Hi Gang, this may seem like a strange question, but, is there any way that the sound settings in windows can be altered, or even the sound card.I have a Plantronics Audio 90 headset, it's very good, but I would like to crank up the volume slightly, as even with the sound volume on the in-line volume turned right up, it's still not that loud.and before anyone asks, no, I'm not deaf, but I would like to have the volume a bit louder for watching some of the downloaded video files, and music etc, some of them are very quiet.I do appreciate any help or suggestions that you might have,my sound card is a hercules digifire 7.1Thanks.

To all:Thanks for the valubale info I have gleaned from this form. I have tried different settings in both the FS9 config and also hardware tweaks i.e. AA and AF settings. Now i have scenery like I have never seen before. The remaining problem is FS9 is slow ot load and the whole screen doesn't show until the actual flight selection. It is now slow ot exit out of FS9 as well. Could this be the latency setting for the PCI bus? I believe I have my setup very close to what it should be.Any help or hints would be appreciated.I just upgraded to an AMD 64 bit 3500 CPU and an Asus A8V-Mx motherboard. My video card is a gigbyte GE Force FX5500 AGp with 256 MB. Ram is a pc3200…

Can anyone here with an Nvidia GeForce please outline the things I need to focus on to optimize FS2004 (not counting BIOS)?I put in a PNY 6600GT 256K AGP 8x out-of-the-box into a Celeron 3.2 1 GB Am-Megatrends BIOS... and using the Level-D 767 rolling on runway at a low-density airport (KMAF, Midland) my framerate only improved from 4 FPS on the integrated graphics to 8 FPS (!!) on the 6600 card. This is apalling, esp. when I have a target framerate of 40 FPS and much of the scenery is on "low". I was able to improve it to about 18 FPS by unchecking all the FS2004 > Display > Hardware boxes but still this is ####-poor considering I'm not even at KDFW or KLAX with…

Yeah,I mapped my mouse wheel on the X52 to be my trim wheel. So far it works great! Guess it's kinda of obvious and easy to do but it's nice.I just mapped trim up/down to a toggle, then used the Saitek stuff to remap the wheel up/down to the toggle.I'd done this before with the regular mouse wheel but that meant losing it's function to turn knobs etc. Not a nice trade-off. Ok, back to flying. :)

I have just bought a new rig. What is the best way to migrate my FS2004 stuff over? I have a ton of payware, and megs and megs of scenery etc. Don't want to re-install all of it, and don't want to spend hours and hours re-downloading. Can I make manual registry edits, or just install the game raw, then copy over the FS9 folder?

Hi all,I have the CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB and Rudder Pedals USB.The yoke has only so many buttons and I would like to have a few more to replace various keystrokes. I've thought of getting the CH Pro Throttle Quadrant just for the additional buttons, but that would be an expensive way to go for me. I've also considered a relatively inexpensive joystick just for the buttons, but I wonder if inadverdent slight rotation of the stick might interfere with rudder inputs from the pedals.Any suggestions would be appreciated, including specific hardware recommendations. Thanks,Sandy

Folks, I will shortly be building myself a new system. It will have a 64 bit Dual Core CPU. As I have the need to purchase a new OS and of course Vista is not with us yet, my qustion to you is do I go XP 32 bit or XP PRO 64 bit?The machine will be utilised using FS 95% of the time and I will be upgrading to FSX when that time comes. I have read with interest the pinned topic on 64 bit XP. It is a little old and I am now assuming that there are 64 bit drivers a plenty nowadays.I am unsure if FSX is a 64 bit application (or optimized to use 64 bit). Nevertheless, it is my understanding that there are number crunching advantages in using a 64 bit CPU and OS, regard…

I am in the process of replacing my HP 17" CRT monitor. I've had it for 5-6 years, and its on its last legs. I do a lot of flight simulation on my computer, and have been pleased with the high quaility image produced by my HP monitor. I am thinking of replacing it with another HP 17" flat screen CRT (the MX705). An alternative that I've considered is upgrading to a flat panel LCD, but I have heard that the flat panel LCDs don't perform as well with the high graphics demanded by today's FS applications, and further that their life expectancy is not as good as the older CRT technology. Also, the CRTs are a lot less expensive. Any recommendations as to CRT vs LCD flat pane…

I am looking to replace the joystick I currently (Wingman Force 3D). I do have the CH Products Yoke and Rudder Pedals, but due to time and space restrictions, I really would like to have a good joystick to use. I have been looking at the Saitek X52 Digital Flight Control System, but want to get some feedback from the community on what they use or reccomend.Feel free to comment. And thanks for the help.

Jason[br /]General Aviation Fan[br]

Hi all, maybe some of you hardware savvy folks can tell me whether this upgrade I'm getting next week will improve my frames in FS9 significantly.I'm going from this:p4 2.8160 gig HD (IDE)1 Gig PC2700 DDR RamATI X800 PRO 256 MB (AGP)I'm getting this:Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86Ghz 2MB 1066Mhz (whatever that means)250 Gig SATA2 HD2 Gig DDR2-667 PC2 RAMNvidia 7600GT 256 MB (PCI-E)Also, could someone tell me if I should spend the extra cash and get the E660 Core 2 Duo 2.40Ghz 4MB chip? Or will they both show a significant increase in FS9 performance. Thanks,Jeff

I am chasing why my FS9 crashes to desktop whenever I switch on AI traffic. After having tested all the files individually and finding that the crash only occurs when there's "too much" AI, I had the idea to check on my system config. Now here's what I found: in Windows, I went to "Programs-Accesories-System tools-System information". There it says "TOtal real memory: 1,024 MB", but "Available real memory: 546.10 MB". Does that mean that I only have 546 MB or RAM instead of the 1,024 MB that I bought?I have no great clue about hardware issues, but maybe someone can give me a hint whether I am on to a potential source of trouble here. Thanks!Chris

I've been comparing various video cards and have a question regarding ATI's X800 XT AIW (All-In-Wonder) board and the X800 XT. The AIW is priced considerably less than its counterpart and what I read in the reviews on-line, it appears both boards are exactly the same except for the added features on the AIW for TV, radio and video processing. So why is it less expensive and is there a performance difference due to the added features?I've also tested the X850 XT but see that there is only a slight difference in GPU speed. So I can't justify the cost. Also tried the GeForce GS (not the OC version), and its speed is less than that of the ATI boards. May try the OC version bu…

Is it just me, or is the market for yokes, and joysticks pretty screwed up?I have the sidewinder forcefeedback 2, and i have loved it from day 1. However it is getting older, and i doubt it will last forever.I would be willing to beg microsoft on my knees to start making joysticks like they used to, or a yoke. I dont know any other brand of yoke, or joystick that is a similar quality. It always does exactly what you tell it to do, and it never requires calibrating ever.I also believe it has a different technology than all other joysticks, and yokes i know. It uses optical sensors(i think) instead of potentiometers, or pots, which i believe is why it just is above the rest,…

Once upon a time I thought I understood all this stuff but it seems to get more and more complicated. Any suggestions / thoughts from the folk here would be extremely welcome.I have an OK system (2.2G AMD Athlon Duron, 1G memory, ASUS A7N8X MB) which delivers OK FS2004 performance most of the time provided I'm careful with the sliders. However, I reckon my graphics card might be getting past its best before date (I bought it in 2002, it's a Creative NVIDIA Ti4600 128M card). So, the questions are.....(1) Will a new card improve my FS2004 experience or is it unlikely to make much difference? (I sometimes have patches of scenery that take a while to fill in when I change vie…

My friend has a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop, 512 mb ram.. He likes to play Flight sim 2004 on it, but today when he tried the system shut down, restarted, and came up with this message."Your computer can not currently use 3d hardware acceleration as it has less then the required amount of video memory. Software acceleration 3d mode has been enabled. Some graphic features might not appear in software mode. Do you wish to see the message the next time software 3d is enabled? YES/NO"He said thatwhen the system came up he had to choose YES or NO before he could do anything. Also it did not load up correctly, the FS window was WAY smaller then normal. The system is going very…
