As suspected and as with most things in our cherished hobby, one must sacrifice one or more things to get to a goal. My goal was splashing my virtual cockpits across three 19" monitors. The Matrox Triplehead box did that but it takes a LOT of power to drive it and I have had to tone down some sliders to accommodate the drain on the overall performance. I use a mid-range Intel Duo Core 2 and by golly when they release Penryn next year, I'll be getting one. I'm using a 512meg NVidia 8500 as my base card, someday I'll spring for more. Until then, seeing your VC in near full real-life size including the first officers side and the wide expanse of the outside FSX world is unde…

I've just installed a new graphics card and and some more ram onto my computer to make FS9 run more smoothly, but there's been little appreciable difference in performance.I run an Intel P4 3.2 processor with 1MB L2 cache. It used to run a GeForce 6600GT 128mb graphics card and 2 x 512mb dual channel ddr ram but I've replaced this with an ATI X1650 pro 512mb card and 2mb of ram. There has been a modest improvement in frame rates and overall performance but in high density scenery areas like London Heathrow it's still a slide show with frame rates of around 6fpm.I have most of the sliders pushed to the right, frame rates set to a max of 30 and ai traffic at 50%.Now I'm left …

Confused again - seems to be a common state lately. :)Will be putting together a system using the NVidia 680i chipset. System has Nvidia buiilt in RAID controller. Documents say that " to install XP on a RAID system you need to create a RAID driver disk"ok, except that my configuration will be:1 - SATA drive w/3 partitions for XP/Vista(maybe)/Programs2 - SATA drives in RAID 0 for FSX and other gaming items1 - SATA drive for backupSince the OS is NOT on a RAID volume, do I need to load the RAID driver disk when installing XP?Thanx,VicVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterRadar Contact Supporter: http://…

With a 3GHz AMD at newegg for under 170 usd, are they still something worth getting for FS? My 2.2GHz 3200+ has been a good processor, and still is. But eventually, I would like to upgrade for FSX. My question is this: Can AMD still cut it for flight simulation?

Hi,I have new PC machine: Intel Dual Core 6600, Asus P5B-E, 2048 Mb Ram 800 MHz, Baracuda 320 GB SATA II with Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTX. I fly on FS 2004 and my frame rate is very good (minimum 26 FPS with all complex addons), but I have problem with graphic card setting. My textures are not so sharp as I expected and runways and buildings seems to be without antialiasing correction. I have tried many, many combinations in card setting (via nvividia control center), but it seems to be without any effect. I experienced visible changes only when I changed graphic setting inside FS. But it is still very bad quality. I am very disappointed with so expensive graphic card. In an…

Q6600 or E6850, that is the question, and a tough question at that. I keep going back and forth between these two, and with the price cuts coming shortly I really need to get my mind set on one or the other. From what I read FSX utilizes 2 of the 4 cores on the quad while the other 2 sit there doing nothing? But I don't want any surprises, like microsoft rewriting code to utilize all 4 cores and releasing it with the dx10 patch. I'd be hosed at that point. If the E6850 is going to perform better while keeping up with texture loading than the choice is clear. I'm going to overclock either way, the Q6600's with G0 stepping are being hyped up big time for their overclocking a…

Interesting read at Anandtech:http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3034Makes you wonder why 64bit isn't commonplace by now... 32bit addressing was introduced in '86... over TWENTY years ago, and 64bit on the desktop isn't even close to prime time yet. "A messy transition" is an understatement!

Quick heads-up from the industry: I took part yesterday in a presentation of new motherboards by a global motherboard brand at their Taipei HQ. The new MBs run the E6750, Intel's first (of many) Dual Core chips with 1333 MHz at the front end and it was amazing!! The processor runs stable OC'ed to almost 4 GHz. Launch will be in July, prices for other DC models will drop around 25% around July 20-31.

Nvidia's XP drivers have a "Horizontal Span Mode." This allows a user to stretch the desktop across numerous monitors. It provides a single horizontal resolution equal to:Monitor 1's horizontal res + Monitor 2's hr + Monitor 3's hr + etc, by__ the minimum Vertical resolution of the monitor set. This is not the "Extend my desktop to this monitor" function. This is called "Horizontal Span mode" and it sounds just like the THTG function. The Nvidia/Vista Control panel help index describes this function is not available with Vista. I'd try it myself, but I don't have an Nvidia/XP set.Has anyone tried this?

I have a 4 monitor setup with 3 across and one below in middle under the center monitor. 1 AGP card and 1 PCI card. The left monitor is forward/left, the right is forward/right, and center is forward.Question, I notice that on some of my aircraft, the horizon lines up pretty good all the way across. But on some, it is not good, the center seems to not be able to line up the horizon. Its either to high or to low. Also, the screens don't quite match up along the edges near the center monitor. For example, as I turn while taxiing, I can see the same object on both screens for a moment as it passes across them. All zooms are 1. I can adjust seat height up and down on center/m…

I've been out of the FS Loop for a bit. I love FSX but it doesn't run worth a crap on my current system (AMD64 3200 / 2GB Ram / Geforce 6800 128mb base), and I've grown tired of FS2004.I spotted this system on sale for a reasonable price, and I was wondering what kind of performance I could expect with FSX SP1, and what settings I could get away with. I realize the Video Card is a bit weak, though I figure a 7350 is still better than my current 6800, and it is on a PCI-E 16x port so I can upgrade to something down the road. It seems the PC will have a #### of a lot of processing power with the Quad Core Duo2 6600. Anyhow here's the specs, could someone give me an honest e…
