I ordered my copy of X-Plane from RC Simulations yesterday, and low and behold it arrived today. Aerosoft detailed airports and all.So after the 3 hour installation, I took off from my home airport of Aberdeen Dyce. I could pick out all of the major roads around Aberdeen. After playing with the seattle demo, What I saw is what I expected and considering that this scenery is straight out of the box, what you have here is a good start: Every Road and suburb from medium size up is depicted. Looking at night videos and the way street lights reflect on the streets and highways as well as the vehicles.. I was just wondering about creating high mast lights.. In the US these are very common especially around highway interchains.. Maybe this is a limit of the sim, to make it look realistic you would have to remove some of the default lights at the interchains and replace several with one of the high mast lights.. Is/would this be possible?? Is WED just for airports, or can it modify anything in XP??

I should have my Xplane disks arrive tomorrow, At least thats what the tracking number says.I want to make sure I install it correctly. This is what I get from reading other posts about installing:Im not to use the installer on the DVD, but download one from Xplanes website.After I do that, and the insaller is running,It will ask me to insert the next disk until all the disks are installed.Then I should re-run it as a repair to copy the global textures.Then I can start xplane and set up joysticks and such. Is this correct?Is there a sticky somewhere that lists what I need to do?Thanks for any advice.RobP.s. I should mention Ive already deleted the demo.

Ok, I know how to dial up atc, but when I push that button, I only get the "File flight plan" option. When I tune into the correct freq, what button do I push to acually talk to ground, tower, app, dep, etc... ?

So, i tried the beta, and i wanted to learn it, and customise it before saying that i don't like it cause i didn't give it a fair chance, and all that i have seen in some reviews here and there.So, i have played it for around 1 hour until now, not much i know, and in that time i got the joystic hat switch to work properly, familiarised my self with the controls and all, and flew around with 3 planes. I initially set graphics to high, meaning lots of objects, antializing, HDR e.t.c, but found out that i wasn't getting good frames. My question is about the AI. I see that you can have 20 aircraft, but I like to fly on smaller airports. Does Xplane populate smaller airports? Or does it just populate big ones like KSEA? 20 A/C doesn't seem like a lot, one of the things I like is being put in a holding pattern and having to follow another A/C on approach. How much flexibility exists on this front? Is there any room for a 3rd party to do AI add ons such as Mytraffic?

In the last few months , I feel like my head is spinning with all the rumours and statements on Flight, P3d, FSX & Xplane.Ive been with FSX for the last 6 years and FS9 before that. Although Ive had fun with FSX, Ive spent far more times fiddling with it than actually flying. I tried P3D and it impressed me, but there is still a lot of tinking to get stuff to work right and I just want to fly! This is with real word weather, in Mobil, AL area. I had to reduce the clouds from 50% to 35% to run smooth, but they do look MUCH better. Have a look.

I have been reading about people developing new buildings for XP.. Reading about how everything can be expanded on and customized.. Where do you see XP in a year??I would imagine the scenery complexity will have grown amazingly.. Not just buildings but the ability for roads to follow the terrain easier.. May also be neat if trains were modeled.. Even just static, populate rail yards.. I am also sure the ATC system and traffic management will have been improved on as well.. I have yet to pick up XP10, but it really is looking more and more enticing..

Anybody try doing a fwd slip in any of the Carenado airplanes ? They don't slip at all. I can do a fwd slip in a 172 to bleed off airspeed and loose altitude in real life. Try that with the Carenado 172/F33A in XPX or FSX.To top that all off, when pull the power to idle the right wing wants to roll to the right till you are inverted if you don't correct for it.Carenado planes look very nice but I wish they would put more effort into the flight dynamics. Latest press release of Microsoft "indicates" that MS has no intention of building a sim. "Flight" will be a free, downloadable, Hawaii-only, Arcade-game for "everybody". FSX won´t be dead anytime soon, because simmers invested a lot into it and 3PDs are pushing the limits of FSX over and over again. I have a question or two for those in the know and have an opinion? How much difference does the amount of memory make?Heres the deal, I hae been running for a number of years with 4GB of memory as I had a 32 bit OS. After this latest,Windows crash had to reload Windows, I bit he dust and went the 64 bit route. I have an older Asus board, P5n-D that suports only 8 GB of ram. currently my 4GB are in two modules so I can put 2 more 2 GB modules in, I currently have 2 1GB memory cards that would bring me up to 6 GB, My question is would the 2 extra GB going from 6 to 8 GB be worth it or would 6GB probably be OK. In fact is it even worth going to 6 GB of ram over leaving it …

Hi folks.So, with MS Flight being nothing better then Pilotwings II, I finally made the switch to Xplane.1. The geomesh and scenery is amazing.2. The weather looks good, but I'm concerned about the accuracy on long flights in a jet. The winds aloft seem wrong.3. The 3d cockpits are very cool, and the displays are stunning (its painful to look at guages in FS9 and FSX now.)4. The night airports look very good, BUT, the colours seem too dark on the ground, no stars, no moonlight, very hard to navigate an apron on the ground.What do I need to get my sim up to snuff? I got REX trying to fix the weather, but I don't think it did.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. Lost Win7 32 bit last night, Win 7 apparently just run under the porch and wouldn't come out at all. Widows just would not start,Get a BSOD going into Safe Mode. wouldn't repair itself, Finally got a message that it was the nVidia driver was messed up. finally gave up and reinstalled Win 7, hmmm, good time to go to 64 bit. And that finally worked out. Took all night and most of today, getting everything back in shape. Did have good backups and amazingly they all worked.Finally got a look at XP 10 in 64 bit. Looks like it improved it some, clouds don't look tooo bad, not as good as in beta 7, but i can tolerate it…

It seems to me that quite a few options don't work ,using XP10 latest beta number, I keep trying to press the FPL button no effect, on/off, and a few others. Is this normal?

Good afternoon MortonM,Will their ever be a 3D cockpit for your ArcherIII? I ask as I use TrackIR qite a bit, and I need to zoom into the panel sometimes to read particularly the directional gyro. Regardless of the answer, I still fly her!!
