  1. Hi, Going to build a new PC this week to use X-Plane 10 and just after some advice. Processors: Intel i5 3570k OR Intel i7 3770k OR AMD Piledriver 8350. All will be overclocked. Is the i7 ALOT better than the i5? Is the AMD better as its 8 core? Graphics Card: NVidia 2GB 660 TI OR Nvidia 2GB 670 OR AMD 3GB 7970. Ive heard AMD aren't as good for X-Plane but not sure. Hard Drive: Going to get a 256GB SSD for the Windows 8 and another 256Gb SSD just for X-Plane 10. Will an SSD make a lot of difference if I was to use a dedicated 1TB 7200rpm Hard Drive instead? Any help really appreciated Matt

  3. I've decided to try to design my next machine to be optimized for XPlane 64bit while still being able to run FSX reasonably well (as in significantly better than my current 5 y/o Q9650/280GTX). Thoughts? I'm ok waiting up to a year if need be. I keep thinking 6+ cores is best, but it never hurts to be able to do a decent o'clock as well.

  4. ....why you have the most realistic-looking water bodies of any simulation, period! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm presently in a flight with the Cessna 172, over Lake Simcoe, in central Ontario, Canada. I shake my head in amazement, that you folks (Laminar) have nailed water color, how light affects (I do run with HDR as a constant) it, and and how the surface shade CHANGES with angle of view, as in real life depiction. You probably won't state as to what techniques you used to achieve this visual output, but in a way it frustrates me that a Mega and heavy such as Microsoft, with it vast franchise experienc…

  5. I have noticed that on some custom scenery, I have had occasion that I will drop to 7 FPS, and stay there at taxi. By accident, I discovered that if I left full screen mode, and switched to window mode, my FPS shot right back to where they should be, at 30 FPS. I have noticed that if I was originally in window mode, and had low and chunk FPS, I merely had to switch to full-screen, and that would restore my 30 FPS, and animation smoothness. It seems to be the act of SWITCHING to the 'other' of what you had when getting low frame rates, more than it was either or. Possible rendering bug in 10.21 If anybody experiences low FPS rates, try out what I noted, and please…

as I mentioned earlier in another thread, I have a feeling that owners of Xplane 10 will maybe see a conversion of the popular FSX 737 NGX ported over or a new Boeing 787 Secret Project that will be announced very soon  The NGX made a lot of profit and if I were an employee at PMDG, I would sure try to release it on another platform to make more profit. What do you guys/gals think of our SOON TO BE RELEASED XP10 Payware? I bought it for FSX and I will buy it again for xpx64 :good: I wonder if CaptainSim will come over to our XPX house and play

Hey all, Set up X-Plane tonight to checkout the X-Aviation J32 add-on I picked up (btw, WOW). When I went to assign the various axes to my Warthog, all of the drop down menus were flashing and I was unable to make any selections. The little bars light up with the movement of the Warthog just fine (The "red" bar before you get it assigned and it becomes "green"), but it goes haywire the second I click the dro-down box to make the assignment. I have tried restarting, different resolutions, as well as windowed mode....all to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks!

Is there a list somewhere, which shows which Carenado planes have been updated to V2? When I log into my Carenado account I see updates for some of my purchases, but many of these updated are old and not for the latest X-plane version. I know some were updated and some are not, How do I know, is there an announcement page somewhere? Rob

For those who like to fly about the Netherlands, Europe, there’s currently, using X-Plane’s default ground textures, not much fun with. While living in the middle of the province Flevoland, the default ground textures are far from real, but this is the same for all other Dutch locations. For Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX you’ve got NL2000 with their photo real scenery, but for X-Plane there’s now SimHeaven. They recently updated an almost complete set with ZL 17 (Zoom Level). Zoom Level 17 offers ground tiles with an approximate resolution of 1.2 m/pixel which is ideal for VFR flights. You can check it out at the dedicated SimHeaven ZL17 NED web page. When I’ve got this…

  15. What a weekend this has been, folks! What an eye-opener for sure. For this guy.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ......I see that 64 bit is the way of the future. The same XP10 rendering settings that I had been running with in your 64 bit mode and with smoothness, when firing up the sim under 32 bit mode, produced constant stutters from take off and up. 64 bit is the way to go for flight simming..... 16. As ORBX for the FSX.cfg wants you to have all libraries below their regionals, should you place in the Scenery Pack File, all object libraries at the very END of the file, so all scenery packs are above them and read first, or should you have them at the very first, so they load into memory BEFORE XPX reads any custom scenery packs? So...you XPX experts out there, where would you place/edit your library folders...beginning or end of the Scenery Pack File?

  17. ...that's what I'm finding. I am presently in a night flight (4:19 am) from KDTW to KMYR (Detroit Metro- Michigan, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Night flying, using XPX is beyond belief as everybody knows. I just needed to get that out once more myself. The cities, highways entering and leaving them, with that fabulous HDR lighting effects, makes it look, as if it is truly real-life down there. I know that I, and a number of other posters have said this ad infinitum, but the impact to the user is such, that you just keep shaking your head and smiling as you rack up the flight time and miles past the wings... Other things that I have only discovered (probably readi…

  19. Here is a video I made this evening to showcase the magnificant New Zealand freeware scenery created by Alpilotx downloadable from his website: http://www.alpilotx.net/ In this video I fly the Carenado Centurion CT210M II from Milford Sound to Queenstown, New Zealand. The aiport I arrive at in Queenstown was created by the equally talented Chris K downloadable from the x-plane.org website. I recommend you watch my video on youtube itself in full HD. Please click to watch. For some reason I cannot embed the link normally from youtube. Please click the link to play. It took me 30 minutes just to get my avsim post to accept this link. For some bizzare reason, only yo…

The last thing I need for perfection in xplane is photoscenery for my area. I notice that Gottfried over at Blue sky gives permission in his readme file to convert his excellent photo scenery via fsx2xplane to xplane! Great news! Every time I try though I get the message "error during conversion. No data found". Does anyone have a clue how to get it to work? Thanks!

  25. Ben has posted on the X-Plane Developer Blog that Release Candidate #1 for WED (World Editor) is now available. I think once it is final and user-created scenery is available via Laminar, that the landscape of the sim will be much improved over time. Here is the link for Ben's posting: http://developer.x-plane.com/2013/05/worldeditor-1-2-release-candidate-1-posted/
