Hi all,Could anyone advise on optimal 8800GTS settings for FSX?I can pretty much max everything out. It works ok but with some impact on frame rates. What is optimal perf/quality combination? My specs: P4 3.0; 2Gb RAM; WinXP Pro; 8800GTS 320/640; FS9 and FSX. Unfortunately cant get the card to work in FS9.... Did everything from tweaking to HD format and reinstallation from scratch - the FS9 just doesn't seem to pickup any changes in the 8800GTS control panel. ThnxIL76

With the iminent release of of SP1, and a possible re-install of FSX coming my way, I am leaning towards getting a 150 gig WD Raptor for my FS install.FS stuff is all I'd put on the drive...I think.Or should I get the 74 gig? With the 74 gig, would I run out of space for add-ons like terrain mesh? What is wisest course or action?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case

Hello,I ran a search of the forum, but couldn't find very relevant posts, so I apologize if this question has been asked a lot of times before.I have been simming from time to time for the last 2 years, and I've been using a Logitech Attack 3 joystick. However, it has almost completely died on me. In fact, the axes started having major problems quite shortly after I got it, and now it is almost non-usable. I have heard many bad stories about the reliability of Logitech joysticks (even the expensive ones), i.e. that they tend to die quickly. I don't find it surprising, as potentiometers are mechanical devices that do not tend to last long.I now want to purchase a new joyst…

So far, so good. BUT, if I undock the 2D main instrument panel and move it to my second monitor, the framerate drops to 2-3 …

Hi everyone,I have an IRQ of 18 for both my nVidia 7950GT PCI-E (16)card and my Creative SB Audigy 2ZS PCI card. I'm not sure of having PCI-e for the video changes the need to have these on separate IRQ numbers. If I was to change the sound card to another IRQ slot on my A8N-32 board, do I need to uninstall the card first, then load drivers again to re-install it, or is it just a matter of moving the card and the PC will see it at the new slot and IRQ?Thanks, Bruce.

  9. I have previously implemented a NVIDIA VCG8800GTX, 768MB Video card with dual monitors along with a secondary Diamond Stealth III S540 PCI card for a third monitor. My PCI card seems to have bitten the dust. It shows no errors in the System Devices, and the green light on the front of the monitor comes on during bootup somewhat indicating reception of a signal, but the screen remains black and I cannot enable it in the Properties/Settings/Advanced options any longer. The monitor works fine if I switch it to my 8800GTX card so I don't believe it is the monitor. (Has worked for years until I turned it on this morning)I am thinking of purchasing a less expensive Nvidia GEForce…

My Dell 8400 was stolen the other day during a break in. It was a 3.2 GHz, 1Gb ram machine and it ran FSX without a problem. The insurance company is offering me a Dell XPS 410 as an equivalent, and if it actually is an equivalent I will be very satisfied. Some of the features are Intel E6400 dual core 2.13 GHz, nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS, and Vista business version. Everything else sounds at least as good as what I had before.Does this sound like a reasonable replacement? I don't understand why the old one is 3.2 GHz and the new one is 2.13 GHz. I can have cash instead of the computer but I'm not prepared to spend a lot of time researching this. (I'd rather be flying)Thanks…

Since upgrading my graphics card from an Nvidia 6600GT to an ATI Radeon X1950 (and doing a clean install of Win XP), i have noticed a slight graphics problem when running the PMDG 747-400 add-on on FS 2004.The outline of the aircraft seems to look all "zig zaggy". When I had my old graphics card, I had a perfectly smooth outline (just the way it should be!).I only installed the new graphics card last week, and have the latest Cataylst Graphics driver. Is there possibly a setting in the Cataylst Software that needs tweaking. I have tried all sorts but never managed to rectify the problem described!Any ATI Radoen users's had a similar issue? I've got Vista Home Premium running on a spare hard drive just for testing purposes. Tomorrow I upgrade my computer and would like to install Vista on my main hard drive.Question is, how will it activate? Will it already see me as having Vista already active? How can I un-activate the test version? This was a full install onto a blank disk, so I can't uninstall it.Any help appreciated.

hey all, I am in the process of buying a new PC for fs2004.....I have no plans to go to FSX any time soon and will in all likely hood skip FSX and wait for FS 11 as FS9 does everything i want and I have spent too much money on add-ons.....having said this my current system (P4 3.0 ghz, 1 G ram, 256 mb saphire radeon card) really struggles at times to give me good frame rates and I have to dial down most eye candy, AI traffic, weather etc....I would like to build a system that gives me framerates 20-30 CONSISTENTLY with all the sliders maxed out or nearly maxed out.......what can u guys recommend.....I guess dual processors is the way to go???? if you could give m…

Please see attached screenshot. I replaced my well-aged TI-4200 128MB with an X1650 Pro 512 card on my design machine. I know it's a lower end card but expected an improvement over the TI4200 - especially since I went from 128 to 512 MB. The new card takes a long time to load the textures where they loaded almost instantly with the TI4200. The textures on the main terminal in the foreground of the picture will not load regardless of how long I wait.I used nfr (Nvidia removal tool) then installed the latest Catalyst drivers from the ATI website.I have no idea what's going on but I have never seen such a poor quality display - slow and non-loading textures, insane jaggies.…

Got a new PC last week and it just kills FSX. I'm running all my setting at about 75% and getting good smooth frames. Around 30-40 in Cities and 60 or 70 at altitude or over country areas and ocean. I've not tweaked and cfg files so I am really happy with FSX. Looking forward to SP! :)

Normally, at standard speed it's around 85 deg F. At what temperature should I start to get worried? And what temperatures are acceptable when overclocking. Also, I only have standard cooling. Thanks,Jeff

Everything works great for a 5-10 minutes period and then suddenly the fps drops to 2 or even 0.5! Then if I enter the map or pause FSX a…
