Hi,I have a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz HT processor in my pc. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good processor affinity utilities that will temporarily change the affinity of all the services running so that you could put FS2004 on one logical processor and the rest of the services and applications on the other processor? Also does anyone know how much I can overclock this processor using stock cooling? Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this was covered here a million times already..I'm considering to upgrade a video card in my old AGP system. My choices are:1. POWERCOLOR X1950PRO Radeon X1950PRO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X2. SAPPHIRE 100171L Radeon X1950PRO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8XThe question is - does it make any sense to go for 512Mb card? The cost of both cards is the same.Second card requires a very powerful power supply. My current system:- P4 3.0GHz- 1Gb RAM- 2 x 150Gb SATAThanksOleg

I'm going to build a small sim/cockpit panel to use as procedure trainer for PPL students in the local flight club/school. (similar to the one on baron58.com)We're going for FS9, to keep computer hardware costs down. Graphics quality is not too important anyway. What is important, though, is having a wide view.Three projectors would be awesome, but we don't have the space or the money, so we're going for several monitors or tv's.After discovering mainboards with several PCI-express slots, I'm looking at running everything on one computer. Two screens will be used for instruments behind the panel. If we have four PCI Express x16 slots (ASUS P5W64 WS Pro), four identical gfx-c…

Intel will be reducing prices as of April 22. If you are not an overclocker, this article is very helpful as it compares competing AMD/INTC chips. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/displ...re-roundup.htmlNotice AMD is matching Intel on a Price to Performance basis, However also notice that AMD has nothing that can compete with even a lowly 2.66ghz E6700.But if you are an overclocker, there is no contest even at the mid / lower levels. With inexpensive cooling (a $50 Tuniq tower), the most expensive AMD tops out at about 3.0 ghz. The cheapest C2D will go the 3.4.An overclocker that is comparing only Performance to Performance, any Intel C2D (for instance a $113 E4300) w…

Greetings...I am in the process of Monitor selection for the new FSX system I am having built. I am confused about aspect ratio and resolution. * I want to purchase a 22" LCD monitor.* I am just about set on a Samsung 226BW. (Any opinions?) I was able to watch it at Fry's. It may not have the subtle grays of my old Sony 19" CRT, but other than that it looked great.* The aspect ratio is 16 x 10 and native resolution is 1680 x 1050. I know that is not in proportion to the standard 4 x 3. Now then, can this be adjusted so that my 2 D instruments will not be oval, but round? Also how are the VC instruments affected by this. I am a real world instrument pilot. I haven'…

Just installed Vista home premium on my P4 2.8, 1GB ram, 160GB SATA, x1650 Pro 512 MB. With XP I was getting locked 24 fps out of major metro areas. Now, with the same settings, I'm getting about 21-22 with LOTS of stuttering, and I'm noticing a lot of textures taking seconds to load (whereas before it was more of less unnoticeable). Additionally, when in window mode, I get between 0.2 and 1.1 fps :( I'm using freshly installed Cat 7.3's. Maybe try the 7.2's? Interestingly, shutting down unnecessary processes actually seems to *hurt* performance.Help for a Vista noob?Earl P.S. Is there a good free Vista compatible driver cleaner? Also, is there a good free Vista co…

I am rebuilding my system with some up to date parts and would be interested in knowing if I should set up a RAID system or not. I have ordered a ASUS P5B Deluxe, 2GB OCZ 800 MHZ (two sticks), Intel E6600, 2x Seagate 320 GB 16mb cache SATA 2, and a cheap video card to tide me over until DX10 cards are more readily available (EVGA 7600 GT KO). I will be installing this in combination with some of the equipment that I have already, in particular the 160GB WD HD. The plan is to use the two seagate drives in RAID if it is beneficial and then keep all important files backed up on the 160 gb drive. What do you guys think and if you have any other good ideas I would be inter…

Hey, i baught a Radeon X1300 PCI 256 MB graphics card, yes, pci, not pci-e. I thought it would make FSX run better than my onboard video card, but it sucks!!! I cant play with any autogen, and i cant fly at any big airports or i get about 2-3 FPS with everything lowered. Is there anything i can do, because i only have PCI and PCI-e x1 slots on my mobo.

Hi all,I just upgraded my old Sapphire ATI 9600Pro (8x AGP, 256mb) to a XFX GeForce 7600GT (PCIE 16x, 256mb). I removed the old drivers, installed the new card, installed the newest Nvidia drivers and loaded up a flight in FS9 that I had saved and tested with my old video card. With the new card installed I saw essentially no difference! I realized that it might be my old power supply (300W), so I bought a new 500W power supply (Antec EA500, +12V 17 amp) but that didn't do anything either. Arggg.... Perhaps it's some other component dragging it down, but I find it hard to believe that the 7600GT wouldn't improve upon the dusty old 9600Pro. I even set both the AA and…

Good afternoon all, I have just one quick question for today. If my video card asks for a 350 watt power supply and I have a 300 watt power supply, yet the video card seems to work just fine, will I notice an improvement in any way, shape, or form if I replace my 300 watt with a 500.

If you're like me, you hate the detents on the otherwise fine Saitek X52 / X52 Pro. It would be cool if we could have the lower detent engage reversers or something, but we can't. And, I've never had a flight simulation program that would engage afterburner using the upper detent either. So all they do is interfere with smooth operation of the throttle. So I got rid of them, and it's really easy. The attached pics show the process (X52 Pro version, X52 is the same though).First, you remove the 8 recessed screws holding on the lower half of the throttle base. Then the base comes apart easily with the base as a separate piece of plastic, and all the electronics and wires …

Hi all,I'm in the planning stages of upgrading my pc with a new MB, CPU, memory, and GPU. I have a legitimate copy of Windows XP Home currently installed. What will I have to do to use this same OS on the upgraded system? (The old MB, Processor, will not be used in another system).I tried the MS support site, but couldn't find an understandable answer.Dale
