Some interesting new information on PMDG developing for X-plane 10, straight from the horses mouth. Sounds promising.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/361758-04feb12-update-on-sp1c-and-a-few-other-items/page__p__2248544#entry2248544"PMDG Development for XPlane:=========================As I mentioned in a previous post, we see PMDG developing on multiple platforms in the future. There are a number of business arguments for why this is a good idea- and it has been part of our long term strategic plan for about the past 18 months. As we transition between the NGX and the 777, we have decided that now is a good time to begin the process of developing our first project for the XPla…

So, I just thought of a crazy idea for improving X-Plane 10 Ground Handling. It would really make it even more interesting for FS users, who have suffered from ridiculous ground handling by Microsoft for years. Why don't consider hiring one of the guys who do the tire model for racing simulators to do the same but with X-Plane? I don't mean doing at the level iRacing and others are doing, simulating every little detail, but even a 2 to 3 year old simulator has a much better tire physics than any flight simulator, it's just a matter of adapting that into an airplane proportion.Imagine accurate grip, handling, brake feel, tire locking, landing in crosswind, all that would fe…

Hi I have installed the Xplane 10 Demo on my system. I have had a couple of looks. I have CH Rudder pedals, Throttle Quadrant and Yoke.Throttles work ok, Yoke and pedals not quite so well but well enough that if I can get the 747 in the air I can get some sort of manoeuvrability with them. Is the actual sim better than the demo because if its not I dont see me running out and swapping from FSX. I dont know why you wouldput a 747 in as a demo. Maybe a small to medium twin may have been better especially if you want to show off the scenary. With this 747 I find if I advance the throttles to full all I get is the rear tyres screaching from locked bracks. The scenary of what I…

The vids I've seen of XPX so far: The urban areas look disappointing - the residential areas are laid out in an unrealistic manner and go right to the downtown buildings with no row houses, parks, etc. However the sky and water look fantastic. I was just flying in FSX with my fave aircraft the Constellation and thinking the urban areas looked nicer than the vids I've seen of XPX. Of course my FSX is maxed out. I'm wondering is it worth the purchase. I'd like the opinion of FSX fans that have tried XPX, I am downloading the demo right now. Also, do you think developers will jump on the XPX bandwagon since MS Flight is a just a game? This is what I'm thinking and th…

I use a Mac. Have a new iMac at home and use a MacBook Pro for work. I guess that pretty much brings me to X-plane for a decent flt sim. The last time I used one was way back. MSFS95 for Win95. I have read much complaints about X-plane, but the overall consensus seems to be that it is still a very good product. My question is; should I go ahead and get the version 10 or save $60 and get version 9 while it is still available? Also what would be a good joystick to purchase that will work with my Apple hardware? I don't want to go the yoke/ rudder route just yet. Eager to fly!

Seeing as XP is such a horrible piece of software I decided to use the DVD's as frisbies. They flew really well unlike the planes in the program. This could be an expensive hobby.

If I create a new project and set the fuselarge diameter to 6ft (3ft radius) and the fuselarge length to 40ft the proportion is 6/40=0.15.However on the screen the fuselarge diameter is too small. Measuring the screen with a rule gives the fuselarge as 5cm/49cm=0.1.Is there something I have missed?Derry.

Evening all, Just got the track IR 5 through the post today, so I was eager to try it. I'm very impressed, works nicely in X-Plane. It certainly puts looking around the virtual cockpits way up on another league. And complex cockpits like the CRJ are much easier to get around. Why I didn't buy one before I don't know, but it massively improves the immersion factor. But it takes some getting used to! I'd say learning to use track IR is as hard as learning to fly for the first time without assistance. As an example, when turning right, you tend to have your eyes fixed on the thing you're aiming for, rather than your instruments, and so you overshoot the turn.I'm sure it'…

Hey guys,I'm having all kinds of issues with the clouds in XPX. Have a look at the screen shots, you'll see what I mean. My rendering settings are med-high at best (default if it's available). See signature for system specs. These shots were taken in the CRJ 200 climbing out of CYYZ at 21,000ft, using real weather. When climbing through the clouds my fps were low teens to single digits, when I took the screen shots they were low 20's. I don't have HDR on, it's not usable with real weather if there are any clouds at all.I don't set anything in the Catalyst Control Panel, I let XPX take care of things. I have AA at 2x and AF at 16x in the Rendering Options. Have tried vario…

Hello,A few screens of my current work in project, buildings for Oahu.Real scenery made a really nice addon for this island, you can have a look at avsim review there http://www.avsim.com/pages/1211/RealScenery/Oahu.htmlYou may know that we can generate xplane scenery files from open street map data, the problem for Oahu is that there is nearly no osm buildings data there.I recently managed to found some governmental cadastral data then converted it to a file format that osm2xp can read. It's far from perfect (no height data , some parts of the island are empty), but it's a very good starting base.A few screens with fraps fps counter so you can see the performance impact.I…

I wish when developers of payware consider the communication and navigation radios, they would consider putting clickable links instead of click and drag links to the control knobs, especially to the OBI knobs. The reason I wish this, is trying a drag a discrete radial into an OBI is difficult. If you are trying to set up a fix at an intersection one may have to set say a radial of 303 for instance. It is hard to guess exactly where a 3 is between the 0 of the 300 and the 5 of the 305. Frequencies aren't quite as difficult. but trying to set a needle exactly in an OBI or a bug in a HSI is difficult.Just my 2 cents worth.

Afternoon all,In FSX, I'm sure many of us are accustomed to seeing the attitude indicator (AI) pitched way up and banked one way or another when the cockpit is cold and dark. (Don't know whether that's the case in real life, but it's a pointer in the right direction). That's sometimes, but not always the case in X-Plane (in particular my plane of choice - the Beechcraft Baron), and I'm wandering what the realistic cold dark state for this device should be.So I've got a question: How shoud the function and behaviour of the attitude indicators vary between aircraft? (especially when systems are off). I've been doing some wikipediaing and it describes the following:http://e…

In case you didn't know-plan-g works very nice with xplane-and a nice way to explore unfamiliar places:Just go to the plan-g website:http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/planG.htm Then get this plugin:http://tosi-online.d...IPC/XPUIPC.htmlRun the fs database in plan g (I think you have to have fs installed).Have fun!

My suggestions for improving Flight realism in the C-172 and helping new pilot to develop good habit.Maybe someone at Laminar Research will see that.1. Working ELT (activate on hard landing), add ELT switch on panel (On/Off) for testing purpose (with corresponding sound on 121.50 for example);2. Working Hobbsmeter (like the plugin);3. Add external objects, removable during the preflight walk around (Wheel choke, Pitot cover, Cowl plugs, Tie Down Rope, Rudder lock, Tail rope);4. Add internal objects to check during preflight (Hand brake handle, Key on Sun Shade, Removable Control lock plate, Fire extinguisher (gauge in green), First Aid Kit in openable glove box;5. Touchi…

Here are a few of the things I miss from one simulation family (MSFS) to another (X-Plane)...Slew ModeWhen working with XP scenery design tools like WED 1.1b4, it is a royal pain to have to start the sim and taxi or fly to the area I am working on to check alignments and make sure things look good. In MSFS, I can quickly SLEW right over and check it out... in XPlane, no such mode exists that I can find. I can't seem to figure out a good alternative to slewing when working on scenery in XP's demo. Ideas?Greater than 6x AccelerationTime acceleration appears to top out at 6x in X-Plane. This greatly extends the real-world amount of time I'd need to invest in a long flight, a…

Hello MortonMDid you put a tunable DME in the Piper Archer III because of the way the sim handles The DME. ( i.e. the DME doesn't ID itself properly even though it is showing the proper distance to NAV1 frequency, it IDs a different frequency Stuck on the default frequency of 111.70)?How is the DC 3 coming along, if you don't mind me asking?

Could a couple of somebodies out there give a check on this?My DME won't ID itself properly. The DME will give the correct distance to the VOR tuned to NAV1 or NAV2, but when asked to ID itself, it gives the last VOR that was tuned in by a tunable DME. The only aircraft I can find that has a tunable DME is MortonM's Piper Archer III. I guess by tuning a VOR in that aircraft, the frequency stays in preferences after leaving that aircraft.I would like someone to check that there DME functions properly without the Piper Archer III being installed. I hate to have to take all my preferences out just to check this. I will if I have to, that is if no one checks for me.I have t…
