Quick question with regard to FS2004:What would help me the most in reducing the blurries and improving texture load times?-- adding 1 GB RAM?-- putting all my FS2004 program and scenery files on a new hard drive, separate from the rest of my computer?-- none of the above?I have a limited budget (no more than $80 preferably). My current setup is a Gateway 556G, 3.0 GHz, 2 GB RAM, and GeForce 6600GT (128 MB).thanks!!

Hi Fellow Simmers.I went to the Nvida site and installed the latest driver 158.24.I then loaded up ASX then my FSD aircraft and left the room for approximately 20 min. When I returned I found my Screen was Dark and text at the bottom indicating that my screen saver could not open up.The only way I was able to get back to my Desk Top was to Ctr.Alt.Del the exit out of ASX which after trying to restart ASX placed it in my Task bar which is another story.I then went back to the Nvidia site and went to the Nvidia Beta Driver Download, and after it checked my computer settings I received a message that I should go back to my last driver 158.18 which I did.I now have everything …

  9. I hope this doesn't get dumped into the hardware section, well for at least a day or two...Guys and Gals,If you have an ATI vid card in the X800 or X850 (or probably for most recent ATI cards) product range or near there, you'll be interested in this.It seems that for XP users, Cat 7.1 was the last FULL XP oriented driver set. Past that release, Vista was incorporated more and more into the driver packages. Read the release notes to see what past Cat 7.1 is addressed and for what operating system. Now, I'm not saying that there might not be a mention of Vista showing up in 7.1 release notes, but by reading the optimizations, they were very low-level at this release and mo…

Somewhere I read that using an onboard sound processor on your motherboard is slowing down FSX game play. In fact, they were saying that using a sound card, improved frame rates with up to 100% (probably on slower systems)So I was thinking of buying a separate sound card.I don't want to spend too much money (ca. 30-40GBP or 60-80 US$, in that area). What card would be the best option, and is it true that a separate sound card can drastically improve frame rates?cheers!

For CH products, in conjunction with the CH control mgr. Mr. Robert Church developed the cmfsv100 Control Assignment Utility back in 2002. I have been exceedingly pleased to use this contribution on my CH Yoke and Footpedals for some years. It allows for as many varied maps as desired (which I seldome used). It also allowed a shift function for one button which doubled the functions of all other buttons (which has spoiled me rotten increasing capability from twelve functions to twenty-three unique functions). Unfortunately, this does not work as of yet with FSX as there is no devices.cfg file. I have tried to just originate one and use it in the same way as FS9, but have …

  13. I know there are a thousand variables and no precise answer. But since I'm not very hardware savvy, I'm wondering, by having onboard sound as opposed to a dedicated sound card, how much video performance am I sacrificing (bleeding off of the CPU)?Forgive me if that question wasn't framed well. I think you know what I mean. I just want to know if there would be any discernable performance increase if bought a sound card and installed it.Thank you,Steve

Hi All, It's sometime since I needed to visit for advice, but have been most grateful for help previously. I have an old system by todays standards but my FS9 setup runs pretty well and I have far better frame rates than many people posting here report on their machines. 'Frame rates' however are not everything and on occasion there is some jerkyness.I have a K7N2 motherboard with the nVidia nForce 2 chipset. It has an Athlon XP2700+ CPU (Socket A). (I'm planning on 2 gig with the ability to expand to 4 gig later)I plan on keeping my old system, so I need to purchase a new win xp home - do I need to buy the full edition or can I get an OEM version? (I may upgrade to Vista later). Thanks for any help,Dale

Hi Folks,I've got a bizarre issue with FS9 performance, my basic setup is as follows:Intel core 2 duo E6600 2.4 GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7600GT, win xp.Eveything is as it comes out the box, no overclocking and all my drivers /patches are up to date.I've been running fs9 maxed out, with no addons at all I'm getting more than 40fps at all times. With the most complex vc and all the PAI traffic/afcads I can lay my grubby hands on I'm, get 35fps at JFK even in heavy weather. Needless to say, I'm a happy camper. The problem is that I've been happily simming for a few months, then one day (no changes to the sim or addons) my fps drops to 10.0 and refuses to move. Dear Friends,I have an ATI Radeon X1950XTX with 512Mb of RAM on my system but even with the new Service Pack 1 for FSX installed the card is still running in uderclocked mode. This is the mode in which the card reduces its GPU and memory clocks up to 1/3 when in 2D mode, e.g. Windows desktop (I used ATITrayTools to watch the clocks during game play)FSX is the only 3D application that has this issue with the specific card, since 3DMark06 and other 3D games utilize the card's capabilities all the way up.I will be very pleased if you share some ideas, or even a solution to this.System Config:CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600 @2.4GHzM/B: Asus P5W64 WS ProRAM: 2x 1GB OCZ DDR2 @ 800MhzGPU:…

I just removed my Nvidia GeForce FX5500 video card and replaced it with an ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256MB card. I downloaded and installed the latest ( v7.5 ) drivers. When I start FS9, I see gray planes, white runways and taxiways and the sky textures aren't right. When I start FSX, I see black planes, runways and taxiways, not gray. On one aircraft, I saw colors on one side of the plane, while the other side was shiny aluminum.I've been playing with hardware settings, but have had no luck getting things right. Everything looked and worked fine with the GeForce card earlier today.Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated... ...Steve2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 6464…

I run a RAID0 pair of drives, and back up to a 3rd HD configured as a stand-alone drive. I would like to create an image of C: on this 3rd drive, so that if either of the RAID0 drives go out I could jusr swap the SATA connectors and boot to this drive, then run my restore from my back-ups.Can anyone recommend an application to create an image of C: onto my 3rd drive? Thanks- Bruce.
