I found a link to this guys site on Kim Komando's site, and looking around at his software, He has a couple of programs for controlling processor affinity. I downloaded the one for "more" than 2 cores, as I have a quad core, and you can set the affinity for any or all of the processes at once. He says on his site that the one for 2 cores is easyer to use but I have not looked at it but the one for more than 2 cores seems to work very well. Just thought I would pass it along, maybe some of you can get some use out of them.http://www.mlin.net/SMPSeesaw.shtml

Are there any FSX tips when installing a new graphics card?I would appreciate any advice that will lead to FSX properly recognizing and configuring a new graphics card.We will soon upgrade one of our AGP FSX systems from an nVidia 5900XT to an nVidia 7600GT, and the system is already at the driver level that we intend to use (93.71).Our thoughts are to remove the 5900XT from the XP Device Manager, to shutdown the system, to replace the card, and to then power up. Make sense? And, our main question is: do we need to do anything to ensure that FSX recognizes the new card and takes advantage of its new features? Do we need to either force display.cfg to be regenerated or …

You buy software and they wont let you use it.You have to jump thru all kinds of hoops to use your software that you PAID for. They invalidate your product key even when you are doing nothing wrong.I installed on XP. Then I bought Vista Ultimate. Un-installed FSX from XP and tried to install on Vista 32 Bit.The product key was CORRECT, about 5 times."Your product key is incorrect or invalidated". Invalidated???I hope Gate's goes broke!!!

I am running both FS9 and FSX. I have set up two monitors using a Nvidia XFX 7800 video card. FSX runs fine, In fact FSX is dual monitor friendly. It's just a drag and drop to move the GPS, radio, and other windows to the second monitor. The problem is if the two monitor desktop is running, FS9 does not display the aircraft in the preview window. If I turn off the dual monitors it works fine. I don't really want to keep change my Nvidia setup every time I want descent frame rates and fire up FS9. Thanks

Hi Folks, long time listener, first time caller!I've got approval from my 'finance minister' to replace my delapidated 4 year old AMD XP2000+ with a new system (the grinding sound from the fan is making her nervous!). I've been ferreting around these forum and others trying to look for the best combo of price/performance and I've come up with the following specs. The bits I've descided on are listed below - I just wondered if any of you out there have any suggestions that would make an improvement in performance without a jump in price.FYI I'm wanting to run fs2004 only with highish settings at a decent clip (30fps+ with addons). I have budgetary approval for around $1300 …

Hello.I have recently put a 7600GT video card in my machine and would like some help/suggestions on what to put the settings at in the Nvidia Control Panel in relation to FS9.The system is a P4 2.8 with 1GB RAM and, as mentioned, the video card is a 7600GT.I guess I'm trying to figure out what to set the items such as Anisotropic Filtering, Antialiasing, Conformont Texture, Extension LImit, Force Mipmaps, etc, etc to.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, without changing any settings it seems as if I might be getting less fps than with the ti4600 I took out. Does that seem right to anyone? Thanks!

I have recently purchased a ATI Radeon 9250 to use in my Dell Dimensions 2400 desktop. I wanted to be able to use the 3D clouds available in MS Flight Simulator 2004 at a reasonable frame rate. The problem is that the fog and visibility function is not working properly. This is one of the nicest thing in MSFS 2004, it would diffuse the horizon even at 20 or 30 miles visibility or obscure a runway at 1/4 mile vis. Now what I get is at 1 mile ore less I get a very dense 1/4 mile visibility and is I raise it to 2 miles I get a sharp, blue field with no fog like diffusion; very unrealistic. If I set it the visibility to 10 miles I can see mountains 10 miles away clear and sh…

Bruce Schneier is a renowned and respected Security Expert. Read what he says about DRM and it's function in Vista.http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2007...in_windows.html"DRM in Windows VistaWindows Vista includes an array of "features" that you don't want. These features will make your computer less reliable and less secure. They'll make your computer less stable and run slower. They will cause technical support problems. They may even require you to upgrade some of your peripheral hardware and existing software. And these features won't do anything useful. In fact, they're working against you. They're digital rights management (DRM) features built into Vista at th…

Hey - d'ya hear that Intel just announced that they've prototyped an 80 core processor! This thing screams!oh,Wait,Won't help here, will it? Too bad.ThomasP.S. Actually, my E6600/8800 GTS works pretty well with FSX. We're such pansies, huh... All worried and whiney about how to get FS to run at 30 FPS. Maybe we should put some of this energy into solving world peace or something. Now there's something to whine about.[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

I'm a NooB at system building, but this was easy and fast. I'm running most of the sliders as high as they will go in FSX and the system does not stutter and frame rates are the best I've ever had on any system, running any version of MSFS except maybe the pre windows FS4. Candidly, I've got everything maxed except for the stuff I don't want to see (too much autogen scenery and traffic is not realistic to me).EVGA 680I motherboard (P24 BIOS)EVGA 8800 GTSOCZ DDR2 800Intel E6600Corsair 620PSUZalman CNPS9700Seagate 320GB 7200.10 in Raid 0Coolermaster MystiqueWindows Vista UltimateFSX is very processor dependent. I used to belong to the 'leave your PC switched on' group of folk who believe that leaving a PC switched on saves your hard drives from an early grave. The reasoning being that the initial start-up of a HDD (and any other sensitive electrical equipment) is it's most stressful. In the 10 years of building and using PC's I never suffered any component failure but the cost in the electric bills would have been frightening.http://www.localcooling.com/facts/"A good spec PC can use up to 200 watts per hour and if you use a CRT Monitor... as much as 280 watts"I changed to TFT Monitors some months ago and after reading the statement in the link above I now switch my PC's off at t…
