I want to buy a computers with the dual 8800GTX cards in them. Falcon North West says you cant run dual monitors in SLI mode and that I would have to disable the SLI mode to run 2 monitors (one for main panel and the second for the throttle quad and FMC) and use one for each monitor. Dell says with the same cards in SLI mode I can have 2 monitors working as described above.Who is right???

  2. Greetings!A friend of mine sent me this list of components, that his son ordered from NewEgg, for his new FSX only rig. Not being too tech oriented myself, but having read all your posts over the past 2 years, I think it's a good selection. However, as FSX is so CPU dependent, I was wondering about the 2.6Ghz AMD processor he selected.??? Is it strong enough??-----------------------New for FSX (only) computer components:1 x Thermaltake Eureka VC8000BWA Black Chassis : 1.0mm all aluminum Front bezel : Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case 1 x AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA5200CSBOX 1 x Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Home Premium for Sy…

Hi,Here's another challenge for the experts amongst you :)On examining the events recorded in Event Viewer under Applications I have noted a recurrent error listed as LoadPerf. This, I think, can be corrected. I clear all events under Applications to achieve a fresh start. For a time all seems well but, after a while, it always returns and I don't know why.Event ID: 3011Double clicking the entry produces the following description:"Unloading the performance counter strings for service WMIApRpl (WMIApRpl) failed. The error code is the first DWORD in Data Section."I followed the Microsoft link to try to learn more and this is what I come up with:"Details Product: Windows Ope…

Hi,I've never been one to flirt with overclocking, but I do use various benchmarking tools routinely to test for system stability. After recently upgrading my CPU and GPU I benchmarked my system with 3DMark06 (Registered Advanced Version). The results were as expected when compared with my previous setup and I felt quite happy until, that is, I submitted my results for comparison at the Futuremark Site :(When comparing my results with 14 similar setups (including drivers) my 3DMark06 score (approx 5000) fell around the middle of the bunch. What I can't understand is the discrepancy between my score and the highest performing amongst the 14 other comparable systems posted a…

Hi fellow simmers. Probably this was asked before, I'm sorry for that. Did try to search but could not find a thread with this hardware.I am now running an AMD Athlon 64 3500 on an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. I have 1 GB of RAM and an ATI X800XL 256MB videocard. My intention is an Intel 6600 Core 2 Duo, an i965 chipset based motherboard, 2 GB RAM. Videocard will be upgraded later, SLI not needed. Is there anyone among us who also upgraded from an Athlon 64 3500? If so, upgraded to what? Can I expect an (ohoh ;) ) FPS boost in FS2004 running on WindowsXP? I'm using the mainstream addons: PMDG series, LDS 767, ActiveSky, Ultimate Terrain Europe, AI traffic pack, RadarContact and som…

Hi guys,I'm planning on getting a new hard drive. Being somewhat of a lazy person, I don't feel like installing Windows and all my programs again. So, I'm wondering, is it possible to create an image of my current drive and then just copy it to the new drive (partitions and all), or is that a bit too ambitious?Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg

  8. In the past, I've always upgraded Windows OS changes practically on the day they were released; however, I'm not so sure about the new one coming on Wednesday, the 30th. Vista will be available for the consumer mid-week, and I'm hoping with my system, that it will be a move in the right direction for FSX.How many of you will be upgrading XP on Wednesday, and if so, with what version, and why?I'm curious and I think this will be a good discussion here on AVSIM in the FSX forum as opposed to the Hardware forum.

  10. I made a post today regarding a problem configuring my ATI card with FS but have since discovered something new. Recently, I noticed a lot of glistening, shimmering, sparkling, in my display that probably started after updating my ATI 9800 driver. I made some changes in the Catalyst control window (temporal anti aliasing, AF filtering slider, etc.) and returned to FS after saving and exiting the ATI control center and all was well. Nice smooth textures and display. I returned to FS a day later and the shimmering poor display was back. I reduced FS to the taskbar and reopened the ATI window and all settings were as they should be so I returned to FS but still had the …

MSX allows for controlling these with something other than an "on screen mouse click" under their Settings-->Controls Menu; however, after considerable time trying to make it "stick" I've concluded it is either an MSX bug or I'm missing something.I'm working with a Beechcraft King Air 350 in this case and while the bugs will move if you stop you flying and "mouse click" on them this is not particularly satisfactory. The "Settings" section of X provides a given keyboard command (not much better) AND the ability to assign the Heading and/or VSI bug control to a button on ones joystick or throttle console.....Neither the keyboard system not the setting it to a button on e…

I am in the process of buying a new LCD....Dell 22 inch widescreen...native resouloution is 1650x1080. The card I am looking at is GEforce 7600GS 512mb PCI express. My cpu is P4 3ghz....mem is 2 gig ddr2. I have tried the card in my system now.....I currently have an ATI SX300...cheap card and two years old. The GEForce made my sim so much better it made me decide to upgrade to where I can enjoy FSX and FS9. The card made huge differences in the game and I know a new LCD will help even more to the grapics aspect....current monitor is Dell 17 inch LCD with a 25 ms response time. I can only imagine the differnce an LCD with 5ms response time will make. The questions I have …

Hi to all;It seems that my CH Pro pedals are wearing out. As I'm taxing the PMDG 737, the brakes come on by themselves or one of the differential brakes operates and won't release at times. You can imagine the havoc this causes on landing roll-outs and suddenly your craft goes right or left. Or while taxing, plane comes to a stop because the brakes are on, or pulls right or left.Since the pedals are no longer under warranty, is there something I can do to adjust the pedals? I've done all I can in FS's sensitivity setting and that has no effect. This occurs in FS9 and truthfully, I'm not sure it occurs with other aircraft. Will try it though.Has anyone bought the new Saite…

This isn't necessarily an MSFS problem - I'm not really sure as I haven't been using it lately. Instead I'm focusing on IL2 and Falcon AF. I just purchased a new LCD monitor to replace my primary CRT. I have an ATI 800XT PE card with the latest catalyst drivers. I find that when I start IL2, the monitor correctly autoadjusts its colors and the program looks fine (great, actually!). With Falcon and Company of Heroes, the colors are waaaay too red - the screen is essentially pink. Windows screens were the same way initially but I found in Catalyst Controller that I could tone down the red channel for Windows and now it looks fine. For some reason the controller does not all…

  19. Hi Guys,Well, the building project is going to be delayed. I received an ASUS Striker motherboard from NEXT International Inc. Turns out the motherboard was used as well as damaged.Below is an insert from a letter I sent the company earlier today indicating the problems I found during my inspection.I find it hard to believe that you would attempt to sell me this obvious "USED" ASUS Striker motherboard as new. For starters, the box was previously opened prior to when it arrived, the CPU pinset is bend, the motherboard power button is missing, the heatsink cooling pipes are bent, and there are parts missing from the package. It is obvious that this board was utilized in th…

I recently built a new machine: AMD64 FX-60, 8800GTS 640Mb card, 2 Gigs of Kingston DDR2 ram. My older gamer is: AMD 3500+, ATI x800, 1 gig DDR. Honestly, the older system has better graphics and I'm only seeing a very marginal increase in performance.I was wondering if anyone here has an advice on settings for the 8800 card. Here is what I'm experiencing. Taxi lines are broken and shimmer at a distance. On my older ATI based system, the taxilines were completely smooth and faded nicely into the distance. I've played with the new card's settings and cannot achieve that nice smooth look. The only advantage I can see with this new system is that the textures load more quickly…

  22. This morning as is my custom, I got up, got a cup of coffee and sat down to read the library and forum updates. I then used my computer for a couple of hours for some MSWord documentation work. No problems whatsoever. Everything worked perfectly as it has for some months if not years. Then, I went outside to shovel and plow snow for a couple of hours, which is not one of my favorite things as an old gulf coast guy. (West Virginia snow thanks to my neighbor's lake effect snow from the Great lake area). When I finished outside, I came back in to do some more computer work. The three computer screens were blank, so I assumed as per normal procedure the computer was in standby…

I have read here, over and over, that FSX:1.) Is mainly CPU dependant.2.) Is single threaded and can not utilize multi core processors3.) Can not utilize multiple video cards in SLI mode.4.) Is designed for future hardware!???It seems to me, as a sideline observer, that the future direction of hardware design IS, in fact, multi core processing and multiple video cards in SLI configuration, etc; and, correspondingly, that multi threaded applications seem to be the future of software design. So, just what *future* hardware IS FSX designed for? I was all set to buy a new super computer for FSX, but there doesn't seem to be one----even on the horizon! What have I missed?Scott
