I have just had a disaster with my computer system! The good news is that I had a hard drive failure three weeks ago, my dealer saved all my files and installed a new drive. I have WindowsXP and following this, the computer was running the best it had done for a long time. Then a week later, my GigaByte 939 socket, AGP motherboard failed. Trying to find a new AGP mbo was impossible so I had to sacrifice my ATI X800XL video card which had been a great performer. My dealer managed to find an ASUS A8N-E mbo with the 939 socket but with the PCI-express slot

I've been having a problem with Windows XP that someone might be able to help me with. Short story - only and example of a more pervasive issue:I have a folder where I place downloaded files (zip). Within this folder are 12 subfolders where I move 12 of the zip files in order to unzip the files without mixing differing files. As I unzip the files within each of the numbered folder, I extract files, re-label some, and delete others. Often I combine files into an FS9 flight sim texture folder (for example). Then I copy the zip file label, delete the zip file and the avsim file, and put the zip file label into an empty folder so that I know the file's source.I can unzip a…

I have an old 4:3 aspect ratio CRT. I would like to replace it with an LCD monitor. The problem is that most LCDs come in 1280x1024 resolution. This makes circular gauges designed for 4:3 aspect ratio oval (not much - but still noticeable).I have come accross only one LCD monitor that has a 4:3 ratio. Unfortunately it supports 1400x1050 which somehow I cannot get FS9 to display. FSX can display it but I am not interested in it at the moment.Any tips on how to deal with this issue ?Thanks

I received this advice from Apevia in the event anyone would be interested. This is a way for me to test if my PSU or MoBo got fried during a condesation problem."You can test to see if the psu is still functional by jumping pins 13/14 on the 20-pin ATX connector. You can duplicate the process using a bent paperclip rather than the toggle switch.http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/196/1 Finding out if the motherboard has caused the problem is much trickier and we be better answered by the mobo manufacturer. Thanks GregApevia"

Its very wierd, when i have it off, it will take maybe like 4 to 8 times before it finally stays on for about 3-5 days straight, then it shuts off, i have checked temps, etcI think its the power supply going bad, but this is my questionif your still getting good voltage reading from your ps, could that still be the culprit?thanksciao!Brian S

Ive had a ch flight sim yoke le for a many years now and I ahve never had a problem. But as I was flying today the elevators would not respond, out of the blue. I did not touch any settings in. All of the sliders and checkboxes are as they should be and as they were before the incident. The only thing I was doing differently was I was slewing the aircraft and during slew the elevators stopped responding. I tried "calibrate joystick" and the aileron controls work fine but there is no response for when I pull back on the yoke. Any ideas?

High fellow simmers,I've been out of simming for a couple of years because I lack a recent PC machine. The best I've got here running windows, is a 667 MHz PIII I bought in 1999. The latest sim I had was FS2K2 which I loved.I'm getting ready for buying a new system by this summer with a Intel C2D 6600 cpu and a decent DX10 capable card. I'm waiting for concurrence of the nVidia 8800GTS/GTX series to appear for prices to drop a bit. I'm also waiting for the huge pricedrops Intel has announced for their processors late april.Anyway, I want to build an up to date system capable of running FS X with high detail, not necessarily best. Knowing my last simmiing was in 2003-4, a…

if downlading them to my c: drive and doing it that way doesn't work what does that mean? I was able to get one aircraft? What are other options for downloading freeware so they actually appear under the aircraft when I open FSX??

I'm running an eVGA 7600 GT. After initial install, I went to validate what drivers I have, presuming I'd find them in the NVIDIA folder. There wasn't a NVIDIA folder to look in, so I went to Device Manager and saw the attached. All the indicated driver files reside in a Windows root folder, instead of NVIDIA. I since installed 93.71, and a NVIDIA folder was created to house the 93.71 drivers. I'm just trying to figure out if the 93.71 drivers are being utilized or not, and if not, how do I correct this? Thanks in advance for your assistance. The wealth of tech knowledge around these forums is awesome!

Hello all,I recently installed a second nVidia 7950 video card. But, the card in the lower PCIe slot does not generate video output, even during the POST. I've tried basic troubleshooting such as swapping the cards and power adapters, but whichever card is in the lower slot doesn't work!I don't want to use SLI as I would like to use more than two monitors and would prefer avoiding the Matrox triple head solution.Windows detected and installed the card automatically, I can see it in Device Manager. The video drivers I am using are the 93.71 release.Any ideas to try? I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling video drivers next.My quick config is:AMD X2 5200+2GB DD…

I recently saw a FX55 processor (max my current mobo can take actually) at newegg for 200 bux... its unfortunetly gone now and the cheapest one I can find is over 600 bux (unless I go on ebay which I dont want to use, then the wifey can find out lol)so I was wondering about a cpu/mobo upgrade... I'm thinking about a dual core amd x2 4600 with a SLI mobo... I found few that is roughly 300 bux...or I can go for a intel e6300 core 2 duo for roughly the same price...anyone have reccomendations?I currently have amd 3800+ with 3 gigs of ram and 6800gt gfx card with water cooling... I would love to just upgrade to a fx55 if I could find one for cheap, but i'm not having any luc…

Hi guys,I've read various things about the recent ATI driver releases, i.e. not good for the Sapphire Radeon X1950 XTX - so over to you who know!Which ATI driver version is currently delivering the goods with this card and FSX? Updating drivers for me will be a big deal, first time on new rig so I would like to be fairly sure I will get better not worse performance. Many thanks,Gemma

Hi guys,I've just invested in 2x 22" ASUS MW221U monitors for FSX.http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ASU-MM221I'm getting dreadful patterning in the props of the stock aircraft when looking out of the VC through the prop. It looks just weird and is most noticeable when the prop is against blue skys, with patterns and purple colours showing up.These monitors are being sold as suitable for gamers and having fast refresh reates, seems to me this is something to do with refresh rate as I have tried changing my graphic card settings and the built in modes on the monitors but still see this really irritating effect.Any views? I'm seriously contemplating bouncing t…

I accidentally moved several scenery files into a folder labeled 89d81c6d185da6202586. I now cannot drag/drop or copy/paste them to there correct folder. I also cannot even open them, although I can open the 89d81c6d185da6202586 folder to see the locked scenery folders. After exhausting my guesses in normal mode I went to Safe Mode (I have Admin status). There I was allowed to select Properties/Security. There I could also set control privileges except for one called Special Permissions. I set the allowed to full control but no luck. The Special Privileges seems to be the problem but I have never seen any info on that. Tried under my id and as Administrator Suggestions??R…

I'm going to be getting the 10K raptor in the next week or so and will be putting a parition on it to store the pagefile and FSX. My question is what the easiest way to create a parition on the drive? I've seen many posts referring to Parition Magic and how easy is it to use. I also came across this article on the MS support site.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000/Which method is preferred? Thanks,C.

Hello All,I just updated my BIOS. Everything is fine with one exception: the sky in FS9 flashes red. I've re-insatalled the video drivers (lastest nVidia drivers)that worked before. The only add-ons that might be of issue are UTUSA or BEV textures. As I said, all was well before. All other apps run fine. Any suggestions? Could I be missing something in the BIOS? I am running the nvVidia global settings. No caching of anykind (video wise) in BIOS. Will reset if possible when this gets taken care of. On the Nvidia website, the most recent driver is version 93.71. With a little searching, one can find version numbers as high as 100.87; see http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1595.Anyone tried some of these newer drivers with FS9 and FSX?

This may be a silly question but is it possible to use two computers networked to get better performance from FS9?The reason being is that on EBay I can a used computer like mine for about a few hundred bucks. And for that price it would be worth it if I could network them somehow to get better overall performce.Would this be a pseudo-duo core somehow?I know that may be a stupid question. JSC-
