Hi all, I am currently running and AMD64 3500 Venice on an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard. I currently have (2) sticks of CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200). I'd like to upgrade to a total of 2G of RAM using (2) more sticksof the same so I don't have to eat the first 2 sticks. I've heard that doing so the RAM may be downgraded to a slower speed. I've also heard or read that with the Venice core that the memorycontroller can now handle this without the ram speed being downgraded. Any info regarding this would be most helpfull as I can't seem to locate anything but conflicting info online. Help from a h…

Hi,As and when the dx10 cards appear I am planning on building a "super system" for FSX.I just read on TomsHardware that games cannot take advantage of more than 2 physical cores. Can anyone shed any light on this? I always imagined the more cores the better... so I was planning on getting a quadro, but as my only power hungry application is MSFS is there any point?I wonder with the release of Vista and then the patch for DX10 whether FSX is likely to be updated to take advantage of these 4 (or more) cores. As the life of FSX is at least 2 years I imagine... and the chipmakers are moving in the "more cores is progress" direction, then FSX won't run any better on the techno…

I have posted about this problem before and was never fixed so I will see if I can get some help now.I have a clone 3.2 P4 with a ATI X800 video card with 256 ram on board.I have 1 gig on DDR ram on the mother board.I just reformatted my HD and reinstalled XP Pro and all the service packs and updates, than reinstalled FS9.I installed the update and than added in 3ed party scenery{Simflyers airports and UT and GE with updates}I have the settings in FS9 as all normal and have tweaked it again per the different threads on getting better frame rates and here's the kicker,I am getting frame rates of 3-4 fps on default planes at default airports. What am I doing wrong here as I s…

Said computer is likely to have the following specs; Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon "Woodcrest" Processors, 4MB shared L2 cache per processor. 1.33GHz dual independent frontside buses. 64 Bit.1GB (2 x 512MB), 667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC (upgrade to 2GB Later)And an ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB for graphics.I might be getting it soon but haven't fully decided yet. It'll have XP installed initially and Vista when it's ready. The thing I'm not sure about is will FS9 be able to run with this computer even though it has 2 Dual cores? As far as I'm aware, FS9 doesn't recognize dual cores processors. Is this true? So it runs FS single core but both @ 2.66Ghz?Does FSX suppor…

After reading many posts about Filemon, I decided to give this utility a go to try and resolve some minor stutters I have been experiencing. On reviewing the filemon log after a typical stuttering flight, it would appear I have a culprit. The NOT FOUND files fall into two main types:1. EFFECTS.FX - from reading other posts, it would appear if a particular fx file cannot be found it, FS9 will look for this file - to no avail. How do I identify the rogue fx file responsible for this?2. Missing *.agn files. Many of these, e.g. 006b2an1.agn. I presume these are autogen texture files (but I could be wromg). If these are missing, where do I get hold of a copy to rectify the…

OK, so all this building your own PC is seriously confusing!!Can anyone tell me the difference between SATA and SATA2 HD's please?I was getting 2 160GB Western Caviars (7200) which are SATA2, but now I'm wondering about getting a single Raptor (10,000) which is SATA.Also, if I use a Asus P5W, will it be possible to plug in my 3 1/5 old hard drive still?Sorry, dumb questions I know, but I've no idea where else to ask. I could do with an expert in the UK on the phone :-)Cheers in advance for any tips.

As i've been reading..it seems like upgrading to an expensive dual core rig just isn't worth it right now for FSX. I'm wondering if i were to upgrade to a AMD 64 3700+ Clawhammer core and maybee adding another gig of ram would do me justice for running FSX. i know SXM and the demo aren't the whole package but i get good enough fps and smoothness flying around already. to save me some money i just dont think its justifiable to get a whole new rig...especially since DX10 and vista havnt come out yet. and when vista does come out i can already use that and upgrade my graphics card with my current rig. will that AMD64 3700+ processor be enough horse power?thx

Hi,I hope this is the right forum to post this in, sorry if it is not and feel free to move it.I have been getting very low frame rates from FS9 and I am beginning to wonder if there is soemthing wrong with my computer and harware as I think I should be getting much hight FPS with my system. I get about 14-22 FPS in 2D cockpit (dropping to 12 at some airports). In the VC I have never seen FRS above abour 12 but on descent this often drops to 4-6!! I have just bought TrackIR but with those FPS it make flying from the VC impossible. The mentioned FPS are in LDS 767, PMDG 737NG/747 and PSS 777 as I dont really fly anything else.I would be interested in what other people have…

Ok, I got past the BIOS problems that were locking me out. I then inserted a new hard drive in place of my old primary (I had two physical drives, partitioned to four logical drives. When I installed windows on the new master ide drive at position 0, drive 0 etc. It became drive G and the slave was renamed to C and D. NOT, repeat NOT what I want. My question is this - how does the Windows OS determine the drive letters? I have two IDE buses, with two optical drives on one, and two hard drives on the other. I would like to lose one of the optical drives, and put my old 40G hard drive there. In other words - to have three physical hard drives in my machine. I want …

Hi all,When I install an external hard drive via usb2.0(e.g. a 7200 rpm,250 GB,480 Mbits/sec transfer speed), can it be used to install FS9 on it and run FS9 with about the same performance as on an internal hard drive? Or is an external hd only to be used as a backup tool?I am running out of memory on my 40 GB internal...:( Frans

I have according to MB mnual set up two 160 Gb HD in raid 0 configuration. They areas expected treated as one c: drive. But it is reported that this drive is about 300 Gb big. That does not make sense for me. Because configured as raid 0 does not give the added space. During installation everything went as expected according to the manual. I have a Asus A8V deluxe mb.

I currently have an Intel 540J 800 FSB 3.2GHx HT running on my Asus P5P800 with LGA775 socket and 865PE chipset. Oh yes, 2GB of PC3200 and ATI X850XT AGPx8 256MB.I am thinking of upgrading the CPU. Checking the ASUS website for a list of supported CPUs I came accross these possible upgrades :-P4-561 3.6GHz 800 FSB L2 1MB-P4-570J 3.8GHz 800 FSB HT-P4-660 3.6GHz E 800 FSB L2:2MB EM64T, HT-P4-670 3.8GHz 800 FSB L2:2MBShould I bother ? Would I see a noticeable improvement in performance ?Thanks for any suggestions...:-)

I've been having a problem recently with my CH Products Yoke & Pedals. It started a week or so ago when the yoke starting drifting to the left, even though it was recieving no input from myself. If I left it alone, and watched the input in the CH control manager or in FSUIPC, it would randomly start to drift to the left. This problem seems to have stopped now, but it's started with the pedals. Again, leaving them alone, you can see the rudder drifting to the left, causing inputs to become very sluggish just like the problem I had with the yoke.I find it quite bizarre that I've got exactly the same problem with each bit of kit, yet at separate times. The pedals are always…

I bought a pentium 4 2.88 CPU to replace the 2.0 CPU I have had in my machine for the past 4 years or so. It is a Gateway machine, with a socket 478 CPU pin architecture.THe replacement CPU arrived from my ebay seller today - obviously used, but seemed ok. I popped it in to the motherboard, made sure it was firmly seated, and the retention pin was back down. Put back the heat sink and fan, and tried to boot the machine - nothing. Not even a POST test that I could hear. The lights on the machine (the backlit lcd under the power button) are normally green when the machine is on, turned orange. THe monitor never responded. There was some brief disk activity but that w…

For some strange reason my mouse scroll wheel quit allowing me to scroll to adjust radio frequencies and other controls in FS9. It worked just fine then quit, then on the new installation on my new computer it never did work.I'm sure there is an easy fix but I've been searching and scratching my head for a couple weeks. Could someone point me in the direction of the fix or setting for this I'm at a loss? Mouse software is installed and up to date and I've tried two separate mouses/mice/meese.You don't realize what a nice feature this is until you don't have it.

After the AVSIM 2006 convention where I was totally blown away by the Matrox Triplehead2go and triple monitors with the Level-D 767, I am researching the possibility of getting the Triplehead2go for my DELL XPS system. The MATROX forum just told me that they expect to have compatibility for my existing ATI Radeon X850 XT PE card soon, but they say it will run at the following with Triplehead2go:3D resolution = max 1920x480 2D resolution = max 3840x1024Presumably, this means that the virtual cockpit rendition will be pretty awful if I have a triple 19" LCD set-up? I am just guessing and wonder if anybody knows exactly? But if this is so, what would be a good card to get t…

More importantly how long can you live with out it?(that computer that's just barely cutting the FS mustard) The answer for me was simple, not long enough for DX10 and vista that's for sure. I 'feel' like that combo is easily a year off, by the time we can all afford it and the first round of bugs are cleared off. I just put the cherry on my ice cream tonight and i could not be happier. I SLI'd 2 7600GT's oc'dwith my new E6400 core2duo 4 gigs of matched 800MHz RAM -->(overkill... my memory gage never gets above 33%)2 250gb 7200rpm Raid0 I can now happily sit back and watch the DX10 Vista revolution from the sidelines. Maybe this time next year i'll get the upgrade itch…
