Currently have xp 32 on C: drive (30GB, Primary).I am about to install Windows 7 pro 64 on D: (40GB, Primary).I have the other two, E (Logical) and F (logical) of 500GB HD.My question is, if i install my fs9 on "E" using xp, should I also intall it twice using windows 7 as I want to use my fs9 in windows 7 64 as welll. Is it necessary to have 2 fs9 installed in order to run it in both OS? The idea is to learn how fs9 runs in windows 7 smoothly, till then I still want to run my fs9 in xp whenever I want it to like I usually did for years.Thank You

On my new Flying PC I have the OS and a couple other things on C Drive which is a 60GB ssd. I know that there should be about 35-40GB of free space on that drive, but Properties indicates there is less than 6GBs of free space. I can not find out what is taking up all that space???In Windows 7 there are numerous files on C drive that are *access denied * files with a little padlock on them--- even though I am the *Owner/Administrater* and I have checked *Show Hidden Files and Folders*. I also have the User Accounts turned off.Long story short-- I changed the *Permissions* settings on all of those files as well as some of the *Sharing* definitions by going to Properties-Sec…

Couple of questions regarding a W7 re-install ---* Do I have to format the ssd that W7 is currently on before I re-install it? (the W7 DVD that came with the pc doesn't say *recovery*)* Will I have to also re-install FSX if it's currently on it's own dedicated drive?* Is it still recommended to follow Nick N's setup guide for both W7 and FSX?THanks -Bruce

Hello, this is one problem I have been experiencing ever since I have started heavily using vatsim. I use paywares like the PMDG NGX, 747 etc and vatsim which has caused freezing and then "windows trying to find a solution" then CTD and a program restart. This has been particularly painful with the fact that its during my VA flights and the PIREPS getting rejected. Any help? My settings are adjusted to the lowest realistic setting, doing better but nothing great. Yesturday I had done that fsx uiautomationcore.dll to uiautomationcore.dll.old thing, it was good I flew two flights- posky a330 two hours reasonable traffic, PMDG NGX 1 hour, good traffic and then without restart…

I plan to buy an ssd. I just finished uninstalling all of my addons for fsx and any other program which requires online activation, just to make sure that they become reset. I currently have my HDD divided into 2 partitions, one for the OS and major programs and the other for data like videos, pictures, etc. My question is, now that I finished uninstalling everything that needs online activations, can I go ahead and just install my copy of windows again on the ssd and delete my current windows/programs partition (and later add this free space to my data partition)? Is this a correct procedure?

I know that "C" drive can become heavily fragmented with normal every day usage due the the operating system being on that drive (temp files, swap file, etc). I have FSX on another drive and defragment it once a month which I know may be a little excessive if one isn't adding or removing addons. I also defragment "C", but not as often because of the time factor. It takes most of the day.My question is;On a freshly defragmented drive, "C" drive in this case, if a series of files (say 2 or 3 gigibits worth) are not modified in anyway either manually or by the program that accesses them will they become fragmented over time as the rest of the drive becomes so? I would assume…

I was doing some maintenance on my system and a question of video and album art file storage came up. WMP12 (and I guess WMC but I don't use that) will create album jpgs in your music library folder. OK that's not such a big deal, other than the files are marked system/hidden so you have to enable that to see them. But more intresting is that there is also a cache of these files in your user local appdata. that cvan get kind of big and waste space on your C drive (I'm using an SSD for Win7 and FSX so sapce is an issue for me). I guess WMC also stores stuff in the local appdata. But what was a bigger find, is that if you enable WMP media sharing files are cached in…

My computer gets random blue screens when loading a java or flash application. It doesn't happen all the time, but lets say in one week it will BSOD at least three times. I know it related to flash or java because as soon as I load a flash app like liveatc, or YouTube video, or some other flash file it will instantly BSOD. This happens with java at certain times as well. I am using Google Chrome and have checked and I already have the latest JAVA and Flash updates. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 Bit, and I have all the latest windows updates, and I already ran a full system scan for viruses and my PC is clean, I also use Ccleaner regularly.Any Ideas? Thanks,

Hello fellow simmers. When installing new driver, should I just run the installer and ignore the default one provided by Windows 7? I usually use Driver Cleaner to uninstall the previous one before the new one installed in win xp 32 to avoid conflict.Thank you

I've allready got my computer up and running with Win 7 64 bit, but I will need to install Win XP as well. I've got some old scanners and printers that need XP drivers to run.I'm torn between a dual boot setup, or if I should just install XP on a separate drive and use the BIOS to change boot drive those few times I need to run XP...?

Hi all,I had FSX running on my Windows7 32bit system for about 18 mths to 2 years with no problems at all. As you can see from my signature I have quite a few aircraft mostly carrenado and PMDG all working fine along with FEX, UTE, and GTE. So when PMDG brought out the 737 I waited a few months before deciding to buy the said add-on. The 737 worked ok but I decided it was time to upgrade to Windows7 64bit and really get the most out of my 737. That's when things started going wrong! So far I have installed FSX in C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator and also in C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have FSX deluxe and have SP1 and …

How many of you set your machine to high performance in the Power Options menu ? For one thing, it seems to overwrite your Intel Speedstep setting and your pc no longer idles at 1600mhz but will go the full extent of the clock. I see this could be beneficial to FSX in preventing minor stutters but is it effecting hardware life? You can define the parameter of your minimum cpu state to whatever you want, MS sets it to 100% min-max. Just wanted to hear what some others think.

I have recently begun to experience very intermittently a BSOD that seems to be around the ntoskrnl.exeI understand that this may be related to keyboard ground wire issues but not sure. I go into SCENERY LIBRARY, go into ADDON SCENERY, click on the scenery folder and it won't activate. It just tries to go into the subfolder of that parent scenery folder.Normally, it would just activate after you click on the parent scenery folder and you'd get the notice the restart FS for the changes to take place etc.Any ideas?

I belong to a group (German) of online flyers (IFR) of which I take the role of Ground Controller. As in our group there are FS9 and FSX users there is often a conflict between the airport details which can be confusing in the Euroscope map. To this end I try to produce a bgl file for FS9 using the data from FSX. As, to the best of my knowledge there is yet no way of converting FSX bgl's to FS9 bgl's I do this by hand. Using 2 monitors and the two programms AFX and ADE to transfer the airport details from FSX to FS9 and then save the FS) bgl. I then convert this data bgl to the relevant files necessary for Euroscope using the programm bgl2sct. While this conversion is suc…

Hi all.I'm running FSX deluxe edition in Windows 7, 32 bit. Which I have to say works faultlessly, even with PMDG 747, MD11, Bae J41 etc. Recently I've considered upgrading to Windows 7, 64bit as I've heard recent add on aircraft like PMDG's 737NGX work better. Even PMDG suggest using 64bit versions of Windows 7. My version of Windows 7 allows an upgrade to 64 bit at no extra cost, so my only expense would be the RAM which I'd install.Tonight I thought I would check the Microsoft web site for any information regarding Windows 7, 64bit and FSX, to my concern I read that all versions of FSX, work in 64bit except the deluxe version I have, weird I know.So I thought I'd ask t…

For some reason, I suddenly started having CTDs (Crash to Desktop) during assorted FSX flight sessions. I thought I had discovered a cause - having Flight Sim Commander running weather as well as REX 2.0 OD doing real-time weather at the same time. However today, I had FSCommander off and it crashed. As a registered FSUIPC user, I naturally downloaded the latest DLL library and copied it to the FSUIPC folder. Unfortunately, that did not completely eliminate my CTD issue.Got a CTD this morning while I had FSX simulation speed running at 8x on PMDG 737ngx flight from Groton CT to JFK New York. I don't always use the speed-up function in FSX, but I was going to be unable…
