Looking for some opinions here.I'm going to be building a new PC with three disks:2 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA drives1 150 GB 10000 RPM SATA drive.I'm going to use 1 of the 500 GB drives as a backup disk, where I'll write all my OS/Apps/Data Backups. The question I have is, should I use the 150 GB disk for my FS9/FSX installation(s), or should I put the OS on it instead? My intuition is that I'll get the best performance by putting the Flightsim apps on it since there are all the texture files and such that will benefit from the fast read rate, but want to be sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot by having my OS (and swap file) on a slower disk.

I am having a problem with connections from a new power supply.I recently bought a new computer: HP m8020n. Came with C2D E6420, 2GB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM, Windows Vista Home Premium. Also a nVIDIA GeForce 7350 LE, which I want to upgrade.Bought a 8800 GTS (320 mb). Got a 430W PS (26 on the +12) which is supposed to be enough for the card. The problem I am having is with the connections to the hard drives. There are two (SATA- 320GB ech)), but the distance between them is greater than the distance between the connectors from the power supply, so I can only connect power to either one, but not both.I am looking for a SATA extension, but I was wondering- shouldn't I be able to…

Before I get started, i'd like to say that I don't understand much about computers so please try to explain things so if I don't understand something, I will.:-) A friend of mine set up everything needed for a wireless internet connection. I'm getting an excellent signal and apparently all should be good, but it isn't. Although the signal is great and all, I can hardly use the web, it's so slow. I've run a speed test from Cnet multiple times, and although it isn't always accurate each time I was between 40kbs and 250kbs. My friend set up the connection for another computer down the hall, and it runs fine, getting between 1000kbs to 1500kbs on the same test, but I only use…

I'm using FS9 and want to get 2 or 3 SATA2 7200rpm disks e.g.:Disk1: WinXPDisk2: PagefileDisk3: FS9Q1) What is the best performing 7200 SATA2 hard disk in the 250GB to 320GB size, or are they all pretty much the same?. (I've heard good things about the Hitachi T7K500 series and the Samsung T166 series drives).Q2) I'd rather not use such large drives but smaller drives such as 80GB or 160GB only have 8MB buffers. For FS9 would I see a performance advantage if my hard disks have the larger 16MB buffers - does FS9 not access lots of smaller size files when running?

I have an old P4 3.4 (478 socket) computer that's running FS9 between 24 - 36 FPS on 1280x768x32 with a 22" monitor. I also have ASv6, FE, UT, and a AI traffic program with the traffic slider at 85%. The computer currently has 1GB RAM DDR400 and an ATI 9800 Pro with 128MB (AGP 8X slot).I'm trying to run this old computer to it's maximum before I build a new one sometime next year. I will max out the allowed RAM by replacing the current dual channel 1GB RAM for 2GB sometime this week.Which video card would be a great replacement for the current one (AGP 8X)? It would be great if the new video card could run FS9 at 1680x1050x32 on the 22", I can do it now with my current vi…

...but not when I use FS2004's in-game antialiasing, which makes everything looks much smoother. However, I believe that with my 8800GTS's 16x antialising, I wouldn't need FS2004's in-game antialiasing - if it's not on, then there's jaggies everywhere. And I read in every tweaking guide that FS2004's antialiasing should be turned off (which would give me jaggies). Any ideas? I'm running 158.22, by the way.Nicolas in CYOW

I am interested in buying a Dell 3007WFP-HC 30-inch widescreen monitor ( along with a new system based on Intel Core 2 Duo E6700,Geforce 8800 GTX,4 Gig DDR2 SDRAM).Have read some good reports about the Dell 2405FPW widescreen monitor here but non about the 3007WFP.My simple question is would it be a good choice to run FS9 and possibly FSX on such an extreme w-i-d-e monitor or would the Dell 2405FPW be a better choice ?....Any suggestions highly appreciated !Cheers,Jan

Thinking of upgrading my desktop, so I can run FSX. Looking at the quad core HP with 3 gigs of memory. I will also upgrade the video card to a 8800 (Nivida) or a 8600. As far as the card choice is concerned, the only difference between the two is HD something. Need advice on this overall choice and whether I need the more expensive HD card.ThanksRegards,Ed

Yesterday I was running FSX (SP1) with a little memory usage utility which showed a peak of 1.76GB. I have two sticks of Corsair CM2X1024-6400 on the board now. I'm about to add some complex aircraft (PMDG 747 and LVLD 767), ASX and X-graphics and FS2Crew when available.Should I put in another couple sticks? I've read that two more 1GB sticks would be pointless since most (or all) of the last GB would not be available to MSFS with 32bit XP. I haven't been able to find CM2X512-6400 anywhere. What can I use instead that would be compatible?Or, am I concerned unnecessarily?
