Early next year, after Vista and FSX are out, I plan to upgrade my computer (presently a Dell XPS Dimension) to a more powerful system.1. I have looked the Dell XPS 700, but recently read some nasty comments in the newspapers about this machine. Is anyone familiar with this computer?2. I have also looked at the Falcon Mach V with Core 2 extreme, and the Alienware. Is anyone familiar with either of these two products?3. I would prefer to stick with Dell because I assume I can get better tech support because it is a larger company. Does anyone have experience with the tech support at Falcon or Alienware?4. Lastly, my local computer store guru told me that if I wanted…

Hi,Realising that I was still running Catalyst 5.10 I thought it was about time I updated the drivers, so I downloaded and installed the latest 6.8 drivers and ccc. Problem, I have 2 cards installed, an X800 pro driving my main monitor and a PCI Radeon 7500 driving 2 further monitors, however the 6.8 drivers no longer support the PCI card so I downloaded and installed the 6.5 drivers which were the last to support both my cards. Question, is it possible and safe to have 2 sets of ATI drivers installed at the same time? ie the 6.8 for the X800 and the 6.5 for the PCI card. Many thanks for your help.Pete.

  4. Well, after the AVSIM 2006 convention I have to say, FSX looks breathtaking. But,....we're all gonna need super-PCs to run it properly. I was taken aback how poorly it ran on most of the PCs at the convention except for a single VELOCITY PC where it ran smooth as butter in a beautiful PC box with deep blue fluorescent lighting. (A good VELOCITY PC costs anywhere from $4000 to $6000 and THEN you add stuff onto it to make it even better.)FSX is gonna come with many beautiful options but the display options (which are superb!) will prolly wreck my current FS PC which is already fairly well powered (3.80Ghz) but obviously rapidly getting out of date--and it's only 18 month…

I am currently running an ATI Radeon 9800XT 256 video card. It was top of the line about 2 years ago. I am curious if any current AGP video card is better and worth an upgrade? I am also adding extra gig of ram and will be replacing my processor with an Athlon 64 3400+. I currently have an Athlon 64 3200+ so I suspect the difference in performance will be minimal. However I got the 3400+ chip for cheap so I figure why not. I run the beta of FSX pretty darn well as long as I don't crank the water detail or AI planes. I don't have a lot of problem with car traffic detail or airport vehicle detail.

After a hardware failure in my current FS PC (A 3.8ghz P4) a few weeks ago, I ordered a new Intel Core Duo E6600 system which will arrive tomorrow. I was originally planning on building my own, but I just moved my parents down to my house to make their lives easier (No stairs) so I have boxes all over the place at the moment and no room to build a new system for a while. Since I can't wait (Always been a problem for me!!:D ) I ordered 1 from Gateway. It's a E6600 with 2GB 667Mhz DDR2 mem 512GB Raid 0 (2x256GB 7200RPM drives) and a X1900 512MB Crossfire card. (Only option available for this system, other than dual X1900 cards.) I was going to go for an Alienware with simi…

I searched the forums for anything to do with Anisotropic Filtering in FSX and didn't find anything about it regarding the context of my post. Here are my observations. I recently purchased a new video card and set it to 8xAA and 16xAF. My performance in FSX was terrific, especially the smooth, silky feel. While rummaging through the settings inside FSX I noticed that I had filtering set to "anisotropic". Thinking back to FS9.1 where we disabled AA inside the sim when we had AA enabled on the video card I thought the same might now apply to AF in FSX. When I disable AF in FSX my FPS jumped about 70%. I couldn't believe it so I switched AF on and off a couple times in…

I may want to go for a coffee, or relax on the sofa while listening to the engines drone. In fact, I'm thinking that I may only want to use the TrackIR device for shooting a visual approach.I think I want get one, but close to AUD 300 is quite a price.Mike.

Yes version 1 gemeport FFB joystick is enduring here from old FS2000 times!! It has been a very good companion giving only minor glitches, but now the trigger button is giving up the ghost and FFB mechanism is starting to have a too large play... so it's completely dead for a short movement then "Clack!" as sudenly as the motor slider touches the stick... Hi,I have a strange problem, from time to time it appears my AA is switched off automatically in FS leaving all edges very bad looking. I'm using 4xAA and 16xAF via the hardware settings and I have AA disabled in FS per recommendation. When this happens I can fix the problem (with FS still running) by going into the display settings for my Gfx card and change the AA for example from 4x -> 6x. Then the FS window is updated and everything looks smooth and fine again until this happens the next time when I change back to 4x AA and the problem is fixed again and this keeps happening over and over again...I'm using an ASUS EAX1900XTX with Catalyst drivers shown in the pic b…

When I am running FS9, flying the PMDG 747 & FS2crew occassionaly the program freezes and I get an error message saying that the system does not have enough virtual memory and will close up FS9. It also says to free up some memory on my hard drive using diskcleanup. Well I ran diskcleanup and I still get the message. Any ideas. Thanks.I got this headset and it works fine on my PC with fs9, Skype, etc. However, when I try and use it on my Mac, the microphone doesn't work. 23. It was time for a new video card to get me through to the mass release of DX10 cards sometime early next year. I decided to measure the frame rate improvement between my former 256MB ATI X800XT and my new 512MB ATI X1900XTX cards. The test wasn't too scientific but did provide measurable (subjective) results. With the computer freshly restarted using the X800XT (set at 4xAA, 8xAF) I started FSX Beta (all default setting except changed to 1280x1024x32 and unlimited frames) and started the default flight. The instant the flight appeared and fully loaded and stabilized I hit pause and recorded the FPS. I was showing 17.5 - 20.2.I then removed the X800XT and added the new …

I'm currently building a new system for FSX. It's gonna be E6600+P5W mobo+2GB_DDR2_800 etc.I still havent' decided yet about GPU. As all of us have known, FS is more dependend on CPU+RAM combination rather then on GPU. So the question is whether it's reasonable to invest into 7600GT (~$180) and save $100 on 7900GT?Thanks for you responseDmitriy
