Been waiting weeks for an E6700 at E6600 prices. It finally happened yesterday.I have been waiting for about a month to purchase an E6700, which I did yesterday from ZipZoomFly.com . I paid $340 which is down $175 from where it was before. You can do even better at other websites such as:http://www.antaresdigital.com/customer/sea...=e6700&x=54&y=9And the E6600 has also dropped significantly. For example at Newegg it is $235.http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....scription=e6600In short the long promised price drop has arrived. For people with slow machines... like me ... its time to take advantage until the third quarter when things promise to get even b…

Hello there,I am a Flight Instructor at an aviation school in Oregon in need of some technical assistance. We have purchased two new computers each setup with three monitors but are getting horrible frame rates. The computers themselves are not top of the line, somewhere in the single processor 3-3.4g range with 2gb of ram. They are currently running Vista. The problem is that running these systems on the absolute lowest graphical settings we average 5-8fps. These computers are superior to my own at home which gets around 12fps with average graphical settings. I believe I have narrowed down the issue. The technician's setup us up with ATI's FireMV2400 video cards. http://at…

  5. When reading about what components to build a machine for FSx, I have read a lot about what CPU or GPU to buy -- but what about other considerations. For example - it appears that the Core 2 Duo 6600 is marginally faster than the AMD 6000x2 (at the same price at my local computer store) - but what about considerations like noise, heat generation, suitability of stock coolers, matching of CPUs to GPUs (Eg should AMD be matched to ATI, Intel to NVidea?) What about power supplies - does Intel require less power than AMD?Any difference in RAM requirements between Intel and AMD? Any discussion on these kind of matters would be much appreciated.barry

Greetings all!If you happen to be among those who can't get AA to work with their Geforce 8600/8800 video card in combination with the 158.* drivers, by accident I stumbled upon the solution: set the value in Nvidia control panel AND enable anti-aliasing in the sim.I know, this goes against everything our parents tought us (grin!), but it WORKS.Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

Ever since I got my new computer I got FSAA forced on 8x. Now today I experimented a little with FSX and FSAA. I found that FSAA at 2x clearly shows jaggies. But to tell you the truth I can hardly see differences between FSAA at 4x and higher...What FSAA setting is everyone using (everyone meaning everyone who plays at 1680x1050)? 1680x1050 is a high resolution (imho): you still need FSAA to get smooth images, but is it true that anything higher than 4x is a waste of resources...? Or are there specific objects I have to look at to see a difference? And does anyone know a site with more info about this? I frequently read reviews from hardware and they test with various reso…

Hey guys, so Nvidia is about to officially come out with new drivers, also cards, 158.16 for xp and a likewise unusually high number for vista. The thing is, the xp 32bit drivers are already posted at guru3d.http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=221342I installed them and I noticed a significant improvement! The rumor is that the drivers enable some offloading from the cpu to the gpu so perhaps this is the result. For instance, in areas with lots of autogen, like anchorage where I was getting 15fps with dense autogen, I am now getting 22 with little drops to 17 with extremely dense autogen. Now of course I already had the autogendescriptions and altered no gas station…

I have an ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE mobo, AMD4800+ CPU, nVidia 7950GT, running WinXP Home. I encounter slowdowns and occasional freezes when using intensive graphics (like FSX), which appear to go away when I disable all the USB2 devices I have conencted (Logitech G15 keyboard, Logitech wireless mouse, external HD, and flight sumulation yoke and rudder pedals- the last 2 being connected through a USB external hub). If I was to disable USB on the motherboard and install a PCI card with USB2.0 connectivity, I'm wondering if this might help with this issue. I believe that by disabling USB on the mobo I am only disabling the on-board ports, and not the functionality that a PCI ca…

I've just returned from a 3 month stint in the Falklands, and anyone who has had the (mis)pleasure of visiting that place will know there is absolutely nothing there worth spending your money on. Consequently I came home with a very plump bank balance, so I treated myself to a Dell 2707WFP 27" LCD. It arrived late this afternoon, and all I can say is WOW!I've got it hooked up to my laptop, and it really is an impressive bit of kit, especially after using a 17" laptop display for so long. I've tried a couple of quick flights with FS and the difference is dramatic, it makes a huge difference flying in the VC with a large display, and IFR with 2D panels is a joy to behold. I…

Well my new DELL XPS710 arrived yesterday and I was just awestruck at its performance in both FS9 & FSX! In FS9 I get 60 to 70 FPS with every setting maxed out. And thats flying around cities like LA and Sydney! I even get around 50 FPS in these cities when I fly the PMDG 747 or LVL-D 767.In FSX with my setting at about 70% Im getting around 30 FPS in LA and Sydney with the Wilco Airbus and about 40 to 50 FPS in other areas!

I am having a bottleneck problem in fs9. I believe it is the cpu but i want to be sure by asking someone that knows more about this stuff than I do. I get excellent framerates in default aircraft. For example in the default 172 i am getting over 100fps but when I fly Level D and PMDG I get around 10-25 depending on the phase of flight. My current specs are:AMD 3700+GeForce 7600GS2 GB RAMI know my graphics card is not the fastest even though it has alot of memory. This is why i ask. I am looking at a dual core AMD 3800+ X2 if I upgrade my processor. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  19. Hi folks,As you can see from FS9(X)-rig specs below, I currently have an AMD 4000+ single-core OC to about 2.6 with 3GB of XMS RAM and a 7900GT-OC. To date, FS9 is smooth, locked at 20FPS with all the add-ons a very dense AI.With the C2D appearently spanking AMD lately, and the recent news that FSX SP1 will make better use of multiple cores, I am considering an upgrade for various reasons, after the Intel price-cuts on 4/22, to something along the lines of an EVGA 680i with a C2D E6700 OC'd and 2GB of XMS DDR2 8500C5 RAM.My question is, comparing apples to apples, has anyone else made a similar upgrade? From AMD 4000+ to C2D E6700 or E6600? Did you test FS9 (or FSX) bo…

Having contended with nvidia problems with fs2004 (6800GT and 7900gt) I can definately say this is a driver issue. When i had the 6800GT i could only get AA working with no ghosting, freezes and black box images if i used driver ver 61.77, anything after that and it was dreadful, resulting in no AA.Anyway got the 7900GT, exactly the same problems, this time an old driver wouldn't work so it was back to no AA. So I thought to myself what if i alter the inf from the 61 drivers to include the 7900GT. (not sure if i should have used new inf, but used old and included 7900GT)Installed old driver on 7900GT (61.77) and guess what AA works fine with no ghosting, no black box image…

Hi everybody. I need to put together another "semi-portable" flightsim computer, and don't have a ton of money to put into it. Which video card would be better? An AGP Bus 128 MB GeForce 5200, or a PCI Bus 256 MB GeForce 5200? Same price, both under $80. Which counts for more, the extra memory, or the AGP? I tried to find out online, with not much success. Thanks!

Hi,I'm relatively new to FS2004 and finally decided to get some CH pedals to go along with my CH yoke. The yoke works great but I'm having problems adjusting the sensitivities of the rudder and toe brakes. If I adjust the pedals for flight, it's very difficult to taxi without zig-zagging. If I adjust the pedals for taxing, the aircraft tends to yaw during turns even with the autopilot and yaw damper on.I'm using the adjustment sliders in FS9. I have a registered copy of FSUIPC and I tried using it but I don't quite understand exactly what all the numbers mean. From reading posts on this and other forums, I noticed that some folks use the CH Control Manager, FS9 sliders, an…
