I have an AOpen XCube 2.8 GHz Celeron with 512 MB RAM, 80 GB harddrive, a NEC DVD RW type 4550, and an MSI GeForce FX card (I think 5800 or something like that, about 2,5 years old). I have windows XP SP2 installed, but I am unable to install FSX. My PC won't see the disk. I tried all teh suggestions with uninstalling burner programs etc, with no success.A friend of mine installed it successfully in one go on his HP machine, which is now 3 years old, and it runs ok.Why doesn't it install on my PC? Do I need a different DVD drive? Should I reset the DVD region to something different than it is now? What do I do to make this work? It must be a hardware compatibility probl…

I recently lost my computer due to what I belive to be, condensation in the computer. My question is this: is there anyway to conclude before replacing anything if it was the PSU or the MoBo that god done in?To help out, when it happened, I supplied it with power after sitting unpluged for a few days...when I went to turn it on using the power button on the case, nothing happened. Seconds later, a small pop noise and a faint smell all the while nothing happening with the computer as in anything powering up.I plan on replacing the PSU first but just wanted to see before I bought a new PSU if anyone could tell me if theres anyway to determine if its the PSU or MoBo before…

Does Vista ship with 9 or 10 version of Direct X? I'm really not sure. I just got Vista yesterday (Sunday) and had one heck of a time with drivers and various other little quirks.I tried FSX for the first time today with the NVidia beta drivers for Vista and when first loading the program, it said that Direct X didn't initialize or something. It took many minutes for FSX to finally load, and it was definitely slower than with XP, but I have some tweaking to do.I probably should do a good defragging tonight after all the driver downloads and other things I did yesterday.Just would like some advice on new Vista users and what I must initially check to make sure everything's…

I had little problems installing vista ultimate-fsx runs the same if not a little better-I love all the new features-especially after turning off the annoying security prompts. However, an old problem from xp has crept up-my ch usb joystick pedals turn off after about 15 minutes of non use. I have set the "allow the computer to turn this device off to save power to " -"off" yet they still shut down.Anyone have any ideas?Thanks.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg

Hi,I'm considering a Core 2 Duo for a new FSX compatible rig and have narrowed it down to a e4300 or an e6600. It seems odd to be comparing these two processors but at 400 megahertz fsb, both chips should be running at 3.6 gigahertz!! I've been wondering if the increase L2 cache gives the e6600 a significant performance edge when both are overclocked to 3.6 (assuming you can get that high)? The price difference is ~125$ so it's very tempting to use the E4300.Thanks,

I'm trying to setup FSX on my system which has two 19" monitors next to each other. I want to get virtual cockpit view on both and so that they line up with no overlap ie a continuous view of the cockpit (left and right seat). I can't seem to get this to work though - there is always an overlap and also the terrain doesn't line up properly.Anyone got any suggestions? Many thanks!

My new rig is reporting 2GB of physical memory (the correct amount) in the Task Manager, but only 1GB under System Properties in My Computer. Does one trump the other? I was throwing some suspicion on the Abit AB9 Pro mobo, as I got a series of reboots. That got fixed, then Windows started hurling after the machine posted, with indications of a memory error. (Abit's forums crashed, so that's why I'm here.) I know I'll run memtest on the modules tonight, but wanted to know if the disparity in the amount of memory reported is an absolute problem or not.'Thanks!

Hi all. I have been considering getting flight petals. First, do they really make a great difference to the flight sim experience? I have rudder control on my Saitek X45 and it works ok, but it's not a foot petal. Do petals really make a difference?Second, what is the best? I have been looking at the Saitek Pro and the CH? I have read that CH only works with other CH products so maybe I should get the Saitek just for that reason if true.Opinions anyone?

I'm upgrading my system, Pentium 4 3.2HT, 1024Mb RAM, 128Mb Radeon 9800 Pro video. I've already ordered the upgrade to the video card (GeForce 7600GT AGP), and am ready to add more RAM specifically to improve performace of FS9 and many FS add-ons. I obviously have no immediate plans to migrate to FSX since I'm upgrading a current computer rather than buying a new one. My question is how much RAM should I add. I read that WinXP itself uses about 512Mb of RAM - so if I add another 1024 (2Gb total), will that be enough - or should I spend the extra $$ and go to 3Gb? Or is that overkill for FS9? Please, for those knowledgeable in such things, what are your thoughts sinc…

The clouds appear in 2D have have a greenish psychodelic pattern to them. Similarly, my landing lights appear out of the cockpit window like greenish lines. Other objects, etc. appear fine. I'm not super computer literate, any ideas out there? All help is appreciated!Ian

Hi,After ensuring what kind of RAM I needed I went out and bought a new 512 stick to put next to my other 512 stick. After loading FS9 I got a CTD with the attached error message. Initially I took out the new stick and flightsim seemed to work fine. Although, I didnt fly for too long just took off and leveled out at 5000 ft. Now, after a week of searching the net and forums, I took out the new stick and I am still getting CTD. Its driving me mental. The error box is a small XP style box with "ERROR - FS9" at the top then inside the box "Failed to read from file". I swapped the RAM into different slots to no avail. I am hoping to avoid having to reinstall FS9 as I have all…

I am running FS2004 on an HP XW6000 workstation - Dual Xeon 2.4 Ghz processors, 2 meg dual channel memory and an XFX GeForce FX6200 AGP card. I get 70 to 80 FPS when running on one monitor. I decided to move my panel to 2 12" monitors and purchased a PCI MX4000 128 meg card for that purpose. I didn't think I needed much power just to run the gages. However, as soon as I hooked up the two new monitors my fps dropped to 20 to 25. Am I expecting to much from this system?
