I currently have the following system that I use for FSX. XPS 8700 Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Intel Core i7-4770 processor (8M Cache, up to 3.9 GHz) 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 2 DIMMs AMD RadeonHD 7570 1GB GDDR5 I am looking for a better graphics card. Any suggestions on what might work better with this system setup.. Thanks. Paintwagon

Finally had the chance to get a new monitor. I had an LG 27" HD TV using HDMI. It was pretty nice and I had clouds and textures pretty pleasing. Just got a 32" Insignia 1080p, I was almost afraid to turn it on, thought maybe I would lose some frames. No such thing happened. The difference between 720p and 1080p was remarkable. No frame loss, but the picture! I really wish all could enjoy 1080p. (the extra screen area is marvelous also)

  3. Hi Everyone, Turns out the 85" 4K Samsung is defective, getting crackling sounds and every now and then a momentary pixel pops up. With that said, I liked the 4K look so much I just worked out a deal with HHGregg to replace the defective Samsung for three Samsung 75" 4K's (UN75JU6500FXZA). Waiting on a delivery date, they are in a warehouse in Orlando. Now to get to work on a new table to support these sets. This is, A. unexpected and B. very exciting... I wasn't thinking about adding additional exterior views at this time. I was a bit disappointed in the Optima EH200 projector dusk/night/dawn visuals, then overwhelmed by the 4K... Now I'll have three. UPDATE: They…

  4. Hello, I would appreciate some advice on a second monitor, I have been using one for many years to drag windows accros such as ASN, Plan-G, FMC's, etc. This monitor is 1280-1024 and it always worked great. However this device (ViewSonic) has reached the end of its life. I am having problems finding the same size Monitor ( live in Canada), all I can find are 1600x900 of the 20" sizes. The question is what impact would this have on my system?? I run a 3770K at 4.4GHZ and a EVGA 780SC card. My main monitor is a 23" Samsung. Sorry for the long question. Helmut

Hi Ok a short while ago I was undecided weather to go down the sli 780ti route or to go fo a single 980ti I have since decided that for me the single card is possibly the long term better option. However I have the problem now of which one to get,I prefer EVGA cards but thats not a game decider I'm looking for the best I can get as I don't want to be changing again in 18months time so I want to get one that is likely to be still around then. I quite like the look of this one http://www.scan.co.uk/products/6gb-evga-gtx-980-ti-hydro-copper-pcie-30-(x16)-7010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1140mhz-boost-1228mhz-cores-2816-3x but as I'm not to worried on noise are there better optio…

  8. Started by Dougal,

I have two monitors attached to the video card (GTX570): main monitor is on the single HDMI port 2nd is on a DVI port. When the PC boots, all BIOS and POST data shows ONLY on monitor 2 from the DVI port. Only after Windows7 boots, do the screens change priority. Is this normal? How can I get the PC to boot using the main screen? Also, in Windows7 display settings, I can’t find a way of actually disabling the 2nd monitor (for gaming etc) Any help appreciated

So I have a pretty decent machine: i7 4790K 16GB RAM 120 SSD for OS 250GB SSD for sims Sapphire R9 290 (x 2 in crossfire - yes I know FSX/P3D does not take advantage of it) So I was pretty happy (games run GREAT in that setup) until I learned about the nuances of FSX with AMD cards.... I have the possibility of maybe upgrading/rebuild another PC I have, so I thought of making an almost equal build but with a GeForce card instead (Thinking of the 970) but then looking at reviews and benchmarks, seeing it doesn't perform as well, and then thinking (maybe wrongly) that most nuances are with DX10, I was wondering: Is it worth to build this secon…

Hello all, I'm wondering if I can get some advice from the pro's in this forum? I'm currently running P3D 2.5. My monitor is on it's last legs and I'm looking at a new one. I've researched this quite a bit but there seems to be a difference of opinion and it's based on hard core gaming. Should I buy a 60hz, IPS monitor, a 144HZ monitor or a Gsync type? I get about 80 FPS at altitude, 20-30 FPS at a busy airport and about 10 FPS at CYYZ. With these frame rates, does it make sense to get a top of the line Gsync monitor or should I stick to a 60Hz? Is there a real benefit and will you notice the difference using a 144HZ? I am eventually thinking of setting up …

  12. Hi, I've encountered a very odd problem: All of the sudden I'm not able to change the program settings in the Nvidia Control Panel anymore. I can change the settings and click Apply. But once I exit the Nvidia control panel and reload it, all the settings are back to where they were before I made any changes. I use a GTX660 under Windows 8.1 and driver version 334.89. I'm using this combination for almost 1,5 years now and never had any problems. I also haven't changed anything on my system. So I'm really clueless on how to fix this. Any help would be much appreciated!

Good Morning Guys, I just bought myself a new rig, and also bought a GSync Monitor as I have read really good things about this feature. Can someone please show what settings you run for GSync or how to configure it? Thanks a lot!

  14. Hi Guys, Anoth exciting PC build coming my way, and yours if you want to assist with confirming GPU card....Lol I have tried doing as much research as possible and I am aware of the the nummber of tikes this question, or silular questions keep coming up. But you never know if there's someone out there who has a simular build just completed and are able to give the news. Maybe good, or maybe bad...lol However were my question might change the angle of attack is that I plan to run Tripple Screens, 1x 24"ASUS MK241H with 2 new x Dell U2412M, all 1920x1200 native. I am planning to play, I mean seriously fly, FSX-SE. The three cards under consideration are: Gig…

Hi, I read in another post that that it's not possible to run three spanned monitors and use a 4th touch screen. Which makes sense. I'm only running two monitors as individual displays and I'd like to add a third touch screen monitor. I assume this shouldn't be a problem, but I'd really like to have it confirmed by someone who is running a similar config. The touch screen would be dvi connected, with a usb connection to enable the touch function. Hopefully someone can put my mind at ease! Thanks.

I think its probably time to improve on my poor old GTX570. Considering I only use a single 23" monitor at 1920x1280, is there any point going above something like a GTX960 with 4GB of DDR5? Some great bargains on those now,

  17. Hi, Thinking of 'investing' in a Philips BDM4065UC/00 UHD 40-Inch Monitor for FS9 & FSX. Does anyone actually have this? It gets great reviews on Amazon. I would run FS with this as the main monitor. On a second monitor (HannsG 28") I'd run just maps and suchlike extras (FS Navigator in FS9). I guess my GPU would cope with the 40" monitor (3840x2860 res) and the 28" together (as I say, latter not used for any part of FS9/FSX themselves) - nVidia GTX970/4GB)? Anyone see any disadvantages here? Or anything else I should consider before parting with the not insubstantial outlay? Is 40" too big for viewing at about arm's length?? (I am also thinking about watc…

Hi, My EVGA 770 Classified 4gb does a good job with P3D v3 but I'm torn whether to add a second 770 and go SLI (new step to me!). Or should I buy a single more modern card - e.g. gtx 970. The cost is similar and within my budget. Also, if I go SLI will my Corsair 850 watt power supply be up to it? PC: i5 at 4.7 Ghz Liquid cooled on Asus P8Z68-V Pro Cheers Chris

  19. Hi guys, I am currently looking around and trying to design a build for FSX. So for I am considering the GTX 970 MSI Twin Frozer, but do I need that much for FSX? I want to get smooth FPS, so not neccesarily 30 FPS, and will be 1080P. Addons I am going to be running are PMDG 737, 777, and 747. I also do have scenary for Seattle and other locations, and do have an external weather engine, which I plan to upgrade later. DX10 does look awesome with the cockpit shadows, and so I might possibly get Steve's DX10 fixer, although I can forgo this if it isn't worth it. In terms of cost, it is not set in stone, I just would generally like to keep the whole build less than 1000 if p…

Good afternoon hardware junkies, I have just upgraded my GPU from a Radeon 7850 to a EVGA GTX 980Ti. I gotta say, best investment I have made on this 3 year old computer. (i5-3550, 8gb RAM). I am faced with a question though, I have a monitor (Samsung) that is capable of both DVI and HDMI. I am currently using HDMI, is there any advantage of moving to DVI? I have an extra one of those cables laying around. Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi everyone I am back in the basement for the winter and my Hanns-G 28"monitor will not start.I am presently using a Visio 32" HDTV that is going to another place.I originally thought the picture was not as sharp as my monitor but now I am getting used to it and it looks OK.I like sharpness but I also like a bigger screen that comes with HDTV at comparable pricing.Any advice will be greatly appreciated.Would like to go no smaller that 32".Now I am updating all my stuff that has been neglected while I am outside.Ill is not the place to be in winter except for grandkids and holidays. Thanks,Ron

The coming week I will be testing a GTX 980 Ti (as a possible replacement for my GTX 780) in Prepar3d v3 but I was wondering what I have to think about before testing the card: - can I simply replace the card and that's it or do I have to reinstall the nVidia driver in Windows 10 64 bit (last week I installed the latest one)? - do I have to empty the shaders folder? - can I keep the current P3D.cfg or should I create a new one? Any other things I have to think about...?

Ok some may have seen I asked in another post inquiring about which gtx980ti to buy,but on reading some other posts on monitors I'm now wondering if a monitor upgrade should be on the cards I'm very restricted for room, so the best at the moment i can get is a single 24in monitor. I've had a look around and I can get a dell 24in 4k monitor for a reasonable price, so should i buy a monitor or graphic card first? Currently I'm running a dvi connected monitor in 1920-1080p with a gtx780ti 3gb card. I plan on basing my sim around p3d v3 so although at the moment my card is probably fine for my current setup I would really like to move the sliders more right, which i'm g…
