Hello all,I really need some help here. I recently upgraded to the Nvidia 6600gt from using the old ancient Nvidia 5900FXWell now my flight sim just looks flat out worse than with the 5900FX. Specifically in terms of the MIP and "flickering" of the mesh issues. I set the MIP Maps to 4 like suggested everywhere..but its still as if its on 6. The flickering really ruins it for me..when i set the MIP Map to 3 its just blurry and still some flickering even then. Ive reformmatted, new drivers..all of that jazz u name it i tried it. I played around with Overclocking the graphics card, and have kept it at default as well..same results. Is there something I'm missing? I'v…

I have 2 monitors, and noticed tha nView was invoked when I installed drivers. Is it possible to invoke this utility at any time other than when a driver re-install is occuring, and if so, how do I find the executable to invoke it? I don't see anything on my system, either in Programs or in Desktop Properties to start it. I do see nView.dll on my system though.Thanks- Bruce.

hi again, because i want to get a new system in the next week, i would like to know your experiences with dual core processors. i know that fs9 is not providing dual core at the moment, but will i have the full power (for example athlon 3800+) of both cores or will only one work so tha t i will only have about 2ghz available for fs? or will they provide full power of 3800ghz if i need them in high etailed sceneries with pmdg747 for example? i didn`t find any thread that gives me a clear answear to this... so, if anyone uses the athlon x2 3800+ and a similar gpu(msi 7800gt, 256mb), could you please post how many fps you get with high scenery, aircraft, weather and traffic?t…

Hi,I just replaced my old ATI Radeon 9800 128 Mb AGP, with a X850 Pro 256 Mb AGP.What I can not understand is why the new card leaves the sim with poorer framerates than the older card. :-hmmm First I installed the drivers from the CD in the box. Then I tried the newest drivers from the ATI site,...without success. I use the same settings as the old card in the control center.So,...now I ask all o you who have the X850 Pro card,...which drivers you find to be the absolutely fastest available today? Thanks for any constructive replies. :-)http://www.scandicair.com/images/sa_banner.gifMy specs are:Dell Dimension 4600 P4/3.0 Ghz1024 Mb DDR333 Dual channel memory (2x256,1x512)…

Is there a way to control how much time will elapse before XP locks your screen? Right now it happens way too soon and I have to keep logging back in (password) to get back in. It is really annoying but I see no options to control this timeout, does anybody know?Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

HiI have noiticed that some sound cards come with a 15 pin joystick connector. Does the computer detect this the same as if the motherboard had the 15 pin connector. I am asking this, is because my joystick is old, but much better than some of the stuff you get today, and in my old computer the motherboard had a 15 pin connector making flight-sim easy to play. Now, i have to use a usb/gameport and the controls are much different and i am finding it horrendsly difficult to calibrate/control the plane and joystick.thanks.

Just bought new notebook yesterday and installed fs2004 with 9.1 update and all my favorite aircrafts and scenery. Sony Vaio with 1.86GhZ Centrino processor, 1024mb RAM and ATI X700 grafic (256MB-128(shared)) memory. Problem:Wenn airplane loaded i can see it only 2-3 seconds, wenn black screen and message about FS restart and problem with msvcr70.dll. I tried with PIC737 and addon scenery or with default Cessna in Maigsfield. also tried to kill fs9.cfg and restarted, nothing good happend.Maybe it is because this notebook has widescreen? But all new notebooks have widescreen. I don't know which resolution to set, because all aircrafts look very ugly, because they are wide.…

Hi all,we all search for a good way of optimizing our FS installation. One of the bootleneck is the Hard Disk speed and the huge amount of information on FS directories.FS already allows to put scenery directories all among our hard disks (for those that have plenty ;-)Aircraft directory (and surely other) are full of plane and I'll like to put ut on a less loaded hard disk (another S-ATA channel for e.g). Unfortunetly, FS doesn't allow it.I juste found a small tool that allow making hardlink (are you using unix ?) on file but also on directories : http://www.flexhex.com/docs/articles/hard-links.phtmlI do not have tested it yet. Do someone know a tips, a tools, a solution…

Due to very bad FS2004 performance on my current computer (PIV3Ghz, MSI 865PE NEO2 PFISR, 1024MB DDR Corsair Valueselect (2X512), ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB, Maxtor 120GB ATA Harddisk 7200rpm, Maxtor 200GB SATA Harddisk 7200rpm) I am thinking about upgrading.I have got a system like this in mind:Antec Sonata II 450WattASUS A8N-SLIAMD Box Athlon 64 3800+ Venice (S939)Current Corsair Memory (2X512)Asus 256Mb EN7800GT PCI-ESamsung 250Gb SATA II 8MbWhat do you guys think about a configuration like this? My "problem" is that I am a bit scared to upgrade. Not sure if FS2004 will run that better with AA en AF enabled. I know that Vista and FSX will be released this year. Dual Co…

I have a 3 year old computer with a 2.6 gig CPU, 1 gig RAM and a geForce Ti4200 graphics card. Would I see a significant performance improvement if I were to upgrade the card to perhaps a geForce 6600GT? I fly primarily in VC mode and wondered if this would help my frame rates. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I heard there was a new NVidia Card, 7800 AGP, that is not a PCI Express version. Is that true, and what do you think would be the difference in FS9 over a 6800GT 256 card? I will buy one tomorrow if someone who's tried it tells me that there is a SIGNIFICANT difference.

Is anyone running or considering running FS through a HDTV? These new 26-27" WXGA sets have fairly good resolution, good built-in sound, and prices are favourable compared to widescreen monitors and projectors. Is WXGA resolution supported in fs2004?Neil

I am planning to buy a new system, main FS-relevant features being Athlon 4000, GeForce 6800GT, 1GB RAM (I have yet to decide on mobo).Given that I run AI and ActiveSky, will I finally get reasonable framerates (at least in the mid twenties)? What should I expect? Any suggestions? My current system is (don't laugh) a P4 2.4, GeForce Ti4200 and 512 MB RAM; FS brings it to its knees, like 2-3 FPS (perhaps even worse) in some situations. How much faster would the above-mentioned new system be compared to this one in FS?Thanks in advance.Nicolas in CYOW

First, the background: I just "upgraded" my video adapter from a FX 5200 to a so-called "OC" 6200. My PC is an e machines with a AMD Athlon 64 CPU and a rather sorry FSB speed of 333 mhz. I'm using Win XP and have 512 MB RAM. Actually, I've been doing pretty well with this PC, getting around 25 FPS with complex aircraft as long as I keep the AI traffic turned down to 50% or so and keep the autogen scenery down around the middle. Now the question: Should I have been surprised when I got a significant *decrease* in frame rate with this newer card? (I was.)My solution is simple -- I put the 5200 back and aim to carry the 6200 back for a refund. But I'm curious as to wh…

Hi, my computer specs. is:AMD 64 3200+ | 1GB Ram | eVGA 6600GT 128mb PCI-eI spent sometime reading reviews. It looks like a 7800GT 256MB generally doubles the FPS comparing to a 6600GT in game benchmarks. (However they of course use a faster CPU for the test, AMD 64 4000+)My question is, although I don't really expect doubled FPS, would it be worth it (performance gain) to upgrade my 6600GT to a 7800GT? My second choice whould be a ATI X850XT. They are about $300 and $200.Thank you!Jason

Hello all,I have made some changes to my pc last month, some new zalman fans,a new dvd writer and stuff.Anyway then I had a format and then reinstalled xp.After then,I do not know why,but whenever I want to record a video using fraps, the recorded video's sound is highly distorted, noisy and very very bad.I can't even take it for 3-4 seconds to hear it.Anyway this same problem also occurs with audio cds too. They sound very bad in windows media player too.Tried many other players but the same.Well for instance, after the dvd writer plugged in to my system, whenever I wanted to watch videos, they had no sound, until I installed the AC3 filter.Well there might be some problem with …

Hi,I had noticed that flying demanding add-ons caused a MAJOR slow down of FS9, stutters the works! I would experience blisteringly fast FPS and then extremely slow FPS making the game unplayable! I have tried for many hours to solve this problem. I now think it is solved. FS9 was running under two cores. By going into task manager and selecting "Affinity" under the FS9.exe select only one core. This appears to have solved my problem. Also if you go to;http://www.robpol86.com/Pages/imagecfg.phpYou can apply this change permanently. Does anyone have anymore information on FS9 and dual cores/stability?Cheers,Paul
