forum

As simmers migrate to Win 7, we are sure there are going to be numerous questions regarding the use of FS and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it.

Hello, I'm planning on building a new rig soon. This computer will be used for my family and FSX The plan is to get two (2) 256 gb SSD and two (2) 1TB Caviar Black HDD I want windows 7 on both SSD. One SSD will be for family and the other for FSX. Same thing for the 1TB which will just be one for storage of family files and the other for FSX add-ons. I would like some help on how to set-up the dualboot? Basically how to install the two windows and then when I boot the computer up how to get a message to choose if I want to start the family windows on the family SSD or the FSX windows on the FSX SSD. And how to set up so that the family windows does no…

  2. I have both Windows 7 and 8 on my system. I used EasyBCD to link the Win 8 bootload (on an SSD) to the Win 7 HDD, but can also select which OS the system boots to through BIOS. If Windows 8 was without issues I would be happy just to use that, however I keep going back to Windows 7 to run FX. I obviously have 2 instances of FSX. Yesterday, when booting back into Windows 7, diskcheck started on the drive that has the Windows 8. I tried pressing a key to stop it but it kept counting down and running. Then, today, when I booted into Windows 8, the same happened again, only this time the Windows 7 OS disk was selected. I got to the PC too late to stop it. When in W…

This has been driving me nuts, I thought I resolved the issue but: For the last few weeks, when I start Windows, it gets to the welcome screen, with two identities. When I click on mine, it just hangs there and spins. I force a shutdown, it comes back and ask for safe mode option, I skip it and it, log on as usual and then it starts normally. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The other identity works fine everytime. I searched the web, and I see several suggestions, which includes a repair option using a W7 OS disk. I've tweaked Windows, using NickN's list, and actually re-did the whole thing. I run O%O dfrag, Malewarebytes and ESET Scans and…

Having had a major hardware meltdown about a week ago, I am awaiting delivery of a new PC, with a Windows 7 64-Bit operating system, in the next day or so. Although I have most of my previous FS9 set-up backed up on external hard drives, having had quite a traumatic reinstallation a few years ago, I am now contemplating a fresh installation, prolonged and tedious as that can be, as that seems to be the better way to go. I have however a huge amount of both payware and freeware (my old FS9 was over 375GB in size) and although I will try to be sensible and slim down the installation on this occasion, I am very conscious that I need to set about this correctly from the very …

  7. I'm looking into upgrading my gaming PC speakers to a full surround sound system to use with Windows 7 and FSX. I want to get a regular surround system, probably 5.1 surround sound, that is intended for use with a TV and use it with my PC. I plan on connecting it to my PC by using a cable like this: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16882123074 The dual RCA connection on the end would go to the surround sound system, and the 3.5mm jack would go into the headphone jack of the PC. Then I would set my audio control panel to output in 5.1 surround. Would this idea work? Does anyone have a recommendation of the best gaming pc surround sound system?

  8. Hi I was just wondering if someone can help me I am looking to try my hand at building my first ever pc however I will only be trying with cheap parts first of all then upgrade if all goes well. Obviously I will need windows of some sort (in this case I have chose 7 but please say if you disagree with that when running fsx) but I was just wondering in the future when I upgrade I have heard that windows can invalidate. Will I then need to buy a new key or just contact Microsoft and explain what I have done? I don't intend to do anything illegal as it will only be running on this pc but was just wondering do I get so many installs before i have to do anything or w…

Strange issue here, my 2D panels in every airplane are slightly distorted. Symptoms are that the instruments and labeling and such for switches are hard to read because of the slight distortion. There are no other problems. This occurs in DX9 mode, but DX10 preview fixes it. However I'd rather run in DX9. Any thoughts? Applicable computer info: -Macbook pro running Windows 7 64 bit only -Intel HD Graphics 3000 video card -FSX Acceleration I have all the latest graphics drivers and all the windows updates. Oddly, this began occurring after a windows update but I did a fresh install of windows and it would take a month to sort through every individual windows …

Hi captains, I have been away from FSX for a while due to a lot of schoolwork. My SSD was getting full so I had to delete FSX also. I reinstalled it again recently and today I reached the point of reinstalling FS Recorder 2.1. Unfortunately I forgot to delete FS Recorder the last time I deleted FSX and it would refuse to uninstall after the deletion of FSX because it would come up with the error message saying: "FSX could not be found on your system, aborting installation wizard." So now when FSX was reinstalled I expected I would be able to uninstall it, but when trying to uninstall from Add/Remove programs it gave me some kind of error message about some kind of ne…

  13. I'm getting close to making the jump from XP to Win 7. I'm still using FS2004 because of my financial commitment in FS2004. On payware scenery ie Aerosoft, the installer usually installs the scenery itself into its own aerosoft folder within FS2004. Is this still the case with Win 7 or do you need to use the scenery install method. So in payware cases you need to unzip into a new folder and manually install as described in various threads. Ive so much scenery installed in XP I keep putting off moving to Win 7 because of these reasons. thanks . Steve

  15. I'm not sure if this is a graphics card problem, a OS problem or what, so I'm starting here - maybe someone can point me at the right answer ..... When I leave FSX to go to another program (e.g. setting up FSInn or using Topcat for fuel and loading etc) when I return to FSX, the screen doesnt always re-draw properly. Sometimes it does, sometimes not. Sometimes it'll just stay black with the sounds indicating the program is running, just not drawing the screen. Other times I'll have only part of the screen redrawn - like for example I'll have no panels, or only ground and sky nothing else. In my old system I would have just said it was a problem of not enoug…

  16. Hello, and Merry Christmas. I've researched the forums and the Internet and it seems like there's a lot of posts that contradict each other on this subject. I just bought a 240Gb SSD, and I have a LOT of programs besides FSX to run. Here's what I've done: Installed Win7 64 on the SSD. Moved all of my user profiles and program data to a fresh spinning 1Tb HDD at 6Gb/ sec. I've also created the Program Files and Program Files ( x86) folders on the HDD, but haven't installed anything yet. These original OS-installed folders still exist on the SSD. I'm not moving those original folders because you can break things like UAC, registry, etc. I plan on purcha…

This is a weird problem but I hope someone can help me. I had a PC with a windows XP installation. It had two drives which were partitioned like this: Disk 1, 1000 GB, 2 partitions Disk 1, Part 1, 15 GB, windows XP system Disk 1, Part 2, 985 GB, software Disk2, 1000 GB, 2 partitions Disk 2, Part 1, 500 GB, data Disk 2, Part 2, 500 GB, data This PC caught some virus which messed up the windows system. I was planning on upgrading to new hardware and win7 so I didn't want to reinstall the windows XP system. So I worked from a bootable Ubuntu usbstick for a short period. From Ubuntu the partitions listed above were still there and perfectly accessible. …

HI EVERYONE, I HAVE HAD MY FSX SET UP AS A SINGLE PILOTS SEAT FOR A WHILE NOW. MY AIRCRAFT AND ENVIRONMENT SOUNDS COME FROM MY MAIN SPEAKER SYSTEM AND ALL MY ATC TRANSMISSIONS COME FROM MY USB HEADSET WHICH WORKS PERFECTLY AND IS AN OPTION WHEN USING A USB HEADSET THREW FSX AS IM SURE ALOT OF YOU ALL KNOW. THE MAIN ISSUE IM HAVING IS THAT NOW I AM ADDING A CO PILOT SEAT AND CONTROLS AND WOULD ALSO LIKE THE CO PILOT TO BE ABLE TO HEAR AND TRANSMIT TO ATC AS WELL. FOR SOME REASON WIN 7 WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO AD A SECOND SET OF USB HEADPHONES AND MIC AS IT WILL ONLY ALLOW ONE TO WORK AT ANY GIVEN TIME, I AM FRUSTRATED AND HAVE SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW FOR A SOLUTION. IF THERE…

  19. Hello everyone Since a couple of days Windows presents a pop up message at the bottom of the screen each time when I shut down FSX. The message mentiones initially fsx.exe but then says that there is a damaged record or folder in the C:\ProgramData\Temp and advises to execute a 'chkdsk'. Windows maintenance centre as well as my own maintenance program (Advanced System Care) do not report any problems. Only the Windows Eventviewer produces the error message repeatedly during an FSX session. FSX works normally. I have no idea what the relation of fsx is with the files/folders in the Temp subfolder, most of which are by the way more than a year old. So I figure that with…

  20. Hey guys, Following a sketchy pdf I was forced into downloading, I now have a virus, or actually a very intense adware situation. It got to the point where ads were running all the way down the sides of any website, as well as the margins. And these aren't static ads, these are along the lines of .gifs. They move, they change, and they aren't very clean and appropiate (normally wouldn't be an issue, but due to moving furniture, my rig is temporarily based in the living room corner, fully visable to anyone who comes through the kitchen). I have run all the AV programs, Malwarebytes, Ccleaner, even McAfee. This has cleared all ads on websites, however, I am still getting …

Hello everyone, Today, out of the blue, I suddenly encountered this extremely strange problem. Nearly every YouTube video won't play anymore. I click on the video, and the window just remains black, not even a spinning circle indicating that it's loading. I can click every button on the page, for instance change the video resolution, full screen button, (dis)like button, I can even post replies. But the play button isn't clickable and the video just won't play. For some reason however, a little amount of videos will actually play just fine without hiccups. The other 75%, don't do anything at all. I tried Internet Explorer, Firefox, rebooting my PC, doing a virus scan …

  24. Howdy, I searched a little on this topic but don't have anything I can hang my hat on yet as to why I should purchase Win 7 64 versus keep and reinstall Vista 64 on my next build. Anything solid to make the purchase worth the $$? Affect on performance, smoothness, other? To be honest, I've really had no troubles on Vista 64. I guess one reason might be just to have an OS that will be supported longer perhaps. I have a copy of Win 7 64 on a MacBookPro but if I'm not mistaken it can't be used as well on a new desktop, yes? Thanks in advance, Noel

hello, One of my fellow workers (his laptop) has caught a nasty case of ransomware. In trying to help him out I have not been very succesfull. Whe I reboot the laptop, both normal and in safemode, the virus kicks in. And so I can't get acces to the os. I have tried several of the solutions proposed on the various websites but sofar without any luck. Do anybody know of a virusscanner that I can install on a USB-stick or on a rescuedisk? I guess this is the only way to find the culprit and kill it. All sugestions are welcome. Luc Brusselmans Belgium
