Hi all,I would like your opinion on upgrading my graphics card.My system is:Pentium D 2.80GHz, 2.79GHz Radeon X1300 Series1GB RAMXP Professional SP 2 Media Center Edition + all updatesmy drives are simply what came with the machine so nothing special.I'm considering upgrading the graphics card to:Sapphire Technology Radeon X1950XThttp://www.sapphiretech.com/uk/products/pr...?gpid=169&grp=3Am I likely to see any improvement with this upgrade in FSX or FS9 or am I kidding myself?Currently I can fly with 17 FPS in FSX in rural areas which has been really fun. I just about survive flying over airports with the FPS set to 12. Most of the built in missions in FSX are just t…

  2. If I install two different models of video cards, for example a Primary 8800GTX and secondary 7950GT (or lower level 7 series card) in a motherboard with two PCI Express x 16 slots, is there any problem relative to compatibility or anything else anyone knows about? All I want to do with the second card is to be able to implement low demand programs such as FSNAV on a third (and possibly a future fourth monitor) as I have previously done between AGP and PCI slots. I will never use SLI and have no desire to buy two 8800GTX cards. A reply to another post suggested that mismatched cards may have been a problem somewhere mentioned in other posts which thus far I am afraid I ha…

  3. I got FSX as a Christmas present. However, I had this FSX crash problem within minutes into my first flight after installing FSX:"The instruction at "0x7c809783" memory at "0x15db2fe4". The memory could not be "written". Click on ok to terminate the program."This happened whenever I tried to display the GPS and frequently when I tried to load an aircraft other than the default ultralight.Assuming that something was wrong with my system, I tried lots of things based on forum searches and suggestions from community members. However, they never solved the problem. What did solve it for me earlier this week was un-installing FSX and re-installing it while running under a safe …

I have posted on these forums only a few times over the last many many years, but not much. I know that there are some pretty expert opinions here and I can weed out those that are not. I hope some of you will give me some sound advice. My current system is a custom built computer with a P4 3.06 GHz, 1 GB RAM, XP Home, DirectX 9.0c, Radeon X800 Pro AGP 256 MB. Looking from expert opionons before making the following upgrade to my rig.I'm thinking of uninstalling FSX and putting it on a separate 10,000 RPM Raptor HD. Currently, it's sitting on a 7200rpm 250GB HD that has the OS and pagefile on the same drive. I'll be using the computer for other multimedia stuff (create/burn DVDs as well). The new drive would be partioned to hold FSX and the pagefile. I would use ulimatedefrag (or something equivalent) as well. What are the pros/cons of doing this? Is it a waste of $$$?.Cheers,C.Dell 9200 Intel CoreDuo E6400 2.13ghzATI Radeon X1300 pro2GB DDR2 Ram19'' Samsung WS

Ok, i am finaly sick of FSX only getting 4 FPS on my pc... so i am in the middle of upgrading...So far, this is what i desided i am getting:- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (Dual Core)- GIGABYTE GA-M55SLI-S4 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX Motherboard. Now i was wondering, what speed of RAM would you recomend me getting to work with FSX decently? all i want is like 15 FPS on Ultra High quality on FSX...My motherboard can support upto DDR2 800... But i was wondering, seeing i am on a very tight budget, if i got DDR2 667, how much of a difference would it make when trying to get FSX to work on ultra high quality? Thanks in advanced for your help :)

Hi Folks,I've been using a Saitek X-52 for a long time and generally like it for FS9/FSX. I notice that Saitek now has a similar model called the X-52 PRO which is almost double the price of the X-52 but looks exactly like the X-52 (with minor differences). Has anyone tried the new PRO and if so, what do you think about it compared to the X-52. Please indicate if you have also used the X-52 as well as the X-52 PRO.Thanks,

My guess is probably not, WHQL drivers that were released middle of January still do not fix this. How disappointing...The drivers themselves run great, but what a stupid little thing they couldn't fix in how long?

This is my first post, so please be kind!!Like most simmers with FSX, I'm not entirely happy with the FPS. I have just purchased a new computer (specs below) and am trying various suggestions that I've read on these forums to improve performance. I can get 20-24 fps but not on every plane and scenery is sparse at times... I have a Vista upgrade coming, but will probably hold off on the upgrade for a few months once it's available. My questions are:1) Is it worth to install FSX on a completely separate hard drive that is only used for FSX? If yes, what would a good drive to get?2) Will ATI's crossfire platform help improving FPS?Thanks in advance,ChrisDell 9200 Duo core…

I am currently experiencing long pauses where the sim is freezing for between 2-4 seconds before continuing.... I have opened the task manager and can see the CPU Usage drops to 2 or 3% for the time the sim is frozen before returning to 100%. I have not come across this problem before and as you can imagine is very annoying... the pauses happen every 30 - 60 seconds wherever I fly in the world. I am running a 6600 Core Duo + Track IR4 + Active Sky.... any suggestions or ideas would be very welcome.....

Hello.I am looking at upgrading a ti4600 to something else. The problem is the machine is kind of old now but can't afford to do much else. The machine is a P4 2.8 with 1GB of ram with a D845GBV board and will be running FS9 (not FSX).I am looking at replacing the current ti4600 with maybe a 7600GT or 7800GS. The problem is the board is only AGP 4x so I'll only be getting 2x/4x speeds instead of 4x/8x speeds.I know that FS is more CPU intensive than anything but I guess I'm trying to find out what kind of a difference I would see. Right now places like FlyTampa KSEA pretty much kill me.Your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi guys,I've been stuck with my P4 2.4 and 7800GS for a while now and decided to treat myself to a new machine.I've set my mind on pretty much all components except the most crucial one ...the motherboard. The CPU is a E6600. OC abilities are a must. SLI is not really necessary as I plan to run a 8800 GTX but, hey if it comes with the board I'll take it. Other than that a good onboard sound chip and ...that's it.I'm open to your suggestions. Thanks,Nick

Newegg cites this MS link for the Vista OS (the OEM system builder versions). I checked out the PDF file but still am a little confused.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16832116213http://www.microsoft.com/oem/sblicense/default.mspxSay I buy Vista Ultimate for 200 bucks. Does that mean I can't use it if I change my mobo, RAM, gpu, etc? Does this OEM version work the same way as FSX claims to work (ie you change some major hardware and you have to buy a new copy???)Just curious,

Hi all, my first post on here so be kind!I've just installed FS 2004 (and FSX but I'm mostly using FS 2004 as FSX is a bit demanding for my poor puter)I have a display problem when lining up on runways and taxing. It appears as triangles all over the screen rapidly flashing. I have a few addons, Just Flights VFR scenery and British Airports volume 1 and 2. I get the same effect on any (i.e. also the stock) tarmac runways, particularly when taxing over the runway numbers. Grass runways do not cause the problem to appear. Is this a known fault in FS 2004 and is there a known fix? If not where would you start with trying to cure it?I've run dxdiag, there doesn't appear to be …

I have 2 PCs (one is the wife's) that I have recently built, both using a RAID0 configuration with 2 identical SATA HD's. Each has a third independant drive which I inted to back up critical files in each system. Does anyone have a recommendation for software that can do a full or incremental backup, and which is able to backup system files that are in use? (I've tried some in the past that bomb out if the system file is in use, similar to attemtong to copy an active system file).Thanks- Bruce.

I am in no way an expert on overclocking and if you do try any of this then I take NO responsibility for any damage incurred to your hardware or software. Please check out the relevant overclocking reviews and information (and don't forget your motherboard manual) as it is your responsibility to take care of your hardware. The information below is merely my own experience and opinion.Hi all,I have had this Quad Core for a while now and was checking out PC Format magazine who were running a couple of stories regarding overclocking hardware. I thought I would checkout what I could do with my QX6700 and found that by increasing the multiplier in the bios to 13 I could get 3.…
