I just moved my wife's computer for a temporary week or so from its normal location where it is hooked up to our home network by cable. I installed a wireless network adapter in an adjacent room to her modem and router. IT DOES WORK some of the time, but connection to the internet is intermittent with these provisions. I believe the problem is as follows as I get the following error message after installation of the adapter:"The unknown USB device will function at reduced speed. You must add a hi-speed USB host controller to this computer to maximum performance."I had the exact same problem after a reinstallation of WINXP on my computer with a laser printer. It would not …

I have a 1 1/2 year old computer with a Pentium 4 3.2G CPU, 1G RAM, and for Christmas I gave myself a Radeon X1600 card. Yeah, not the best so I've been told, but it has 4x more onboard memory than its predecessor. Well, I was underwhelmed by any perceived improvement in the way FS9 ran.Over the weekend I downloaded the latest ATI drivers for my Radeon, and it has made a BIG change! I have always had frames locked at 25 fps with most all sliders maxed. I was used to seeing the frames drop to 11 or even 9 when using the Eaglesoft Cirrus 22 in VC or in panning with the Active Camera in spot view. But now the frames rarely stray below 24 at any time, and then only for a…

I know that this subject has been a regular request, but please bear with me.FPS are very poor now since I've purchased Misty and Tongass and downloading all the scenery available. Since my video card is a few years old, I need to update. So what to get? My current card is AGP, Radeon 9200 w 256m and the latest drivers (been trying other drivers, e.g. Omega, but no better results).Other sys specs are as follows:CPU P4 3.40 mhzOP Windows XP SP2.01G ramMoB IntelR AWRDACPI Bios Phoenix Tech LD6.00PGNow when I go to my electronics provider, I am faced with a multitude of choices and really not too much help from the sales force. I am told that the 7800 GS 256 is the fastest @…

Greets, all:Just curious as to whether or not this is a good move.I've had an 'older' PC that I use solely as my WideFS platform (i.e., for running ActiveSky, FlightKeeper, FSCommander, Radar Contact, etc.).I just lucked out in that I brought another PC -- with a bit more horsepower -- home from the office to replace the other one. Here's my question. The boot drive on the one I brought home is the same speed as the one on the 'older' WideFS PC. Since I already have all the aforementioned programs already loaded and configured for all my WideFS needs, would it be harmful to simply yank that boot drive out and replace the boot drive on the 'newer' one I brought home?It wo…

I have a PCI sound card (SB Audigy 2ZS), which I bought a few years ago to give better susyem performance than the on-board chip that my older motherboard has.I'm about to install a new CPU and motherboard, and obviously XP. I'm wondering if newer on-board sound chips are less CPU dependant? My new one will be a Realtek

Hello everybody,Over the years I have accumulated quite some hardware. Some of it will never be used again but for some stuff I can see another life.So is there a 15 inch tft monitor That I haven't used for two years but for some reason, I couldn't get say goodbye ti it.Now I have come across a website where they are selling touchscreens to put in front of a normal monitor. Is there anybody who uses touchscreens (for FMC for instance as that is the first application that comes to mind) and, as important as the first question, is there someone who uses such a clip-on touchscreen in front of the normal monitor?Anybody who wants to share his/her findings. All info appreciated.…

Hi,I'm planning to buy a new rig mainly for FS9 and then of course FSX when it hits the market.Below is a computer I'm thinking of buying, any comments/suggestions? Sorry for some Swedish in the text but I hope you'll be able to understand anyway ;-)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/154302.jpgAlso I'm wondering if it's maybe stupid to buy a new PC at this time before Windows Vista and the new version of DirectX are on the market since the present graphics card don't have support for that, guess FSX will use the new DirectX version for example? But then again...maybe it will take some time before we see graphics card with support for the new DirectX version and I'm a bit …

Hello,I have this weird problem with FS2004. Most of the time I have huge impact on fps (average 5 even with default scenery + aircraft). Also whenever FS startup my Harddrive is rattling for ages like it is copying files. Flying is nearly impossible. On the other hand sometimes after a reboot I have no problems at all. Please note that last year I never encountered these issues and I had the same hardware setup.Machine is Shuttle SB83G5 (intel 915g express)Pentium 4 530 processor (3.0ghz)2* + 500 MB DDR RAM (total over 1GB)X700 Video card (not the best but was good enough)I tried reinstalling, reconfiguring, etc .... also I'm using the performance clouds but they didn't c…

I purchased a new computer a while back mainly for other things and didn't get a video card with it because I wasn't planning on simming for a while. Yesterday, I bought a ATI X1600 Pro PCI Express card and immediately installed the drivers. After tweaking it a bit with antialiasing and anisotropic settings, I was ready to fly again. After loading up FS, all my edges were jaggy (even after I turned all those filters on....keep in mind, AA is off in FS). So I turned the filters off and then on again. Finally, everything was smooth. I closed FS to install some different aircraft and scenery and loaded it back up. The jagged edges were back. When this card works, it's …

I had a curious thing happened yesterday on the sim machine.Shortly after running the sim, I received a blue screen saying the system was shut down to keep from damaging the CPU. At the bottom of the screen was a statement about saving memory to disk. There was a counter running and it stopped at, I believe, disk 65 (?). That process used up most of my free hardrive space and I'm left with less than 200mb of free space.I ran all the clean-up tools but still no luck in restoring the free space. I looked in the defrag program and there is a lot of green, unmoveable, space. It appears something happened to the system which caused a program to write files to the hardrive. …

I am having big problems trying to install a new EVGA 7600 GS PCIe card drivers in my Dell E510. It is to replace the ATI 600. The problem is when I go to install the drivers (autorun) from the CD supplied I click "install drivers". After wizard starts installing it then stops and I get the message " NIVDA setup program could not install any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will exit." ANyone know what it going on. Dell 510 P4 3.4GHZ, 1gram, 19" DVI was purchased in March 06 so I would expect it has the latest drivers. I did call EVGA and they said I need the latest motherboard drivers. I don't have a clue what MB I have and never heard …

I remember way back in FS2002 days - that a forum poster used to claim that you could work out whether your Fsim was bound by the CPU or GPU. I think it went something like this. You lowered your screen resolution way down to say 640x480 (something that your GPU could easily handle) and took a reading of your FPS. This FPS rate is largely therefore determined by the CPU . Then you start increasing your screen resolution until you start to lose FPS . At this point the rate then starts to be determined by the GPU.I think that there is more to it than this . For example , I know my old Geforce 4 TI4200 doesn't like AA and AF very much and also doesn't like cumulus clouds. O…

Hi all,I'm going to build a system soon for FS9/X, I've been looking at hardware (rudders, yokes and throttles) and have a couple of questions.- There are 2 models of USB Simped F16s with different toe brakes - What is the difference between the "pressure sensitive" and "variable resistor" models?- Is the AETI ACFS-III the next step up from a CH yoke, or is there something in between I should look at? (The CH is about 100gbp, the ACFS about 500gbp - ouch)Are the CH throttles as good as the elite b200 quadrant? http://www.flyelite.com/hardware.php?product_id=17 - the elite quadrant looks sturdier (all metal construction) and is about the same price - are the two products c…

I picked up a USB CH yoke couple days ago. At first I just let XP do it's thing, but noticed the elevator setting was not sensitive enough.I then tried using FSUIPC and adjusted the slope of the elevator axis, but -1 was not sensitive enough and -2 was too sensitive. So I just installed CH's software. Questions:1) Does this disable FS' control settings? Should I not use them at all?2) Should I not touch FSUIPC?3) Is there any way to have a map to "gear down" and "gear up" as opposed to having a "gear up/down" command? This software is a bit confusing to say the least - I noticed it seems to get the X and Y axes backwards too.

Not necessarily hardware, but here we go. This is most likely the best forum for it. I have a multi-monitor system with separate cards for each -> out.I had a hardware problem many moons ( or Mars ) ago. After the fix,, there was really no problem except for certain dialog(s) not showing up.... Oh yeah they're there.... I've tracked a bunch down by moving the monitor orientation around, moving the dialogs to somewhere active, then reseting the monitor config and then bringing them ( dialogs) to a new home.NOW I lost the dialog box for 'DISPLAY' trying to find a stupid 'dialog' that I hardly use.I cannot disable monitor one to reset the mess. sans no 'DISPLAY' from the …
