  1. I just bought an nVidia/BFG GeForce 6200 OC tonight since it was the best AGP card I could find to run on a 250w power supply. My power supply isn't easy to replace from outside vendors since it's a few years older Dell. Tried tonight.Anyway, I get the card home, completely uninstall all my ATI drivers, install the card, and install the newest drivers I could find from nVidia. Make the appropriate chance to the FS9 cfg, fire up FS9, and have had nothing but trouble so far. When the opening screen starts where it show aircraft, location, weather, and time, the little plane in the middle of the screen is not there. Just a blank black box with nothing inside. I have fiddled …

Hi Guys! Anyone remember me? My friends here probably thought I fell off the earth. Im still around. :) Anyways, getting back into FS now that I have time on my hands, but I've discovered a little issue in MS. I have my screen res set at 1280x1024 but everytime I reboot, it loads up at 1024x768. What could cause this and how can I turn it around? Its a real pain because evertime MS loads, I have to spend about 5 minutes re-arranging my icons. Any idea's guys?I apologies for this being in the wrong forum. Avsim has changed up so much and I have no clue where the hardware forum went. Thanks in advance for your assistance. :-wave

  10. than dual core processors for FSX with SP1 patch, which apparently will provide at least some signifcant support for multi-core? I know it's a stretch to be talking about exactly what practical effect SP1 will have on improved performance in multicore over single core machines since SP1 isn't out yet. But still, what do you think? Quad is good, or no?Now that there is something positive about FSX performance enhancement with SP1 I am contemplating . . . a system upgrade. FS has always driven system upgrades, and alas the iffy testimony caused me to not want to even get into FSX, until this new hope comes along. Yeah!Gotta love it!Noel

I have always wondered if those with high end PCs ever see the CPU utilization drop below 100% during flight?? With my paltry 2ghx CPU it is always 100%. I normally get 28fps avg with no autogen and simple clouds. I can use sparse autogen OR complex clouds and get 15fps.Regards,Dick Boley

  15. My Dad is finally buying a new computer and we've been researching various price-concious options. To this day, he occasionally fires up FS2002. He's interested in a new HP box with a AMD-x2 3800 that is currently on sale. I am of the mindset, the if he wants to run FS2004 or even FSX (after the patch), then he should spend another hundred bucks and get the Core 2 Duo E6300. Don't get me wrong, I've bought nothing but AMD for the past five years or so, but everyone seems to be raving over the C2D.Either way, he'll need to add a descent video card and more RAM later on. Also, there are rumors of a descent price-cut on the C2D-line starting April 9th.Which would you choo…

I just had to pack up my USB Flight Sim Yoke from CH Products and send it back after less than 3 months of use because the No. 3 button and the lower 180 degree radius of the hat switch suddenly don't work. No reason, just stopped working. I uninstalled, reinstalled, recalibrated, and even went so far as to install a virgin copy of FS04 on my wife's computer and try to use the yoke there so there would be no addons to confuse the diagnostics, and no luck; the switches are just dead.Is this a common occurence with this product? It's the controller that nailed flight simming as a hobby for me, and I've gotten so I can't (or at least don't want to) fly without it. I'm ju…

Hi all,I'm tossing up the idea of upgrading my 7800GT for something with at least 512MB VRAM. Possibly a 7950GT. I'm intend to keep my current setup for a few more years as my MOBO (GA K8NXP-SLI) won't handle much of a CPU upgrade and when the time comes I'll spend a lot more $$ than I can afford at the moment. From what I've read on many forums, my 7800GT is probably a bottleneck for my OC'ed CPU running FSX. Alternatively, I could opt for a 8800GTS for another $300AUD and move that across to a new computer down the track.Any ideas?cheersmitchell

OK,Here is my system, and it is only 5 months old:Intel 2Duo Processor E6700 (2.66GHZ, 1066FSB) with 4MB Cache;4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz; 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card; 500GB Serial ATA II Hard Drive (7200 RPM); X-Fi PCI Sound Card.I called Dell to see if I could upgrade to a Nvidia 8800 card, since it is a DirectX 10 card. They told me the Nividia 7950 GX2 has only one connection, and the 8800 has one to the motherboard as well (total 2); therefore, I cannot upgrade to this card.I certainly don't want to buy another computer just to be able to get DirectX 10 later this year. For making FSX more mult-processor(multi core) friendly, I created a d3d9.dll proxy which intercepts all direct3D calls from FSX and send the data off to a different thread for processing. Along half way done, I decided to do some profiling of FSX's of direct3D. What I found is very interesting. I am running FSX with the system with spec in my sign. When running FSX with everything max out, it only spends between 1/4 to 1/3 of the time sending data to the video card. Also, FSX wasted very little time between frames. In other words, my little project, if sucessful, can only yield at most 30% performance increase. 30% doesn't sound that bad for an average application. Howev…

Hi. I'm looking for counsel and input on a hardware issue I'm having. Attached are six screenshots illustrating the problem. The internals are a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 AGP & Gigabyte GA-7VRXP w/an Athlon XP 2600+ and 512 MB RAM. I'm running Windows XP2 patched to currency (Don't be fooled by the Vista theme in the last shot) and using Cat 7.2/7.3 drivers. It shows itself massively during 3D games and video, but to a variable degree in 2D (desktop and boot-up screens). I've removed and reseated the card. Removed and cleaned it. Cleaned the connectors and shot air through AGP slot. It started while I was running the Cat 7.2, which I uninstalled and reinstalled. …
