Tom's Hardware using FSX as a test title for video cards. While we all know FSX is a cpu dependent program, their addition of FSX to test titles should help in selecting a video card.http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/04/24/spr...ga_charts_2007/Richard

Despite trying new updated drivers and custom profiles, I still find that with various aircraft--typically the sophisticated add-ons such as PMDG and Level-D--my frames fall by a substantial amount when I have Track IR4 Pro active. Frames fall by around 30% which is a lot.Does anybody have ANY idea why this happens? I am very puzzled since I have a hi-end Dell rig that supports about 15 hardware add-ons for FS9, including Triplhead2Go with three monitors, and I have no issues with any software, any other hardware, video drivers, FSUIPC or anything else.Track IR 4 Pro is a very impressive piece of work but I am unable to enjoy it as much as I would like because of these …

I was hoping to read how it effects FS9. It supports the GF 6800GS x512 and the GF 6800GT. Improves performance ,etc, with the "Call Of Duty" game, they say. However I'm interested with FS9. Any comments? THANX VIN

I am not sure if this is the right forum but I 'll try anyway. Tom's hardware had a comparison charts of different video cards for FSX. Its interesting that FSX doesn't benefit from the newer video cards such as 8800GTX. No performance gain. Nadda. Zip!http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_200...2=722&chart=293

I understand that % gains can be easily had from overclocking Intel Core 2 Duo CPU's -- but my question to anyone who has done this, does it really show up as a real FPS increase in the real world - and is the FPS increase sufficient to justify any possible risk (plus the extra cost of an addon cooler?)Thanks Barry

Looking at this products very low price tag I am very tempted to try it out after suffering from somewhat poor performance with my current pc. Initially my goal was going to be to wait for k8l before upgrading, but since I wont be able to take advantage of ddr3 without a new mobo and ram and because the price is sure to be out of my range for some time for the performance I will want I am thinking about the 6000+. Right now with my 3800 at 2.8 I am getting fps in the 20's on the ground with detailed airports, and for some reason frf airports are in the teens, fly tampa is in the 20's. And occasionally they drop even lower depending on certain things. I have my frames …

...and I have no intention of buying Vista right now, as I don't need it, here is a reasoned and balanced viewpoint on why we need to just sit back and relax.http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html...W50aHVzaWFzdA=="I look at the impact Windows has made on the world, and it simply impresses me. Let's face it: Microsoft's Windows operating systems did not make $10,000,000,000.00 (yes, ten billion US Dollars) in 2006 because its products are inherently bad. You can scream,

It sounds as though AMD/ATI's R600 is going to be trounced by the 8800 GTX (let alone the 8800 Ultra). Given the precarious position AMD is in, this is a really scary development if these benchmarks are correct. We better hope for the sake of competition AMD's Barcelona class CPUs are really something, otherwise we are going to be left with monopolies in both the CPU and GPU markets.http://www.dailytech.com/ATI+Radeon+HD+290...article7052.htm

hey all, I just got an X52 Flight Control System, thing is, im not sure how best to set it up with FSX. By this, I mean Im not sure what the best axis setting, button settings and sensitivities are for the X52. Ive been playing around with it myself however I cant seem to get it just right. I downlaoded the X52 profile for FSX, but I dont really know where to go from there, because even with the profile I would assume I need to adjust things in game to match up properly with the profile. Plus, once I installed the profile my buttons stopped working in game... What would be fantastic is if someone could direct me to a comperhensive set up guide for the X52 for use with FSX…

I've been running TrackIR 3 without any issues for over two years until today. Now I can't start the unit at all.TrackIR software from the Main page says : NO DEVICE DETECTEDWhen I switch USB ports I get this from Windows : ONE OF THE USB DEVICES ATTACHED TO THIS COMPUTER HAS MALFUNCTIONED, AND WINDOWS DOES NOT RECOGNIZE IT.I tried all the usual stuff...unistall/ reinstall...different drivers from Natural Point....reboots...tried all my USB ports and now I'm here :-) Also, I tried installing and running it on my laptop and I get the same messages.Could the unit simply have ' broken ' somehow ?posted to Track Ir support as well....cheersGreghttp://www.fs2crew.com/linepilo…

I understand from reading audio forums that installing Win2000 (and I imagine XP though don't know) one can choose Standard-PC mode by pressing F5 key in which case IRQ sharing is avoided? In any case, it appears to be something one could do and at least in audio applications it can make the difference between stuttering and not, that is by not have the audio card share an IRQ with another component. For the brave or crazy or those with lots of time on there hands for repairs, one can take a chance and change to Standard AFTER a normal ACPI installation and get away with it, though it sounds like this can be iffy.Anyone tried this first hand as far as FS goes? Sounds i…

Hey guys,Quick question. I'm looking at upgrading the my 7800 GT 256mb Video card to the 8800 series. I'm only running FSX. System at the moment is E6600 o/c to 3.2ghz with 4gb of Kingston 667Mhz RAM. I've only got a 19" monitor, so not looking at resolutions above 1280x1024. I'm reading many different reviews on the 8800 GTX, GTS 640mb and GTS 320mb. Am I corrct in understanding A) That the most benifit I'll see from the GTX is being able to run superhigh AA and AF without an FPS hit? :( With FSX I really should be looking at 512Mb or higher? The 320mb GTS is well priced, but I'm reluctant to buy a new card and not really add a heap of memory. Does anybody have any input …

For some time now I've been considering buying rudder pedals. But I'm still on the fence about spending a couple hundred. For those of you who have them, do you think it's worth the cost and does it really add more realism to flight? Or, in hindsight ... is it something you could have done without?

I use the ASUS 8LNI mobo and two Nvidia GT 6800 cards in SLI mode.I want to run two monitors for FS but am having probs with displays.First I obtained the ATI Radeon 9250 graphics card which did the trick but, dominated a lower display number thus controlling the sim and with 3fps with the default Cessna at KSEA was unacceptable.I removed that card and replaced with a reccomended Radeon 7000 which I was told WOULD work.It displayed the same problem. Can anyone give me some guidance as to what I can do to remedy the situation please?

Up till about a month ago I have always used nVidia adapters, however my new rig came with an ATI card and I don't quite understand the Profile Manager.I know how to set up and activate profiles but am confused as to how to determine what settings have been applied to each individual profile. For instance:I have 4 profilesDesktopFSXFS9Elder Scrolls IV1. How can I display what the current settings are for each different profile? I feel like I'm missing something easy. 2. After I exit an application that has a profile tied to it does the active profile return to the one that was being used before that application was started? My guess is no.

Hi,Further investigation into my C2D/680i project, I think I've settle on the Evga 680i A1 MB. I see plenty of RAM FSB vs Timing discussions over at the EVGA forum regarding lower timings vs higher stock FSB ratings. I prefer Corsair and so I can't decide on whether the XMS 800 with C4 timings is as good as XMS 1066 with C5 timings. Especially where FS9 & FSX is concerned, and it's unique heavy loading on the CPU. General hardware forums don't take FS into account very often, so I pose the question here, among my knowledgeable friends and peers. Your opinions and expereince? Also, can someone please confirm for me that the Evga 680i-A1 MB has a HARDWARE raid-5 opt…

This is an odd one. I thought I knew all about file sharing and security on my own computer -- apparently not.I use partitioning. Recently I had to reformat Windows because of the usual buildup of muck on it, so I religiously reformat the Windows partition once or twice a year. However this time an odd issue arose. Some of my folders, on one partition in particular, are now read only to me. I am not allowed to delete them, I am not allowed to move them -- I can only run them. I CAN access them from my second computer on the network, but the situation is still the same -- i cannot edit the files, just look at them.I can't believe I've been denied permission to do what …

Just wondering if anyone is having problems with AA setting(hardware)?Updated to the cat 7.4's and when I set AA in hardware to 4x, I get no AA. Using X1900XTX. Did complete uninstall and ran Drivercleaner Pro. 7.3's and all other drivers work fine. This is a first for me. I always set AA to 4x and ansio to 8x in hardware and in software I leave render to texture checked and t&l checked and trilinear filtering.Thank-You,Ted

I ask since I'm investigating upgrade options and I get contradictory information about this. Now got a S939 AGP mb and replacing it seems the best option. But I have been told that this would mean I must buy a new Windows XP license. I also think I have read here that people has reinstalled Win on a new motherboard without any problems except a phone call for activation. Also the the reseller of my Win believes it won't be a problem. I also had to activate by phone last time since automatic activation was denied because,'This license has already been activated the maximun number of times'No mention of hardware changes to big. Really only the primary harddrive had changed…

Well, i did it. Finallly got some money to upgrade. System wasAMD 64 X2 4600, Nvidia 7900 GS 256Meg, 2 Gig Corsair value ram 667 MHz,Asus M2N mobo. 2 By 256 gig Harddrives. I first upgraded the Video card to Nvidia 8800 GTS 320 meg. Checking framerates at a saved position at London Cit airport, no increase. Actually when i rebooted the machine with the drivers that came with the card my framerates dropped, dont know why so got lates Betas and they worked fine but still no FPS increase. I then updated CPU to AMD 64 X2 6000. Well I gained a whole 5 FPS. Thats it . No more. FPS went from 20 to 25, locked at 30. Semms that CPU is bottleneck but will see when I upgrade mem to…

Hello,I've seen the 7.4 problem, but mine is not connected to that!I am using 7.3's and it appears that my AA simply won't start sometimes - better said, I just bought a 32" Samsung LCD, which I have connected as a 2nd monitor (but not using it for FS), and the problem is, if desktop is extended, AA in FS won't start. To "reenable" it again, I have to remove the 2nd desktop and reboot the system. Changing modi in Catalyst panel doesn't help.Anyone having similar issues?EDIT: Just did the test using 6x AA. It works! Going back to 4x, again doesn't work. Only after reboot 4x works.EDIT2: Forget everything. Went back to 7.1, issue resolved. I think both 7.3 and 7.4 are bad.
