Hi just a couple of quick questions:I know that takes a lot of resources, and there can be multiple listings, but mine currently says, and usually always above 100,000K, is that normal? Also they have deferent user names, some under NETWORK SERVICE, some under LOCAL SERVICE and some SYSTEM, is that also normal? Thanks

Well, not related to the defrag thread, but relevant to it insofar as loading times are concerned! One other thing I also noticed recently, I purged my FS2004/Texture main folder of all the textures no longer in use. A lot of `clever` developers use the main texture folder as a repository for textures to reduce file sizes, as one set of textures can be used for multiple aircraft instances in the aircraft folder.Unfortunately, not a single one of them has been clever enough to devise an uninstaller that then removes their textures if you delete the aircraft. As a result, you can end up with a heap of texture files that are, quite literally, a waste of space after you thoug…

Is there such a thing as too much or too frequent defragmentation?I find that I defrag several times a day after flying and video making.Thanks. Scott

I have two small pieces of what appear to be dried packaging glue or some sort of packaging gum on the left side of my 24" DELL LCD. They're both small, about 1/8 or 1/4 ", but definitely visible on the lower left side of the monitor when the monitor is off. I think it's leftover resideue from the packaging glue or gum. Can anybody suggest a safe method for me to remove these little specks? Thanks!JS

Hi, first post, here we go..I have a 3G pentium, 1Gig RAM, but only an X300 graphics card, which I believe uses 128Mb motherboard memory. Normally I am happy with the frame rates, around 25 most of the time, only dropping to 12-14 when approaching big airports. But, the thing that really annoys me is when I suddenly look sideways, it takes a couple of seconds to fill in the ground textures square by square. I also get pauses when using spot view to pan around the sky.7300GT cards are pretty cheap and by my reconing should be about 5x quicker than the X300, it also has 256mb of its own memory. Will one of these improve the above problems? or will it just make framerates quic…

Okay, I've searched the forum a couple of times and can't find anything here to help me, so I figured I'd ask -I've recently run into a problem with my eVGA GeForce 7800GT. I had it early on with it, but I'd managed to fix it somehow (just went away one day) and it's come back again. The problem is that after loading FS and switching windows, I will get a problem where any modules working on top of FS (like Squawkbox or FSNav) and all ToolTips will cause the screen to freeze below from the top of that pop-up down. It only occurs with FS9 so it's something with it. I've tried reverting back to 77.77 and several others to no avail. I'm currently running 91.31 right now b…

Hello,I have had this issue for a long time but it just became harder to deal with when I installed my new SAAB addon. The SAAB is very sensitive to prop rpm on takeoff. What I have is an issue with the PROP RPM lever on the CH Yoke. It start out (with the lever fully forward) OK. But, if I reduce the RPM (pull it anywhere forward) it will never return to 100% when I push it back. I have the CH CMCC software and I calibrate regularly but to no avail.BTW - if I use my GOFLIGHT levers they work fine.Anybody seen this before or have any ideas? Thanks in advance,Ron SagelNEAR KCHS

Over the past few days my once flawless Sony 21" CRT began showing a fuzziness it has never shown before. Also along with this condition the display suddenly blacks out instantaneously, then restarts after making a popping sort of restartup sound. Are these behemoths repairable? The thing was top o the line at .22 grille pitch, perfect geometry and crystal clear IQ. Is there any hope for a repair, or is it time to upgrade? Is it possible the video card is causing this? My display is right at 3y old. Switching to an LCD for gaming and color photography is something I have not been looking forward to as this display has truly spoiled me.What is actually happening wh…

I have access to either a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz HT 631 2MB L2 Cache or a Pentium D dual core 2.8 Ghz 915 2MB L2 Cache x 2. I have tested both and it looks the same to me, being the Pentium D a bit slower, due to the slower clock speed I presume, and the fact I was not using a dual core enabled software.I have made some research and it appears the Dual Core CPU handles overclocking very well, so I could be able to ramp up the speed to achieve 3 Ghz with ease. My case is well ventilated and I have installed a third party CPU fan/heatsink that keeps the CPU well under 40 deg. celcius, so I believe I can do it with not much trouble. My question is what can I expect with FSX relate…

Hi all,Well, I finally got a new computer I went from a P4 2.8 1 GIG PC2700 DDR RAM160 GIG IDE HDX800PRO 256MB Vid Cardto thisCore 2 Duo E66002 GIG of some kind of DDR RAM250 GIG SATA HDGeForce 7600GT 256 MB DDR3Someone said I wasn't going to see a significant increase in performance in FS. Let me tell you, I almost lost control of my bodily functions when I fired up the PMDG 747 with VC at default Phoenix with UT at 72% all settings either full right or one notch short of it and AS6 so far (frames were set to unlimited my the lowest FPS I saw was 32, mostly in the high 40's though, and that was on the ground during the takeoff roll, amazing!) If you're thinking about up…

I am hoping someone can help me here. I will describve my setup. I have an ASUS A8N32-sli mobo. I have two evga 7800GTX cards. On the top card i have my main monitor which is a samsung 940BF LCD. on the bottom i have another samsung 940BF AND an LG 1952 LCD. Ok now when i am in FS i obviously use the one samsung montior for my main panel. When i undock my OVERHEAD panel to my second Samsung and then go into FULL SCREEN mode, all is good. BUT if i try and put my OVERHEAD panel in my second samsung monitor AND and FMS on my LG monitor it work OK BUT the resolution on the LG is 800X600 and there is absolutely nothing i can do to change this. i want all 3 to be 1280X1024. an…

When I zoom out, lines get wavy, such as letters, taxi way markers and lines, etc. Why does this happen? I have tried all types of settings such as performance for textures instead of high quality, high quality anistropic filtering, and othersDoes anyone have some settings that can help me get rid of this side effect? Thanks

I'm fortunate to try FS2004 in 2 different setups. One of them. AMD X2 4400 Dual Core CPU 2gig Ram 30" Apple Cinema Display GeForce 7800 GTX 512 Second system is AMD X2 4400 Dual Core CPU 2gig Ram 30" Apple Cinema Display ATI X1900XTX 512 As you can see both systems are similar except videocards. I noticed second system's (X1900XTX) performance on FS2004 is better then Nvidia one. More smoother. But ofcourse both cars are strong enough to run FS2004.

Well, I finally figured my sound problems to be an old sound card. I disabled it and used the onboard card and the sound was OK. I don't want the loss in frame rates and am going to buy a new card.I have read that Creative is a good card but that the drivers are bloated and offer lots of options that I don't want.I want a cheap card that will work with 2 speakers as that's all I have. I may upgrade in the future. What is good?JimCYWG

My HD just gave up the ghost. I'm not sure whether the problem is the drive or a controller failure. I'm using it as an excuse to upgrade to a Core 2 Duo system. I'm looking at the E6600. It also gives me another reason for moving to FSX with it's Dual Core capability. (Which I'm increasingly changing my initial reluctance too) My question is about overclocking it. Normally I don't ever consider this for it's risk and minimal performance boost. Reading some of the reviews of the Core Duo 2 E6600 though indicate ot may be possible to O/C this chip 4Ghz and still be stable. That could be a significant increase in performance, which would offset O/C negatives. I wouldn't eve…

OK, time for a change (needed, not just because I feel like). Not interested in what may happen or when it may happen regarding DX10/Vista, I'll deal with that when the time comes. In the meantime can a few of the experts here comment on how good this may be/what should be changed etc. Thanks in advance for your help. The following is pasted from the vendors site..........."Here is your chosen specification...CPU INTEL

I'm looking at getting a new system of which FS2004 and home entertainment will be my biggest priority with a move to FSX perhaps in a year. We'll see about FSX and the one year thing but a part of me wants to just enjoy 2004, learn to fly well and benefit from all the cheap/free stuff that will be around and a bunch of free add ons that my now live in brother is happy to share with me. Budget is paramount here.I'm new to Flight Simming and gaming as well and but am totally gaga over FS2004. It just clicks so many of my "interest" buttons that I know it's going to be a long term affair. I am not a techie or computer whiz at all. I've mostly just stumbled my way throu…

Hi all,I have the CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB and Rudder Pedals USB.The yoke has only so many buttons and I would like to have a few more to replace various keystrokes. I've thought of getting the CH Pro Throttle Quadrant just for the additional buttons, but that would be an expensive way to go for me. I've also considered a relatively inexpensive joystick just for the buttons, but I wonder if inadverdent slight twisting of the stick might interfere with rudder inputs from the pedals.Any suggestions would be appreciated, including specific hardware recommendations. Thanks,Sandy

Have a question on Internet Explorer settings. How do you delete search words from IE6?When I do a search within IE6, the words are saved somewhere. Let's say I was searching for "A320". When I go back to do another search this time for "A340", A320 is listed in the site search box.I have deleted cookies, files and cleared history from ToolsInternet Options, but the words still appear. The only way I have found to delete the words is by going through the alphabet and deleting every word from A, B, C, .... The has to be an easier way. Thanks,SD
