I understand that using the OpenSceneryX library is freeware, and we can distribute the files we create freely. The question I have is if one uses some of the say, buildings, hangers, or other objects in the default X-Plane scenery, (such as a tower at Seattle airport or LOWI airport for instance), can we freely distribute the file then? Is it legal, or does using any of the default scenery constitute a violation of copyright?I know we can do that for ourselves, (who would know).Any knowledgeable responses are appreciated.

  2. Hi,I have ported Jaques Braults nice DC-6 from version 8.64 to v.10 by first letting v.9 Planemaker convert the file from 8 to 9 and then letting v.10 Planemaker do the rest. Had to do some minor stuff manually to make it work but its good now... for the most part. I still have one problem:The landing lights won't show up. The switch is present and there is a slot assigned to the landing light in the appropriate menu in planemaker, but it won't light up. Strobes, Beacon and NAVs do work, although they won't light up the fuselage (should they not do that automatically with version 10's global lighting?).Any ideas. Appreciate any help :-)Thanks

X-Plane 10.04 Beta 5 (Coming Soon) ATC: Controllers now issue altimeter settings to aircraft on handoffs, on descents OUT of a flight level and every 50nm when appropriate. Controllers now expect aircraft to fly with the correct altimeter setting and also properly monitors aircraft at flightlevels expecting them to be flying at a PRESSURE altitude (with their altimeters set to 29.92). At this moment, the transition level for the WORLD is set to 18,000 feet as it is in the USA. In the future, this will vary based on region. AI aircraft are spawned at more appropriate speeds. In the past, they were spawned too slowly which caused them to stall and lose altitude which cause…

  4. Hi folks,Thanks to the efforts of a clever individual at x-plane.org Joan has created a plug-in that seems to cure the horrendous winds-aloft issues present within X-Plane. Xplane NOAA GFS forecast weather 1.0rc2http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=15453Its not perfect and I think Joan is planning to optimize things a bit more (especially for VATSIM users) but I am flying high altitude (FL330) as I type this and the wind direction is correct...although the speed is somewhat lower than expected. But a huge relief from the constant 100kt winds encountered flying north or west using default XP real weather METAR interpretation.I am using this plug-i…

My notebook is broken so I'm looking for new hardware. With a wife-limited budget I could afford an i3 2.3 Ghz 3MB, Gforce GT630M that is on sale. Do you think it would at least run XP9.7 well? Many thanks for your input. :-)Edit, 4GB Ram

Hey all,I'm wondering if there are any other mac users out there that have XP configured in a way that provides steady decent performance- which to me is anything over 25fps. When I purchased XP, I assumed I had enough of a rig to squeeze all a lot of juice out of the sim but I'm finding a very delicate and unsavory balance between performance and acceptable visuals. Here is my situation:I'm running an early 2009 Mac Pro with 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Xeons, 32GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5870 (1024mb cram), and Apple 30" cinema display. I also have XP installed on a striped (raid 0) array of SSDs. I attempted to make use of the "set all rendering options for maximum speed" option …

Guys, I just tried out these replacement clouds http://maxx-xp.hikin...om/?page_id=147 and my frame rates have jumped from a low of 7-8 when almost in or around the default clouds, to a low of 18 in the same conditions with these replacements. If I was just "near" the clouds with the default, my fps would be in the mid teens, with these they stayed high 20's to low 30's. Not only that, they look just as good to me. I also downloaded the replacement sky, and I like the look, a little more blue. It better matches what I see out the window today.Just make sure to back up you originals first. The install is real easy, replace a few texture files, that's it. These replacements…

I just noticed that X-Plane 10 Global Edition has been released. I saw some videos and was very impressed with the night lighting and the road traffic. There are also some impressive looking shots. Can users share how complete this platform is:Can I fly VFR around beautiful landscapes like ORBX or similar? Can I practice VOR, ILS, & GPS approaches with dynamic weather? Can I fly a complex airliner from one great airport (FSDT/GSX Type) to the next airport? Is there dynamic ATC available? Can I use a yoke, pedals, and my go flight modules? Finally, how is the performance?I just want to get an idea of how complete XPX is now. It took FSX 6 years. I hope I don't have to wait a…

Hi, I'm trying to fix up this B-17G for X-plane 10.http://xpfr.org/?body=aero_accueilSo far I have found two problems running this in XPX and solved one.The first problem I ran into was that you could not see anything in the cockpit at night. I solved this issue by increasing the size of the cockpit lights. The second problem I have run into now is that whenever I start taxing, everything works fine until I use full left rudder to turn. When I do this, the left tire locks up and it becomes impossible to dislodge.I read on the wiki that XPX uses multiple brake pressure settings for each brake now. My guess is that the brake primer in the cockpit is only controlling the righ…

Hi, I'd really like to get X-Plane 10, but the threshold is a bit too high at the moment. I just don't have the time to start fresh with a new sim unless I can get up to speed in a flash. So, does anyone know a good tutorial for X-Plane virgins?

I have a wierd problem I only experienced since updating to the latest beta. Every time I restart the sim, or even within the sim-change to a different location-all my joystick button settings are lost. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

  15. Let me say from the start that I don't want to get your hopes up. Your experience may NOT be the same as mine. Before this beta update, I was seeing "good" frame rates with most settings 2 or 3 notches from the top. For an example, with the Corenda 172 on the GA ramp at KSEA, my FPS would hover at around 43. When flying in this area, it would fluctuate between 27 and 54 FPS.After the beta update, I am seeing "better" frame rates (about 51) with most settings at their highest level. Again, with the Corenda 172 on the GA ramp at KSEA. When flying in this area, I am now 34 to 61 FPS.In Both cases, I have the cloud puffs set to "5%" and the shadows set to "static"Here is a lis…

It's just been released. This looks interesting<quote>Remesh modifierThe Remesh modifier is a tool for generating new mesh topology based on an input surface. The output follows the surface curvature of the input, but its topology is a uniform distribution of quads. It can generate smoothed output or tag sharp features to better capture corners.</quote>I have a feeling this might get a lot of use from me :)I haven't tested 2.62 yet with the blender xplane scripts

X-Plane 10.04 Beta 4 ATC: ATC checks aircraft altitude less frequently being a little more patient with pilots. New aircraft spawn "silently" which should drastically improve radio congestion. ATC should properly inform pilots of their expected approach and runway upon giving the pilot their FIRST vector for the approach. Scenery: Latest version of KSEA demo area has variable density of objects with the rendering settings. If you have a lower performance computer and run at medium object settings, the demo airport should have better framerate.Weather: Fixed black sky and broken transition from near to far terrain when flying over overcast cloud layers. Fog coloring twe…

Sorry, could'nt resist some whimsy in the title! Anyway, I have been playing with Xplane10 a lot, and like others noticed what seems a disproportionate hit when clouds are at higher levels.I am sure we all believe it will be worked out eventually, but in my wanderings, I have bumped across some cloud modeling schemes that seem at least as advanced (in appearance at least) while not requiring extreme power from our computers (which is why, by the way, I am certain this can/will all be fixed.)There is also a very nice water demo!! (Puh-lease, fix the water!!!) :biggrin:There is lots to play around with once you start experimenting with the settings in these demos. I think m…

After playing around with my rendering settings today, and zeroing in on that sweet spot, it was nice to finally hear my graphics card working hard for a change. Coming from FSX, my graphics card has had an easy life. Now its time for it to pay back what it cost. So far so good!Rob

I have been gone for 3 weeks-just got home-and applied the latest beta's that I had missed and fired up xplane.First thing I noticed-my joystick settings seemed to have been forgotten (and seem to keep being forgotten between runnings of the program). Then I fired up the Carenado f33 for a spin and was upset to find it had the jerky overeacting fm that is typical of many xp aircraft. Then I looked into the joystick settings-seems the linear settings are by default now put at 25%? In any case putting them back at zero I was instantly back to the wonderful handling of the f33.Then-perhaps it has been a few weeks-I started noticing lots of things I had not seen before. Manif…

Hi all!Well, I've been flying X10 since its release, and I'm loving the sim more and more each day. I've been downloading scenery like crazy, so my favorite large airports are coming to life. Also have downloaded some planes, and really enjoying them. But, my question is, is anyone able to fly with smooth FPS when clouds are present? Man, I have a new(er) rig, and I'm limited to clear skies because as soon as clouds appear - wham - I go down to about 8 FPS, especially with real world overcast. I have my cloud settings at 20%. Is this a common occurrence? Many thanks!Bob

Good morning apilotx,A quick question, is there any way to put missing lakes back into the scenery, I am missing several important lakes in the Oklahoma City, OK area. Not a huge problem, but would be really nice to have the missing large lakes. Fortunately the two most important lakes are there, so this isn't a gripe just for informational purposes. :smile:Thanks in advance.
