System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etc

Question for you gurus out there. I just put another gig of RAM in my computer totaling now at 2GB's. I notice on a test flight that the paging file was still showing 990MB of useage even though I had just over 1GB or physical memory remaining?? I thought that the PF was only used when there was no more physical memory left? Should I shut off the PF or will that lead to unwanted crashes or OOM errors?

My FS for some reason has started going really jerky.It was fine yesterday morning, but suddenly I'm getting really low frame-rates, even after a reset. Other games seem fine.Thing is, I have a feeling it may be something to do with my dual-core AMD. If I run the task manager, the two graphs showing the 2 cores show one at 100% and the other pretty much at 0%. My Winbar CPU monitor says the CPU is at 50%.Anyone have any idea what's happened?My system:AMD X2 4400512MB X1900XT1024MB DDR400 Dual ChannelWindows XP 32-bit

About to purchase TrackIR 4 but when I fly the pmdg 737 Virtual Cockpit my frames are 8-10 fps. Is it just my cpu or can't you use the overhead panel when in virtual cockpit? Whats everyones views with TrackIR and flying the 737?Im running a P4 3.0Ghz - 1gm Ram - 9800Pro 128mb. I got my sliders pretty low to and Im getting 8-10 in the VC pmdg, and about 15-20 in other planes. Would another gig of ram help a bit or should i be seeing this fps with my system.

With the USA heat wave the upstairs computer area becomes somewhat warm. Ok for me (electric bill rationale) but running FS2004 brings the CPU temperature up to 67C. So, I probably need a better case. CPU is an AMD 2400 with a thunder bird heat sink/fan. There is a single front case fan and a fan in the Enermax 400w supply. Video is Radeon 9600. A Turtle Beach sound card is the only other "extra" along with three disk drives.I have to run the case without the cover to even get 67C on the CPU. Otherwise it climbs to 70C where I kill the program to prevent CPU failure. The CPU heat conductor to the sink is a "high end" grease.Thanks - Dick near 5G8

Hi guys,I am upgrading again, this time getting probably a X1900.My concern is that my PC is powered by a 550W PSU, which, even though seems enough for anything, it is brandless and I don't really trust it much.Notheless I have a identical spare + another couple of 400W PSU.I would like to run the VC with one of the spares (only for the VC). How do I do that? Do I just plug the PCI connectors to the VC, turn the PSU switch on and with that I have power feeding the VC?BTW, just FYI I use my case open (the FX55 likes it that way better), so I would have the second PSU out of the PC.Thanks,Leo

I used to run FS 2004 on this computer. I upgraded it last year to an AMD 2600+ (previously a 1700+) and an Saphire ATI 9600Pro graphics. I have 512MB of RAM. I also reinstalled Windows XP (SP2)and installed the latest drivers from ATI. When I reinstall FS it locks up after all the files are transferred from the CD and the splash screen for FS (showing the DC3) appears. I have tried several times - each time deleting all the FS files from my hard drive (FS does not show up in the list of installed programs in the ADD/Remove Programs window). One time it got all the way through decompressing files and then locked up but most of the time it does't get that far. I…

Maybe this is old news to most of you, but tonight I discovered that if I run FS with the framerate unlocked, the gpu (eVGA 7800GT) gets quite warm (as high as 60 degC). But if I lock the framerate at say, 30 fps, the gpu stays at about 45 degC. I guess that sort of stands to reason, that the gpu isn't working as hard rendering 30 frames per second vs. 100 frames per second, but still I had never noticed this before. Interesting...Rhett

I have recently started having problems with my ch products flight sim yoke. I'm sure many of you out there have this yoke. Now the problem i am having is with the button assignments. I am having aproblem with just one button located on the rightside where there is just 2 buttons that can be used up and down. the problem is that no matter what i set the button to it keeps controlling my landing gear. now i already have my landing gear set to a specific button and it works fine. as of right now i have the button set to diengage my auto pilot when i press it down now it does just that when i push it down it does disengage my auto pilot but it also lowers my landing gear. I just got my new AMD 4800X2 wanted to post my findings and an initial quick review.I didn't expect a lot of improvement with FS9, because FS9 is not multi-threaded and therefore only uses one core, which is roughly the equivalent of an AMD 4000+. My fps are still in the same range as with my old AMD 3800+, around 35-50 fps with most sliders maxed, visibility 60nm, 4xAA, 8xAF, FSUIPC, Active Sky v6 with hi-def textures, Ground Environment Pro, My Traffic 2006 (90%), Flight1 Cessna 172R, TrackIR 3 and many, many more add-ons. Well folks, FS9 still confounds me, after 2 years of trying to keep CTDs and "out of memory" errors.I've tried just about everything to solve the problems.So maybe it's the sound card.It's the only remnent from the last PC (where the problems alsooccurred).I'm using a Sound Blaster Audigy 9000. The driver is e10kx2k.sys.Version 5.12.0001.0129. dated 7-13-2001.Now I'm assuming this driver is out of date. I tried to install the new Nvidia Drivers, and even though I delete my old drivers, halfway through the install of new drivers, a message tells me that there is something else trying to be installed, and it asks me if I want to minimize the installation until I finish that other installation. OR it wants to know if I want to abort the install. That's not true...there is nothing else trying to be installed.I've tried everything. I've uninstalled my Nvidia 7800, and physically pulled it out of its socket. I've used Driver Pro in Safe Mode, but I can't properly remove the old drivers, and install new drivers.
