  1. I've just released Aberdeen EGPD Dyce Version 3 here:http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=16102Lots of custom buildings, and openscenery x objects too. As I've been adding items, I've been observing a slow but steady drop in FPS from 30 in version 1 to 22fps in version 3.In terms of custom buildings, the terminal tops the triangle count at ~10000 triangles. The firestation at 6000 triangles.... Does this strike developers as high numbers that can exert a heavy toll if duplicated across 20-30 airport buildings? Or is it actually quite a light overhead? Typical texture size is 256x512 or 256x1024 resolution textures.I've noted in one of Ben's…

Does XP10 include a damage model? When aircraft are taken beyond their limits, does it show?Pulling a C172 out of a dive at 180kts will have any effect on it's structure? On my last version of xplane (long ago...) Austin included some sort of message like: "I will now take one of the stabilizers out..." or something then like when components failled due to overstress...

  3. Well, it's happened once again. I have always bought the main base version from Austin. 8, 9 and now 10. Again, same deal. After flying it for 2 full weeks, I have yet again concluded it's not for me. The visuals, while stunning at some times, especially dawn and dusk, most of the time the green world, mountains not drawing fully in the background till you get there, and the clouds.... yuck. The latest version removed the puff slider to a min of 10, when I liked 0 before for perf. reasons. I wrote Austin and he did tell me it is intentionally done that way. Why? Performance with the latest version is not great. Even on normal settings, it performs worse than the demo area…

  4. New official drivers for ATI users released yesterday, version 12.3. I've been using a preview version for a while, didn't notice any great improvement with my 6970. Notice in the Release notes though, that they mention "XPlane: Textures no longer exhibit flicker and corruption" which will be glad news to the new 7000 series owners of ATI'S cards. Here's the drivers:http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspxAnd the Release notes:http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalystSoftwareSuiteVersion123ReleaseNotes.aspxGlen

I'm thinking of trying Xplane 10 but notice it doesn't have "plane maker" included on the dvd's. My interests are not solely in flying but also in modelling aircraft. There is a program on the dvd called "airfoil design" or very similar but exactly what the purpose of supplying the program for is not made clear on the website. I notice that a couple of posts regarding the conversion of aircraft from xplane-9 (made with plane maker I presume) to xplane-10 have so far gone un-answered. Does this signal the end of freeware third party aircraft for Xplane10?If not could someone please let a complete newbie to Xplane know what modelling program and processes are required to …

I have been away from MS Flight Simulator for quite a while. I was going to get FSX, but got discouraged since I inferred that I would have to overclock a new computer system to get really good stutter free performance with my visual parameters set up very high. Sorry, but I am not a real teckie guy who wants to do this.If I get a new computer, to get really good visual stutter free (with really good scenery graphics) performance in flight X-Plane 10, will I have to overclock my new system?

  8. Yesterday I started the day by replying to a thread where, at some point, innacuracies in the xplane10 prop model (CS or variable pitch) was discussed, and I pointed out that if xplane doesn't model the fact that, on a CS Prop, if flying, say, at cruise, 75% throttle (so not full MP ), and you pull the Prop lever back, MP should rise. If you push the Prop lever, MP should, instead, lower.Correct operation is allways: Prop 1st, Throttle 2nd when increasing, Throttle 1st Pro 2nd when decreasing... to avoid engine overstress/damage...I wasn't near my FLIGHT computer, and I do not have xplane installed, but today I was able to test it jsut to find that, FLIGHT is also wrong i…

Hi everyone,I don't know if I’m missing something, but according to Austin himself (as your can hear in this video - all 4 part), the clouds system in XP10 is described as 3 dimensional. If you listen carefully he tell us that every pixel of cloud in the sim are render in 3d.But I have a big doubt about it, since in the ressources folder, there are some bitmap files containing sample of puff cloud resulting sometime (as you can see in this screen capture) in obvious pattern. So what about the 3d cloud engine. Is it already implemented or a future development?

Hi allSorry to hijack this topic, but I'm new to X-Plane 10 as well and I have a few general questions I hope you can help with.It concerns the planes. How much better are the payware aircraft compared to the aircraft you get with the Global DVD set? For example: are the 3D cockpits in the payware (or freeware) aircraft in a higher resolution? If so I'll definitely buy some. The default aircraft in x-plane 10 look a little blurred both inside and outside. Also is it worth waiting for dedicated x-10 aircraft? I notice that currently there doesn't seem to be any aircraft designed exclusively for x-10 (or perhaps its because all planes are backwards compatible?). As for scene…

  15. For those that don't check the Hardware forums here, a user has posted a Youtube video with a quick preview of the soon to be released (seems to be out at some places) Nvidia Kepler GTX680, showing triple monitor support from one video card. Skip to 2:30 in the video to see the multi monitors. Hope this is for real, and works similar to Eyefinity. I see a new video in the near future, and I might add, it's about time.GlenSorry for the messy post, edit is not working.Sorry for the messy post, edit is not working.

I Dont think I can do this currently, But Ill ask anyway, Is there a way I can prevent certain liverys of Ai aircraft from appearing in locations they shouldnt be. For example, I have this Luftansa 737 at SanFrancisco Seen below. I dont want to delete it, I just dont want it appearing in the US (although it looks cool). Its not a big deal to me, Just wondering if there is an easy wasy to do this currently in XP10.Rob

Hey guysI have a quick questionI have several G2xpl sceneries downloaded at various LODsI would like to layer them, but keep them separate as space on my X-plane drive is a factor. From what I gathered this can be accomplished by putting Zs in front of them.So My base scenery is Florida at LOD 17I want to add some smaller sceneries of some airports I fly out of regularly at LOD 18(or even 19).I am downloading them into separate folders. So would it be something like this in my custom scenery folder?z_Miami 18z_Tampa 18ZZ_Florida LOD17Am I on the right track here or is something off? Thanks

Got my copy of X-Plane 10 this week. :( I installed it yesterday and started diving into the rendering options. What the best way is to set up XPX for the best visual quality? I seem to be able to run it well, but I am struggling a bit to get the AA/filtering settings to my liking. Should I let the Nvidia Control Panel do the work or let the XPX application? Just curious what others are doing to avoid jaggies and shimmering. I'd like to use HDR, but I seem to get more jaggies with it. XPX looks great with and without it, anyway. For what it's worth, I am running a GTX460 (current driver) and my monitor native res is 1680 X 1050. Thanks for any info.

  25. I now have gotten over the initial hump of setting up rendering / controls / sensitivities / sounds (customizing) and have gotten the full version... love it!! Now, I got the 787 Dreamliner! Wow! what a difference in fidelity and feel compared to a default heavy jet.... This is the tipping point for me!
