I posted here some time ago asking about what was involved with moving a sound card, and the answer was to just move it. That worked OK.Is it that same with a video card? I have a 7950GT, and have found that the (blue) slot that I have it in does not support dual 16-bit video (I run 2 monitors), but the other (black) PCI-e slot does (from the asus forum). Can I just move the video card? Or am I better uninstalling, moving the re-installing?Thanks- Bruce.

I'm considering an upgrade and I have Win XP. From what I have heard this means I can't have DX10. Does this mean that it's pointless to consider a nvidia 8XXX series card? Or is such card more powerful than a 7600 even if only using DX9?

I just upgraded my Asus 128MB 6600GT to an XFX 256MB 8600GT. No, it's not the GTS or 8800GTX, but it's all I need...or so I thought. I was so excited to see a huge difference in my sim...didn't happen. We went the opposite direction! I was getting better images with my 6600GT. I've got AA turned up to 8x, Force Mipmaps to Trilinear and AF set to 8x, etc, etc. What the heck am I doing wrong? I've been messing with the settings for over an hour and can't get the jaggies to go away!! I'm running Forceware drivers 158.22. I'm so bummed that I'm even thinking of putting my 6600GT back in! Anybody got any advice?Sorry for hurting the eyes...http://forums.avsim.net/use…

  5. Hi Guys, ExtremeTech tested Company of Heroes, which Relic Entertainment has just patched for compatibility with DX10. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2143672,00.aspGiven the benefits claimed for DX10, surely we could expect SOME INDICATION of a significant improvement in graphics quality or frame rates? But no, the actual results were:1. Despite a shopping list of claimed graphics improvements, to the eye the difference was barely discernible to non-existent. 2. Frame rates of the DX10 version were ONE THIRD of the DX9 version. Now this is a patch, not a game designed from the ground up for DX10 like Crysis. Hang on! That's exactly the situation with FSX!…

I'm putting together a system for FSX using 4 monitors on a board with two PCI-E x16 slots (ASUS DH Deluxe) split into two 8x with two cards installed. I have two X1950XT 512MB cards on the way from New Egg. Each one will drive 2 monitors, and at least 3 of the monitors will have 3d on them. Here's the question:Does the second card help rendering the graphics on the screen, or are all of the graphics on all 4 screens rendered by the primary card?I don't want to have a high end card in the second slot if it's not doing any of the rendering; that is, if it's just there to add monitor ports. Thanks in advance!

Hello All!As part of a new system that I plan to build in the next few weeks or so, I'm looking at the ASUS Striker Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX mobo. I would like to dabble in overclocking for the first time with this new system. Does an app (preferably a Windows type of app)come with this mobo that makes overclocking a relatively painless process (and one that a newbie to overcloking can understand)? Also, does it have any sort of protection routine, like if I try to go too far, it sort of "resets itself" before any harm is done? Thanks!!Paul

Since I installed a newer ATI vid card into my old machine, I had to install the ATI Catalyst Control Centre (as part of the driver installation). This Control panel also requires the Mocrosoft .NET framework to operate. The control centre itself has a very large footprint - much larger that the old Catalyst drivers had - and also I occasionally have problems with the .NET framework When shutting my machine down, I sometimes get an error messsage that says the machine is waiting for some .NET application to close. looking this error message up on the Internet shows that many people have the same problem Also sometimes, when I change a setting in the control panel, it some…

With a planned computer upgrade I would like to move from using two 19" monitors (the first for the main panel;the second for the pop-up windows)to a larger display for the main panel in 2D mode. FSX is not designed for a widescreen application and I understand Microsoft has no plans in that regard in the forseeable future. So it appears to be a choice between accepting a stretched widescreen display or a display interrupted by basels such as when using a quad display (e.g. four 19" monitors - two above/two below - resulting in a screen size of 24" X 30"). I would much appreciate any advice on what may currently be the best way to obtain an acceptable 2D display that is l…

Hi, I'm seeking a little memory upgrade advice. I have a mediocre computer that I want to hold me over until FSX dx10 patch arrives. It is a P4 3.0 HT with 1 gb of RAM, and an AGP 6800gt. FSX runs surprisingly well and does not suffer from blurries, if I do not get too aggressive with the sliders. Memstatus shows my memory usage at anywhere from 750 to 950mb depending on where I am flying and for how long. The memory usage seems to go up over time.I have an MSI 865PE based motherboard with with 4 memory slots. Installed currently are 2 sticks of Crucial 512 mb memory. I called Crucial about getting two more matched sticks of 512 memory to give me a total of 2gb. They said…

Hi guys,I'm using FSX on a quite good computer. A week ago I bought a new screen, a Viewsonic 22" widescreen. I'm using FSX at resolution 1680x1050x32. During flights at daytime everything looks great. But when I'm flying nighttime everything's shimmering/flickering and the flight sim just looks terrible. The ground textures in FSX looks "alive". I think it's got to do with my graphics card, GeForce 7900 GS 256 MB. Now I'm about to buy the best graphics card money can buy and I want something that will really help me get the framerates to increase in FSX. Any thoughts? What card would you advice me to get? Price is not an issue.ThanksTomas
